Now THIS is an auto-x!!
OK, so it's not a Subaru, but check out this E30 M3 on Goodyear slicks. The damn course goes on forever, and the car is absolutely nasty!

holy cow, too bad about the DNF, he went through the slalom at the 2:31 mark on the wrong side

I was looking at that too, but I think their pointer cones are on the other side of the object cones. They dont point at the base of the object cone, they point away from it. It's weird looking to me, but after re-watching it, it looks like a clean run.
Draken 02-24-2007 12:37 PM

don't assume that Germans mark their courses following SCCA standards. I ran a quick little event back in '97 when I was over their, and they don't use pointer cones quite the same way.

That thing's nutty! I've seen lots of cars 3 wheeling, but 2 wheeling. Impressive!!!
cooleyjb 02-24-2007 01:53 PM

That car is pretty sweet. Although I have to guess that with the full cage it's probably a car that's setup for roadracing. I doubt this guy DNF'd. He was never very close to the cones for much of the course.

Nice course too. Early in the video you can see how the use different ways of marking the course with leaners.
MattDell 02-24-2007 02:59 PM

That car is just.... wicked!
leecea 02-24-2007 03:10 PM

I wonder how fast he was going. Seemed to be in third gear at pretty high rpm in one spot.
WRXedUSA 02-24-2007 03:49 PM

Bitburg?
Jaxx 02-24-2007 03:54 PM

i have seen a 3 wheels lifted on a civic si w/710s.. of course the 40mpg tail wind helped
Kostamojen 02-24-2007 04:26 PM

Holy ****, now I REALLY want an E30

And man, that was what a 2 minute course and a couple miles long? SHEESH!
ratt_finkel 02-24-2007 04:28 PM

pssh, the RS could take him, lol.
Ralliart4 02-24-2007 04:42 PM

I may be a tarmac rallysprint... if its an autox or dexterity it looks way way too fast to be legal.
Homemade WRX 02-24-2007 04:47 PM

I like it....also makes me regret getting a subie instead of an e30 m3
mav1c 02-24-2007 05:05 PM

That was friggin awesome. That car was so stiff. And that course was so fast.
mxboy15u 02-24-2007 06:42 PM

Wow...lifting 2 tires like that. He could flip his car over if he tried!
ToddStratton 02-25-2007 05:34 PM

It probably is Bitburg...but it looks different than when I did one of their "slalom" events (as they call it here) there. I've seen cars like this practicing at Sembach too. The courses are generally pretty long, many times you repeat sections and the speeds are higher than autox.

sweet love the e30
RainMaker 02-25-2007 09:04 PM

Have you guys seen Vic Sias or Bob Tunnell run here in the US SCCA AutoX? I appreciate the stripped race car e30, but Bob and Vic are tearing it up at probably a higher capability than that with more restrictions (both use a E36 M3 I think).
zzyzx 02-25-2007 10:12 PM

I can attest to two things.

Driving an E30 M3 w/a fully built motor is a blast. An incredible chassis.

Goodyear racing slicks are pretty impressive. Ran them on my RS and could put it up on two wheels at will - on the throttle in a turn nonetheless.
Chiketkd 02-25-2007 10:14 PM

That was wicked!!!! Damn!

What's illegal here in the states is probably perfectly acceptable in Deutchland.

Sorta like frontal female nudity on television.

Back to the E30...BEST M3 evAr.

hahahah, "Beemers" are what bmw folks call their bmw MOTORCYCLES! "Bimmers" are cars. the e30 is a "Bimmer".
TubeDriver 02-26-2007 01:10 PM

If we had autoX like that around hee, I would never have transitioned form autoX to track.;)

I have never seen a E30 pull that hard. Amazing.

im simply stunned right now, anyone selling an e30 m3? :-)
jblaine 02-26-2007 02:28 PM

That's not an autocross, that's a small road course made with cones ;)

Makes me miss the New England SHO club's events at Ft. Devens : 8 runs, ~1:30 course times, 5 general car classes
