It'll be nice if all goes through and he does drive for Subaru. I have the Michelin Peugeot 206 that he drove in a 1/18 die-cast by SunStar.

thanks for actually writing a responce. its nice to see people who appreciate excellence when it comes to racing in any genre. yeah, i think the american population is sleeping on this kid. he will be no doubt be the greatest motorcyclist of all time. looks like he's chosing subaru over the ferrari F1, nice!

Im a Moto GP fan as well as WRC, F1, and GT cars, it would be cool to see Rossi in a Prodrive STI. Time will tell to see if he'll switch, if the package is right that is. If SWRT/Prodrive has greater reliability (like in 1999-2003) and the $$,$$$,$$$.$$...

That is great news. I hope he keeps Soobe in the headlines for all the right reasons

That article is dated late July... The Speed commentators during Moto GP Maylaysia talked about Rossi going to F1 next year as a development driver (but I forget who with); they talked as if it were a done deal.

Interesting... Who knows, he's got enough talent, and smarts, he might be able to cover both!

Has he ever won a rally?
Has he ever won a major open wheel car race?
I know he's the best throttle twister out there, but I have not heard much about him in a car except for what he did as a kid.

I think he's going to Ferrari. This spy pic shows he's really adjusting well to the F2005

That article is confusing. They call the Banbury complex "Subaru/Prodrive Factory" and they refer to "Subaru" as making the call on whether he drives or not.
Who's "Subaru"? Prodrive or SWRT??
Bunk.

Why are they importing more drivers at the same time that there are less and less WRC teams to drive for? Right now it should be easy to find experienced WRC drivers so why take bets on kids who are fast in other motorsports? Oh ya, marketing... same reason Travis Pastrana is going to go further in rally (on someone else's buck) than Pat Richard, even though Pat is quicker and more experienced.

didn't he win during the Internaltional Race of Champions the other year? in an open wheel off road buggy.
the kid has some serious talent. I hope he comes to 4wheel racing. it would add a nice dash of color to any discipline that he joins.
RR :D

i will bet 100 bucks right now that if rossi was to pick up wrc after moto gp that he would win the championship with in 2 years. if anyone read the article in sport cylce a couple months back and remembers how he sets his bikes up, if he did that for the cars and kept the same formula hands down he would win!
| erich_sc | 10-06-2005 01:40 AM |
It's an amazing time for racing era's. Schumi and Rossi have been absolutely inspiring. I'm not so convinced that Valentino could pick up rallying at the world class level in 2 years and become champion. Those drivers have been rallying for years. What Rossi will not lack is the incredible amount of focus and work ethic it takes to be a champion. Could he pull it off? Possibly... Could Solberg or Schumacher win MotoGP championships? No chance.
| Lookitsblue | 10-06-2005 02:22 AM |
Rossi doesn't rally very well, f1 and motogp are is two strong points.
| mykrrrr | 10-06-2005 03:41 AM |
Vale is just having fun. I'm sure rally to him is just like us going to a rallycross and going..."sure I'll give it a try."
He's more likely to go into F1 after he gets bored w/MotoGP than WRC. He's have the most colourful driving suits in either genre of 4 wheel racing.
With time/experience, he'll rally better but remember RallyGB a few years ago when he was in either the Corolla or 206? He crashed out within the first couple stages.
I'm still a Rossi fan so I say Go Vale Go!!! :D

So after reading his bio on his fan site, career results on several sites, and sifting through the tons of crap about how he's the best biker to ever live, I have found nothing about him doing anything special in a car. I just don't think he would have a shot at being competitive in rally or F1 on a serious level. Maybe he could drive a Jordan better than their current drivers, but that's not saying much.

That article doesn't say anything about him SWITCHING to rally. He just wants to have fun at one event that isn't even a WRC event. He has time to kill and money to burn, so why not run a newish Sube in a rally at home.

Another rumor I heard over the weekend is Vale signed a testing contract with Ferrari for 06 or 07. I just heard it in passing watching the WSBK race.

Thanks... actually found it on the Ducati boards, but I LOL'd when I saw it too :)
In all seriousness, I think it's hard to tell what's true and what's not. But, I've seen two things: In Rossi's first rally drive, he crashed. In Rossi's first Ferrari test, he was under 2 seconds of Schuey's lap record at Fiorano. Todt said all he really needs to work on is his braking. That in addition to the Italian/Italian combination, it seems more likely that he'd go to F1. Maybe he'd rather go to rally, but he would probably not be able to compete at the pinnicle of the sport, and I think that's where he's used to being.
I really like Rossi... he's a blast to watch ride and he seems a lot more fun loving and down to earth than most racers at that level... I think he's exactly what F1 needs right now.

I think ROSSI will do well wherever he goes.
I am kind of peeved by those who think that he shouldn't compete on a world class ring because he doesn't have as much experience as others. I don't think Subaru or Ferrari would offer him a sponsorship or a seat at their top racing venue if he didn't have any skills whatsoever with four-wheel vehicle.
