Mini Torch Light for WRX part 1

Mini Torch Light for WRX
Like the BMW, it comes with a small torch light in the glove box and I find it very useful at times.

I want to get a torch light that is bright but can't seems to find a good one. I search for MagLight 2AA torch but find it not bright enough. I know they got those ultra big torches but find it too big also. I am hoping to put one in my glove box.

I know they have those Tiny LED version but not bright enough for me also. Any other suggestions?

i thought the mini ones from the bmw were just 1aaa mini mag light. if the 2aa light is not bright enough then you might want to look at the tactal flash lights, they run super bright, but there batterys dont last that long.
why do you need such a bright light?

VERY bright, cheap regular light is a Surefire G2 Nitrolon.

LONG lasting, LED light is Lightwave 3000

Inova X5 is a nice LED unit as well.

I find those LED torches and MagLite torches are more focus on the lighted area while the BMW is more spread out.

Well, i guess since I am looking for a torch light, why not get a good one.

Brightstar who makes HID kits is coming out with a HID flashlight. Importhookup has them.com . I think it was $250.

Unabomber: Man that Surefire looks sweet! I live Birmingham and there is a supply company here that sells these to the US Army and Metro Police forces around the country. I'm going downtown tomorrow to pick one up!

I have found that having a waterproof(and explosion proof) flashlight can save your life. If it won't work when submerged or wet, it is worthless, IMO.
lionken07 04-14-2004 08:37 PM

anything made by surefire is pretty decent.

Most of them overpriced but if your going for a glovebox light get a surefire L4. Superbright LED light!
Foxy 04-14-2004 09:48 PM

Surefire makes awesome flashlights. They may seem expensive, but when put into the context of what they are used for mainly (soldiers needing them in combat, policemen, etc), they are worth every penny.

I have an iNova X5 sitting in my glovebox right now, and have a Surefire that I carry on my person.

yup, you just jumped a few more notches up on the dork-o-meter :D

I keep a Lightwave 3000 in my glovebox. It has come in handy many times and the batteries last forever (well, almost). Water resistant, shock proof and the LEDs will never burn out like the bulbs in Mag-Lites do just when you need them most.

To prove that I am the biggest Flashlight dork here (except maybe for Skyline) here the information you seek, from the experts...

My personal favorite would either be the UK 4AA eLED if you like staying simple with batteries, or the Streamlight TwinTask 2L if you are willing to order special CR123a batteries online. At $6+ each for the 123 cells in the store and $1 online, it makes a huge difference.

So any recommendations on where to buy some of this stuff? I found the SL TT 2L here...

http://store.productwizard.biz/sttw2lili.html

for $29.95 including a set of batteries.

Go to your nearest VW dealer and get the light that charges in the cig lighter (the touareg comes with one) they are pricey but amazing, i got one for xmas for my car and it works beautifully! Bright as anything and nice and small...never change the batteries either!

That is as good a price as you will find.
www.brightguy.com has tons of lights. The UK 4AA eLED is there for only $20 including 4 Duracell AAs.
The SL TT 2L is a great versital light. If you think you will use it often, make sure to price batteries first.

Some sites that have reviews of lots of lights...

Dale
(has a Surefire L4 with him all the time)

If you want the runtime or brightness charts, I know where those are too. ;)
IronMonkeyL255 04-15-2004 09:48 PM

I got a 2C battery flashlight that had 6 LEDs and a xenon bulb.

It has 3 modes of lighting: 3 LEDs, 6LEDs, and Xenon bulb.

It works well for what I ask of it, the LEDs last forever, it has a sturdy aluminum casing (About as strong as a mag-light if not stronger), and it was only about $30.
dbrier 04-16-2004 08:32 AM

Are you sure it doesn't take 3C batteries?

I have one and I love it.
DetroitWRX 04-16-2004 10:13 AM

OK dork question and I might be jacking the post. What about those shake type no battery flashlights at like Sharper image and stuff? I would like a small one that I could have in the car and not worry about batteries. I have had the batteries be dead when I need it to many times.
dcoty 04-16-2004 03:47 PM

dbrier....that is a sweet light, id would have gotten one if i didnt have the VW cig lighter LED light.
Dan:)

Don't forget about temperature and long term storage. If you live in a moderate climate you should not have any problems with cold but in very cold climates there is a possibility that your light won't work when the temp. drops. The problem with long term storage is battery failure both in discharge and rupture. The solution is to make sure you get a light that uses or will accept lithium batteries. They are expensive but work in long term storage and extreme weather.

dbrier 04-16-2004 10:29 PM

What pepper said.
That means lights that take AA or CR123.
Energizer makes a 1.5V (actually 1.7V but close enough) that work great. They are lighter and have more power than alkaline AA batteries. They can be had for about $2.00 online. You can get the CR123 3V battery online for about $1.00 each.
Try The Battery Station for either.
I would also reccomend a good LED model, because you will be able to depend on the bulb and not worry about it buring out like and incandesant. They are also much more shock resistant.

The shake up lights are more a novelty and don't put out a ton of light.
MB38 04-16-2004 11:01 PM

Check www.surefire.com for great prices on CR123s.
Mulder 04-16-2004 11:24 PM

The standard alkaline batteries in my Lightwave lasted a very long time, even through the winter. Of course it is a good idea to check them once in a while but I used the light often enough to know they were still good.
Another advantage of LEDs over bulbs is they will continue to put out usable light with near-dead batteries although the brightness will drop off. This, plus the lower current drain, makes the effective battery life a lot longer than for a bulb flashlight.

You're right. It is 3Cs.

I got the titanium coating.

My dad's company bought him one for use while he is stationed in Alaska, and I thought his was so nifty I got my own.
