Good career move or what?

Ford You big dumb idiots.
artkevin 09-09-2004 10:04 PM

Here at Ford we like to get rid of good drivers. Just ask Justin Wilson, Mark Webber and Colin Mcrae.
DetroitWRX 09-09-2004 10:22 PM

Last line has been in talks with Subaru. That would be nice to see him back in blue. Ford is cutting all over seas racing budgets so the WRC might do become like Mitu.
Tensen 09-09-2004 10:29 PM

woah...good for him! now subaru just needs to sign someone like duval (who has been doing pretty well lately, he kicked tail on rally germany) as petters second...i like mikko, but he doesnt produce results...ah hell, throw david higgins into mikkos seat!

Is Burns not going to be back by next season? Originally, I had heard that he woudl be returning for the 2005 season and would be driving a Subaru. Has his health not improved?
Dirt Man 09-11-2004 10:40 AM

I wonder if McRae would be interested in coming back to Ford. Granted his salary would be cut considerably but it puts him back in the WRC.
04RedWRX 09-11-2004 11:52 AM

I just can't understand what Ford's thinking. I've been a Blue Oval guy for a long time and can't make sense of some of their marketing ideas. I read somewhere that they had no plans to bring the AWD Focus to the US, reason was the target market couldn't afford it? Better to sell a handfull of their 100k plus Ford GT's. WTH, have they seen the number of WRX/STI/EVO's being driven by 20 somethings? I don't know, I wish Marco well.
WRXedUSA 09-11-2004 01:18 PM

Markko much??

Met him at the Stockholm airport once. Not so friendly. I wish Ford could have seen him and Francois as a outlet for pushing thier brand. Those RS Focuses in blue over the pond are SIIICK!!

I feel Ford will withdraw this next year sadly. :(

I just don't want the SRT-USA Mitsubishi-USA Prorally thing to go on in WRC.

I hope Skoda is bouyed by thier recent success and Suzuki comes along with "Teh Monster" leading he charge for the APRC.
Butt Dyno 09-11-2004 01:24 PM

Maybe Dodge will throw together an AWD SRT4 for the WRC :)

Eh. There needs to be more manufacturers. Maybe Toyota could come back *shrug*

great job ford

time to start cheering for peugeot crap
WRXedUSA 09-13-2004 09:07 PM

Speed must have ESP or be completely RETARDED.

Because I've been slutting around the rally news websites and have yet to see something official.
Chaste Automotive 09-13-2004 10:07 PM

From my inside sources there will not be a Ford WRC team next year. Richard Burns will never drive for Subaru, in fact he can barely make it out to the store right now. Very sad.
Bort 09-13-2004 11:07 PM

At least with Peugeot the back-up shift lever isn't shared with the handbrake like in the Focus. I bet that really pissed off Markko.

Or.. keep Mikko and get a 3rd driver. THAT is what is hurting Subaru's manufacturer championship points, not a rookie driver.

I thought only 2 drivers could score manufactures points?

You should never say never. Richard is out of hospital and continuing to recover, he lost a lot of weight at first that left him bed bound, but he is building his strength up as he continues his treatment at home.

I think its almost certain Ford will withdraw from the WRC, you dont let your top two drivers go and sign no replacements if you are staying as a serious player. WRC is in a poor state right now. :(

I must've missed that Max Mosley brain fart. The only restriction on the drivers, from what I understood, was that the 3rd driver couldn't have won a rally in a previous season.

interesting news

even more interesting is that
wrc.com
rally-live.com
autosport.com

none of them are reporting this... yet...??
seems as tho ' they'd be in the know moreso than nascar-vision

but if it's true... i guess we'll have to wait n see what Ford decides to do.
MarkA 09-14-2004 11:01 PM

The Focus guys have been talking about it since last week: http://www.focaljet.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2416359014 and the article they have posted there sources Autosport/Racer.

So this means most of the WRC rallies will see just 6 factory cars with Skoda's occasional appearances and maybe a return from Mitsu?!?!?

I hope Max Mosley is happy now...
GC84ever 09-15-2004 01:52 AM

The only thing that is for sure is that Duval is released from Ford and he's been talking to Citreon.
mike270 09-16-2004 02:33 AM

I found some more links to the story...not in english but you should be able to translate them. I haven't read them yet....

Sorry for keeping it offtopic, but those words about him continuing to recover really do make me believe that he can pull it off...Let`s just hope he can.
akmotorsports 09-16-2004 05:21 PM

I really really really hope that Markko rejoins Subaru... ok, it helps that I'm of Baltic origin. ;) Lately it seems that Ford has even given up on THIS season let alone next. This from a team that celebrated race no. 100 with a 1-2 finish in Mexico. Shame...
XtianLA 09-16-2004 05:58 PM

Wow, that's crazy. I can't believe that. I'll agree with you guys though. It would be awesome to see Markko on our side.
