Need Opinions on Windshield Decal
1 Attachment(s)
I have a blue 02 WRX sedan with a spoiler, and the black rocker panel. I have painted the OEM rims gold. here are some pics:
click here for pics of my car
Anyway, I am trying to decide whether to use a white on black SUBARU front/rear window decals or a yellow on blue windshield banners. Any opinions?
Also, I plan to get mudflaps soon and thought that black flaps with small white SUBARU logos on them would look cool with the white on black window decals. Then again, I have also seen blue mudflaps with yellow decals on them. Which do you think would look better. I generally take the approach that "less is more" (i.e., the black/white combo). However, the blue/yellow combo would look more rally inspired and may go well with my gold rims.
What do you guys think?
JC
Here is the black/white option:

When I bought my WRX there was another silver one that had a matching silver windshield banner. Looked OK I guess, but I'm not really into windshield banners. If the blue in the banner matched the blue in your paint, then I'd say the blue/yellow would look better...especially with the gold wheels.

It's not exactly my style ...
JC,
I subscribe to the "less is better" philosophy where automotive styling is concerned (I like clean but well-laid-out lines and subtle additions to my vehicles). We each have our own tastes though and that is very personal. With that said, if I "had" to choose one or the other I would probably prefer the yellow on blue effects to minimize the contrast between the additions and the color of the car and wheels. Make sure to post pics of what it looks like when you are done.
Regards,
- Marshall

How about nothing...we all know what kind of car it is

I would recommend going with just a black vinyl strip across. I have the tire rack logo on mine but that is because I have to :)
It really helps out to "darken" the inside of car, even though its a pretty small strip.

I'd say go with the blue/yellow if you going to do one with writing on it. It would be nice if you could just tape it up to the window before buying one to see if you like it. I just have a blank tint strip on my window and I like it a lot, but if you want to make more of a statement then go with the lettering. The "Subaru" logo is probably better than any other wording you could find out there.

i say go with the blue/yellow banner and mudflaps. that would look sweet.

Less IS more!
Yeah, subtle is cool. But gold rims isn't exactly subtle, now is it? I went with the WRB banner with black lettering. If I had to do it over, I would probably go with a black banner and blue lettering so that the black windshield molding doesn't stand out as much, but hey...:alien:***

Thanks guys for all of the opinions!! I really apreciate the feedback. I can see that most of you think that the blue/yellow combination is cool. I have also sourced rally blue mudflaps at: www.lachutesubaru.com . I may go with the yellow letters on blue banner. The word SUBARU across the top of the front windshield and the word IMPREZA across the rear. Then, on the back of my blue mudflaps, I'd go with small yellow "swoosh" logos. I think it will look really cool. I want the car to have an "off-road" look but I think the whole rally decal set is just a bit too overpowering for a daily driver. An before you flame - YES, I do go play in the dirt occasionally. My rocker panels (sideskirts) are proof of that!! I've actually gotten pretty good at drifting IMHO. :D

Custom job from my buddy Dane (yes the same Dane who caused a ruckus a year or so ago). Don't know what retail would be as he spnsors my graphics (when the car is actually in good enough shape to race ;) ).

Lachute Subaru is the BEST! They always have things in stock, no matter what it is (I've gotten a tour of their stock room). I just had a 2.5 n/a build up with all the goodies there and let me say the work and products these guys sell is the beyond the best! Their shipping is the best i have ever dealt with too, quick and on time.

I don't have a picture of the black banner that you're looking for, but here's a blue one on my car....the fitment was kinda crappy but you'll get the idea.
| Ugly | 09-27-2002 02:04 AM |
Personally i wouldn't put it on unless Subaru 'paid' me to drive the car for them.
But if I were to choose one it would be the blue/yellow one.

Why not? I'm actually quite proud that I drive a Subaru and displaying that would be cool. Plus, I want the car to look off-roadish without going overkill with the decals. Also, some guys choose to paste their car with aftermarket parts manufacturers logos (this obviously gives a very streetable look to the car). So why not the factory vehicle logo?

That would be yellow blue, and i put the huge freakin banner on the front cuz i debadged my rear and don't want to be confused with an echo or neon ;)

I'm going to go against you all since you're wrong.:D j/k Anyway, I'd go for the black because it would blend better with some tinted windows. Much less noticeable. How about clear with just the white, blue, or yellow "Subaru"? I would do clear with blue or black with white.
BOY- that Pug 206 looks out of place with those other cars around.

thats an interesting idea... perhaps blue letters with no background. combine that with black mudflaps and blue swoosh logos on the back of the flaps. i may go that way... thanks for the idea!! i'll have to ponder it for a bit though. i'm going to order the decals next week so i'll have to decide soon!

since you asked for opinions...
when was the last time someone came up to you and said, "nice XXXXXX"...
where XXXXXX is some other car company besides subaru?
if you start getting a bunch of those, then MAYBE...

clear background is less intrusive for outward visibility. Nothing worse than not being able to see the stoplight from some tape that you CHOSE to put on the car.

I know what you'r saying man, however...
It's the whole free advertising thing. If the company gave me a killer deal or I was sponsered then I would put their stickers on my car. That's just me though.

I do appreciate the opinions and it has given me some things to think about. however, i don't want to add the decals because i want to be noticed or because i'm afraid others won't recognize it as a subaru. i simply wanted an off-road/rally look to the car for ME, not anybody else. i want to feel more inspired when running up a deserted back road by myself at 80 km/hr. i really don't care much about what the average joe thinks about the car to be honest. I just really think a rally look is very cool and will make me even more in love with my baby. also, I want it to look rally-inspired without being an eyesore. now, i could go with the whole rally package but frankly, its just the opposite, it would be too noticeable. like i said, less is more but the car still doesn't have the rally-car atmosphere about it just yet. i thought the minor additions i am contemplating would be just the right touch. plus, i'm on a budget. :( all i had left to decide when i wrote this thread was blue/yellow or black/white. seems to me that most prefer the blue/yellow combo or nothiing at all. that is ok because it falls right in with my rally look objectives. :D thanks for the opinions everyone!!

you make an interesting point though. perhaps i could talk them into to free oil changes or tire rotations or something. hmmmm, the i would have a "reason" to wear the decals. that would be a win-win situation for me!! :D
