Malaysian GP
Well, where to begin with this one. Let's start by saying that was one the strangest F1 races I've ever seen! From start to finish there was always something unlikely happening.
i.e.,
What a start! How did that Benetton get so far out of position on the grid? And how about poor Montoya having to run all the way down pitlane (to start the spare car) after his died on the grid!!
Now about the weather. How about a 5 minute monsoon...only over half the track !! 9 cars off in the first five laps, safety car out until lap 10, traffic jam in the pits, I've not seen anything like it !!
Of course Schuey seemingly cruised to a huge margin of victory, but only after he and Barichello went off at the same time in the same corner! How they never got stuck in the runoff area I don't know, but both continued.
And then what I think most people found interesting was Hakkinen not being fast enough to pass....an Arrows?!? And how about Verstappen there passing a bunch of the big guns into fourth place for most of the race?
So all in all, perhaps this will be the wierdest race of the season, and things will settle down in Brazil. I thought the podium positions were easily predictable, but the rest of the field was a complete suprise !!

Verstappen was quite something, Shuey as usual drove to impress but tht mid field battles were quite something.

I'm with you, Pilot. This is only my second season of F1 viewing, but this race was [i]by far[/i] the most exciting race I've seen. Perhaps the most exciting racing I've seen in any series. I was literally yelling at the screen and clapping as Verstappen managed to hold off Hakinen, R. Shumacher, and Frentzen for lap after lap. The two pass attempts at the 180deg turn onto the pit straight, first by Hakinen, then by Mika and Frentzen together, had me going nuts!

Damn...how about Juas Verstappen. Now, if he can keep Ralph Shumacher, and Mika Hakkinen at bay, in an Arrows...imagine waht he could do as a driver behind the wheel of say a Ferreri, or Williams? Like David Hobbs eluded to, hes had ALOT of bad breaks in F1, and he is a very talented driver, and i think after watching him dice back and forth with Mika and Ralph, in an underdeveloped, underpowered car, really opened some eyes. I hope he can get himself a better drive out of that display. Heck, even Shuey at the press conferance said that Juas was one of the fastest cars out on the wet, and how phenominal he was. That alone says somthing about his driving skill.
I was disappointed for Montoya. What a tough break. I dont think it will be long untill we see podiums out of him.

Kids, that race KILLED! Not since the '95 European GP, with Alesi almost catching Schuey by resetting fastest lap for something like eight laps in a row, have I seen as thrilling an F1 race in this era.
How about Schumacher making the intermediate call? His passes coming up through the field were masterful, and decisive as usual. I couldn't believe how much faster he was than Coulthard. It looked like one of those shows they occasionally run where they pit an F1 car against a hot passenger sedan or something.

it doesent hurt that i am 100% Dutch.
My mom and two sisters are leaving for holland tomorrow, and i called and said buy me as much Jos Verstappen stuff as possible.
Great race, i think it should rain, a little, in every race, just to keep things variable.

As they say the rain is a great equalizer.
He had been complaining all weekend of excessive understeer. In the rain having understeer like that actually helps. You can balance the power (and put down far more power) to help the car corner more neutrally.
This at least engine is at least reliable now, but I don't expect him to be able to much with the car this season, do mostly to this engine. We will hear more from "Jos the Boss" I am sure, however.

It was a good race but as a BMW-Williams fan I was very disapointed at the cards that Montoya was dealt. First his car breaks on the starting line. Then he hits the oil and goes off the track. Ralf did a great job of getting in the points but I can't wait to see Montoya get a good run. We will see him on the podium.

Check out Formula1.com. Barrichello is crying about Schumacher being aggressive in his pass of him as he stormed through the field after the safety car left the grid.
Mind you, I'm sure some of that was frustration after having to sit behind the guy for a minute in the pits, even though that wasn't Barrichello's fault. The crew was expecting Schumacher to come in first.

Three major highlights that I loved about this race:
1 - Schumacher's decision to stay on intermediates. It proved to be a wise one, but Michael also proved that the tires do not make the driver as he cleanly made his climb from 11th to 1st, passing many drivers on full wet setups. Recall also that Barrichello had a pretty easy time making his way up to 2nd, which to me speaks for not only the tires but also the Ferrari setup. Once again, Ferrari has proven their apparent superiority. Which begs the question, will anyone this season be able to compete? Even McLaren seems to be weaker this season than last, although it is still quite early to tell.
2- Verstappen's lengthy battle with a recent world champ. What a great show!! This was the highlight of the race for those of us who like to see the current superpowers of F1 challenged. It makes for a fantastic race, plain and simple, if the same guys are not always battling for the same spots. This, again, demonstrated to me that McLaren may be having some issues with their setup so far this season. It also poses another question: How will the current leaders be challenged with the introduction of traction control?
3 - Rubens Barrichello is finally showing his more aggressive side. After watching him for two seasons, I have always been frustrated with his tendency to lay back and let Schumacher take the reigns for the team. The past few races he has been ignited with a new fire to challenge, especially in passing. Even though he passed my absolute favorite, Ralf Schumacher, and last race Frentzen,who I don't care for,
I was still pleased with the ambition he is exhibiting, and I hope it lasts. This too may be partly because of his typically strong performances in the rain. Maybe now he can help Michael hold up the Ferrari team and possibly elevate it to new heights.
I cannot wait until the next race!

What about qualifying?

I can't help but wonder how come the Ferraris were the only one in intermediates while not even a single team went for intermediates but full wet tires. And strangely the pasce car was out for a loooonnng time. To wait for the track to be dry enuf for the intermediates to work? Hmm... Ferrari is the biggest and riches team in F1... I wonder. The FIA is very biased tword french teams. So i dont really think it would do that for Ferreri.
The FIA made ALOT of exceptions for Peugeot in the WRC. So they do things like that. But i dont think that that had anything to do with it.

They knew that half the track was dry, and if they had dopler radar in teh pits, they would know it was just a small supercell, and that it would pass. So obviously you can be much faster on the dry part fo the course and pass any wet tire, as long as you can keep a reasonable pace through the wet. So i think it was ferreri thinking ahead, rather then the FIA cutting corners for them.

It was a fun race for a while when Verstappen was keeping some of the big dogs at bay. It certainly was a wild race with the Ferarri's both sliding off in the oil, then the storm happening. I certainly wouldn't call this the best race I've seen though. It's pretty clear to me right now that if you're not driving a bright red car that came from Marrenello, you don't have a chance. Those Ferarri's are heads and tails above everybody else right now and this race proved it. I thought for sure when the Ferrari's went off we'd see a good race finally, but no they just came right back and dominated. They didn't just dominate, they outright ruled. Nobody should be able to just bolt right up from 10th and 11th to 1st and 2nd that fast. I know Schuemy is the best driver out there and Ruebens aint half bad either, but come on! This was clearly a case of the cars being that much better than the field. Mikka did get his act together at the end though, setting fastest lap after fastest lap, but it was way too late. I just hope that when traction control comes back, or maybe when the series gets back to Europe and the teams can practice more, more teams can compete. If that happens, I'm looking for Williams to have a good year.

well I really enjoyed the race. I then old Jaus did a wonderful job. But it seems strange to me how he could show so much pace. He is no doubt a talented driver. My favorite driver Frentzen did quite well despite having clutch problems the entire race. I look for Jordan to have another 1999 season and finish well up in the points this year.
Subi Chick, why dont you like Frentzen, I mean what turned you againt the guy. Just curious. I have never heard a bad word about him until now. So you peaked my curiosity!

Make no mistake about it guys, the Arrows has been the fastest in a straight line since last season. It isn't news to the teams, they know how fast the Arrows is. It never did them any good though it seems until this race. All teams have good an bad days, and this was certainly a good showing for the Arrows. Kinda reminds me of a video game where you have to choose between several cars based on their strengths!

Scrappy: When I was very new to F1, and was still getting used to the drivers, all I ever seemed to hear from Frentzen was a lot of bragging about how much better he could be if he only had a better car. Or how he was really one of the unsung heros of F1 and was just as good as Schumi.
I guess we all have our personal peeves and one of mine is people who spend all their time pumping themselves up, especially if it is usually followed or surrounded by putting others down.
I do believe that Frenzten has some potential as a driver, and has shown in the past that he is skilled, but to me a great athlete is a whole package, personality as well as talent.

Is anybody going to Indy F-1 this year? I ordered my tickets a while back. I went last year and had a great time. Also, are their any JV fans out there. He is a very good driver, which he proved in his first two years of F-1.

I'd like to see schumacher go back to bennetton and straighten them back out again. anyone else?
