Nurburgring Video - Hans Stuck
A friend just sent me a link to Hans Stuck doing a qualifying lap of the full course in a BMW M3 GTR V8 - http://www.specmiatavideos.com/other_videos.htm. Caution: it is around a 50mb download. The friend who sent the link got to test drive the car 3 years ago and did a writeup for the BMW Car Club of America.

You might want to watch John Felstead's videos first to see how incredibly quick John is in his STi. The thread is Video lap of the Nurburgring, STi5 TypeRA Style Look for post #731 for the video links.

Speak for yourself! I haven't seen it!

Kwak, Thanks for the post. It must be awesome to drive that course in a machine like that (I would settle to go on the N-ring with a VW Vanagon!)
gargleblaster 02-16-2005 03:02 PM

Thanks for the Stuck link. He has quite a nice save there at the second Carousel curve (don't recall the German name at the moment).

Still downloading JF's vids... :)
kwak 02-16-2005 03:50 PM

I just tried a search and could not find where it has been posted before. So if you've seen it before, apologies -- please move along, nothing new to see here.

That's the "Kleines Karussel". There is a nice track map with racing lines at http://www.toxo.de/ring/nordschleife/nurbcgi.html.
johnfelstead 02-16-2005 07:38 PM

which means mini Karussel.

Thats an awesome piece of driving, most impresive is the off line corner entry speed under braking. That car is very similar to the car i helped in the pits on at this years 24hr race, the motorsport ABS braking systems are incredible.

My mouth feels like I've been licking batteries. That was nuts! I think I'll stick with tuning.

LOL was that a volvo station wagon wiped out at about 6:15????
kwak 02-16-2005 09:35 PM

Hans Stuck's pace in that car is incredible.

If you haven't heard of John's DVD, check the thread On Track Nurburgring DVD - STi at the Nurburgring. Not affiliated, just a satisfied customer.

I've got my copy of John's 'ring DVD. Great stuff!
cooleyjb 02-16-2005 09:58 PM

Man those high speed corners scared me even on the computer

Yet again another reason I love Hans Stuck. I'd rather see him in one of the old quattros or paired up with Hurley Haywood in an enduro race in a 911.

702 MB
kwak 02-17-2005 12:07 PM

Too many hours to download!
gargleblaster 02-17-2005 12:39 PM

only ~50 minutes @ 250KB/sec... Broadband is your friend. ;)
Patrick L 02-17-2005 01:14 PM

370k/sec here on cable
56k sucks
Apisatrox 02-17-2005 01:35 PM

That porsche vid was amazing. I once he starts having go back through traffic - just plain crazy.....
Penguinking 02-17-2005 02:45 PM

40min at 350k/s here :D
johnfelstead 02-17-2005 03:51 PM

Well worth the download time, thats seriously quick. Nice to see the art of overtaking is still alive and kicking at the nurburgring. :D

Thats this years 24hr race by the looks of it, i was working on the car 12 rows back on the grid, an M3GTR, there were 110 rows of cars at the start! :D 220 cars started that race! Because of the number of cars they start the race with 3 rolling starts using 3 pace cars.

The guys i was helping finished 15th overall, 2nd in class, Altzen's car stopped after 118 laps.
Penguinking 02-17-2005 10:29 PM

how fast was Alzens car going compared to the M3? when you saw the porsche go past some older bmws it looked like they were standing still!
johnfelstead 02-18-2005 07:22 AM

You can see the lap times for both cars if you follow the links below. The race was changing from wet/dry/wet a lot of the time, which is why the lap times are up and down.

Entering the Karussel with a works Opel DTM car behind, the Opel team were in the next pits to us, they were kept busy bolting on new front ends all night.

Sorry to hijack but where do I get the codec to play the Alzen.avi? I get fabulous stereo sound but no picture in Windows Media Player 10.

wait are they saying the lap times for each lap in those links? i thought a prepped car like those would be able to do a lot better than 10 and 12 minute laps. That must include the GP course in addition to the big loop? and i guess they were "taking it easy" since it appears to be a very long race :)
blksubie 03-12-2005 10:17 AM

it dosen't work, or the wrong video or somthing :(

no no the people that run the website is trying to make some money for the bandwith

As long as I remember there's been a picture of Stuck in my folks' garage:

nobody takes it easy if they are going to win. read my post, it explains the lap times going up and down due to rain. The lap includes part of the GP circuit.
