My video footage from Laguna Seca 11/30/04 part 1

V8VENOM 12-04-2004 09:26 PM

My video footage from Laguna Seca 11/30/04
Back from Laguna Seca, struggled with Sound restrictions all day -- blacks flags and lots of lifting off the throttle from Turn 5 to Turn 6 (that is where the sound station is located).

My video footage: http://www.gofastpilots.com/LSIR_video_113004.htm

It has been 2-3 years since I ran Laguna Seca, so I was a little rusty first few sessions -- that and having to swap out my muffler for the stock one and STILL being over the 92 db sound limit. Ugh!

I snagged a few.

Very nice driving, but what do I know :)

Alright some more awsome race video's. Thanks for sharing!

Any suggestion for novice drives getting into the game, like books, racing schools, websites, etc.

Ah, that's the problem. No pictures are showing up for me, not even a "broken image" box.
Subystud 12-05-2004 10:46 AM

It's alittle slower irl than in GT3...
HoRo1 12-05-2004 10:55 AM

I liked them. I don't like the people who buy houses overlooking a race track and then bitch about the noise.

I go to Laguna with AROSC and we get 1 (or is it 2?) black flag sound warnings and then any repeat offenders get booted.
I liked them. I don't like the people who buy houses overlooking a race track and then bitch about the noise.
Seriously.. I"d be happy to trade houses and deal with the noise :)

V8: what kind of camera were you using? The image quality seems pretty good, and you can hear more engine than wind, which is really nice.

Yeah, I think the noise limit they have is TOO low. I remeber when Gary S. had his first race there in the WRX. He had to put a bunch of crap on the end of the exhaust to get the noise down and point the exhaust away from SC station. I voiced it before. If your going to move next too a track. Deal with it. As for me, I would love too hear that kind of noise. BTW, at the big races like ALMS. They lift the limit. I guess money talks and BS walks.
V8VENOM 12-05-2004 12:17 PM

If you don't see the images, they you need to change the settings in your browser -- pretty sure this is an SP2 issue.

What I don't understand about the sound limit is that the state/fed already have an established limit of 98 db, so how can a county (Monterey) establish a lower 92 db limit and do it legally? This has a lot of implications such as dealer selling factory stock cars that pass state/fed regulations but not Monterey county regulations. There are some obvious unfair practices being used in Monterey county and I'm pretty sure if someone has the money to get lawyers involved, they could successfully sue the county and at least force them up to State/Fed limit of 98 db.

Oh and yes, you can buy an unlimited testing day for a team for $12,500 per team per day. So, yes, this does SMELL bad and I don't think Monterey county would stand a chance keeping 92 db limit if taken to court.

I'm surprised you can hear engine as I had to put the stock muffler on. Camera is from www.helmetcamera.com -- base unit is in the glove box with a remote LANC switch mounted by my guage cluster -- all powered from car's battery. Mic is a cheap mono unit clipped to one of the dash air vents.

Corking up my exhaust was hurting my performance a little.

what was your best lap?
V8VENOM 12-05-2004 07:04 PM

Best lap, don't really know other than estimate based on video footage -- there was no scoring/timing at the event so my transponder wasn't registered. But with a stock muffler, lifting between T5 and T6 -- I was in the 1:45 - 1:46 range (based on video footage) -- so I'm pretty sure the car is easily capable of 1:42 range, maybe a 1:41 driving deeper into T2 and getting on the throttle sooner out of the cork screw.

sorry to hear about the exaust nazi's

lets see them black flag a ferrari 360 stradle for having a loud exaust. thats bs
HoRo1 12-05-2004 10:08 PM

I was black-flagged there last year because of noisy wheel bearings! Not because they were too noisy, but it was a vehicle safety issue. I drove back to LA :(

Anyway, some CAI are very noisy - maybe that was what put you over the top.

who in their right mind buys a house RIGHT NEXT TO A GODDAMN TRACK and bitch about noise anyway?

:furious:
V8VENOM 12-06-2004 06:58 PM

Apparently people with large quantities of Cash, heavy influence with the Monterey County (very possibly someone on the county supervisors board living in one of those very nice homes right next to the race track), and a dislike of race cars and race tracks. This is purely a $$$ situation -- if you saw the size of the homes I'm talking about, you'll understand.

But the fact a race team can buy unlimited sound for $12,500/day seems pretty fishy to me -- sorta smells of corruption.
Foxy 12-06-2004 09:23 PM

Hey, I finally was able to download the videos. Very nice!

I was watching the video and my girlfriend looked over and said, "hey, that's that track that I hate on Gran Turismo!"

About the noise nazis: In San Diego, there's a lot of rich people who bought houses right by Miramar Naval Air Station, and then promptly began complaining about the helicopters and jets flying overhead. I don't know what they were expecting, but it goes to show that people are stupid.

what, you folks didn't wanna drop $12,500?? ;)

Funny you mention that, I was at LS about 2 years ago with the Tracquest group, which consists of mainly porches and ferraris. The guys with the modified exhausts were po'd and quite a few were black flagged. So although it sucks, it sucks for all.
