McRae signed with Citroen
A reliable source just informed me that McRae signed a contract with Citroen. He said he didn't know any details yet and the duration of the contract was not specified.

I heard about it too.................on www.rallyforum.com

Some usually reliable sources from WRC.com were talking about it.

I can't access WRC.com at work (firewall  ) but all I could find was this dated today:

Eh, good and bad news. Good to see McRae getting into a better car. But bad because it's really just like having more Peugeots(let's not kid ourselves) on the podium.

acording to autosport he hasnt signed a deal yet, but ford have oficially released him for next year and will not renew his contract.

It's bound to be citroen now, Subaru cant afford what he wants.

sorry but i dont WANT McCrash back with Subaru...
bye... have fun Colin... :)
hope the Citro guys are ready to "shell out" for a new shell every other rally.....
Colin is fast.. always has been... but he wins - or destroys the car
not much in between that... next year will be interesting tho!
Hope SWRT sorts out all of the little bugs w/the car so Tommi
can have some fun!!!

So, you're telling me that Colin McRae 3.0 will be out-of-date even before it comes out? ;)

AT E3 I don't think the game even had a Citroen in it! The guys at Codemasters must be swearing up a storm at the moment ;)
I'm still hoping (vainly) he comes back to Subaru... he may crash, but he can still win.

According to the vehicle showcase on the C McRae 3 website, there is a Citroen Xsara and Saxo. I saw no Peugeots, though.
At the beginning of the whole "McRae is leaving Ford" thing, did he not say he would take a pay cut to get in with a good team? Now he wants 5 million GB pounds for the first year? Is that a pay cut?
And why can't Subaru bring in a third driver (McRae or someone like him), they are back with 555, which they were not when they signed Tommi. Petter is locked in for another year (at least, I think) and they are not getting anywhere with just two drivers. I still would like to see Colin in a subaru, more drama = more american viewers (because that is all americans want to see, drama), and more american viewers = more sales.

I'm with Jamie, kind of. Forget Colin. While you're at it, forget Makinen and Mortl too. Keep Solberg, get Markko back, sign a North American (e.g. Ramana Lagemann, Pat Richard) to pump up interest here in advance of a North American WRC round. Put more money into the car, less into the drivers.

It's official, Colin signed a 1 year deal with Citroen at the Paris Motor Show this morning.

Well they're not going to get Markko back. He's Ford's #2 and their rising star. And while they are great drivers, neither Lagemann nor Richard is even close to WRC caliber. Atleast not yet. I dont see how that would pump interest in North America anyways. Probably one out of every 10,000 Americans knows who either of those guys are.

Well that makes me feel pretty special then. ;)
Do you not think having a Canadian or American driver would increase the fan base in those countries?

We won't see WRC in the states for another couple of years. We're just not ready to put up so much money (heard from Kurt Sptizner) as SCCA would most likelly have to shell a lot of money.
It's like soccer and F1, it's growing here, but not nearly as big as in other parts of the world. Not that I care about soccer, just wanted to make a relationship.

Subaru needs to concentrate on "Hollywood" and make him a new star. Also, they need to rehire Juha to "mentor" the youngster Solberg. Nobody has more experience that Juha, I think.
I don't know why they hired Mortl. I think Brucelee would have been a better choice. ;)
Makinen is getting old and slow. He is not going to win much more, I think.

Are you the secret love child of Yuha or something Alex?
Can we not look forward more and hire some decent youngsters rather than looking in the past all the time? There are some very tallented younger drivers out there, lets back them like Subaru did with McRae, Burns and now Solberg. They let Marco go, which was a shame.
Petter is nows outdriving Tommi consistently, i think he is well on his way to his first win, if the 2003 WRC works then he will be unstopable. Tommies heart just isnt in it, which is a damn shame, he has looked disinterested for months it seems. Maybe the shunt that put his co-driver out has had an effect on him more than we realise?

He probably couldn't get the stains out of his suit after Corsica last year! I am sure that his little roll this year didn't help either.
I think once "Hollywood" Solberg starts getting the wins, they will come quite a bit more frequent for him. He has the looks, personality and talent to be a future superstar of WRC. I just hope Subaru can hold onto him.

I dont think Makinen is past his prim, its just been a rough year. Monte Carlo went well, nothing else did. At all.
Solberg is definately a keeper. Mortl has yet to impress, but a cheap third driver would be nice. I think more money towards development of the car would be better than another big name driver. Tommi and Petter with a badass car and an okay 3rd driver would work nicely. Is Toshi Arai a viable prospect? Didnt he get a points finish last year?
And i think McRae has kept his cars together pretty well this year.

Tommi's done... I'd say one more year before he retires, unless something magical happens next year. They should have kept Marko, but he's really shined since going over to Ford, he wasn't THAT good at Subaru. Petter's definitely a keeper, though I'm thinking he'll want a little contract renegotiation after this season!
So, in my opinion, fire Mortl and Tommi, give Marko the #2 and get Toshi back. Oh, and stick with the current body-style... that new scoop is terrible ;)
