Painted Side Skirts part 1

Painted Side Skirts
I was looking at my plastic side skirts and decided that maybe it's time to get them painted. I'd like to see some pics just to be sure though. I have a Blue Ridge Pearl GC8 but I think any example will be fine. Thank you for your help.

Sorry i dont have a pic yet but i have a 4 door blue ridge pearl GC8 and i got the sides and my V5 spoiler painted to match.. and it makes it look 50 times better than the stock black vinyl. Definitely a good investment if ur looking to dress ur baby up- btw shop around, i got sides and spoiler done for 300 bucks, but the first 2 places i called wanted 900 and 950. get a good deal and its worth it! ill try to post pics soon-
CrazyMike13 12-02-2003 11:47 AM

Sounds great cause I have a V5 painted spoiler too. It would be like seeing them painted on my own car!

Speaking from experience...a GC8 with painted sides looks even better than a WRX with painted sides. IMHO.

Yep. Here's two of the spats:

Sorry the pictures are kindof lame. I'm still working with a 4 year old digital camera. ;)
Layman 12-02-2003 03:34 PM

BTW, I got my skirts and spats painted for $125 - and the quality is very good, IMO.
CrazyMike13 12-02-2003 09:06 PM

It looks great! I'm definitely going to do it. Where did you get the spats from? I definitely don't have those.
Layman 12-02-2003 09:50 PM

Thanks. As far as I'm concerned, the only exterior cosmetic mods I have yet to do is a subtle front lip and JDM tail lights - all in good time, though. ;)

I got the spats here:

$105 plus shipping, I believe. You might as well get them all done at the same time.
aliengti 12-03-2003 02:36 PM

I really need to paint my side skirts, after seeing so many GC's with them painted I'm convinced it would look better.

Those spats look nice.

edit:
I wonder If it still looks good without the spats?
Just the painted skirts...
CrazyMike13 12-03-2003 04:03 PM

Yup. Those need to be painted. Just like mine.:D
aliengti 12-03-2003 05:43 PM

Let me get an estimate first.

Hey, where are you in the Philly area? I got mine painted for ~$130 at the intersections of Route 1 and 202.
aliengti 12-03-2003 11:10 PM

I live in paoli, about 10 minutes from rt1 and 202.
130 is cheap. What's the name of the place you got it done at?
miralibaba 12-04-2003 01:37 AM

i was actually thinking about painting the sideskirts on my 2003 silver WRX also, but I wanted to know is there any special paint or any special mixture or even a special number of coats the guys who are painting the side skirts have to apply, because the sideskirts are plastic (i think), in order to make the paint last longer/ become as durable as the original body paint? Or is there really no difference between painting the stock sideskirts and any other aftermarket sideskirts or the actual car for that matter?

I got the oem ones but you need to use proper paint on the side skirts. They take a lot of abuse so if you dont do it right the paint will flake. Take it to a good paint shop and they should know what to use.
CrazyMike13 12-04-2003 01:05 PM

PoopRskupe, any pics yet?
quentinberg007 12-04-2003 01:39 PM

I have the skirts on my silver RS painted. It looks 10x better, IMO. I also have spats, but I didn't put them on. They will either go on my L or be sold.

Well you're more than welcome to post pics of the RS if you'd like. I'm sure we'd all like to see them.

I think it looks good without the Spats...

Here's mine

Dear God!!
B ee ooo teee fool!
bullet1 that is one of the most sexiest rs's I have ever seen. bravo. You got more pics?
CrazyMike13 12-04-2003 09:24 PM

I very much agree. What did you use to lower it and what exhaust is that? Looks kinda like an STi exhaust. Also, what size are those rims? Just wondering if I can get away with it that low on my 17's and not rub. I would love to see more pics of the car as well!

Concord auto body, if I recall correctly.

bullet1, that's a nice ride. Do you have aftermarket brakes, or are those painted stock calipers?
quentinberg007 12-04-2003 10:34 PM

I would post pics of my car w/ painted skirts if I actually had some pics. I don't have any pics other than when the car was stock.

:(

My car has undergone a little modifying since these pics. Thanks for all the compliments.

The exhaust is Borla. The Springs in that pic are H&R. The brakes are painted stock with Brembo Rotors. Rims in that pic are TSW Xenon 17".

More pics of the car here...

http://208.56.192.50/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album09

I really didn't like The TSW rims, plus they weighed a lofty 24 lbs. But they were on the car when I got it so I didn't complain. I switched to the rota battles last winter and like them a lot better. I have also switched to Eibach Prokit springs, the H&R's drop was nice, but it was a little too low for my taste. The Pro Kit drop is perfect for me. I have some other newer pics if I can find them.

The RS is just my daily driver... my Celica is my real project.

My 2 babies :)

Edit: Newer pics added.
aliengti 12-05-2003 12:29 PM

You got one hello of a nice looking daily driver. The celica looks great as well.

OMG you have navigation!!!!
Is that an option from the factory? Or did you do that yourself??

quentinberg007 12-05-2003 12:48 PM

It is an option from the factory, I believe. My friend, who has a 2000 RS coupe, has it.

It's not navigation - it's just a compass. It's a factory option. You can get it yourself for about $150.
