Paintscratch.com VS Paintworld.com review (pics)

This post is purely based on MY experience with the two companies. A few weeks ago I ordered a can of PSM paint and clearcoat for my sideskirt from Paintscratch.com. I was absolutely pleased with the outcome and decided to purchase more paint for the front lip only this time taking a chance on their competitor Paintworld.com. Here's a simple breakdown of how it went...
PAINTSCRATCH.COM
PROS-
*Excellent color matching
*Provides you with an option if you want your paint with Flex additive.
*The paint and clearcoat is very easy to work with.
*Quick dry paint.
CONS-
*Cost of around $50 shipped for both the paint and clearcoat.
*Took a week for them to mix and another week for ground shipping.
PAINTWORLD.COM
PROS-
*Fast mixing and shipping. It took them 2 days to mix.
*Cost of $30 for both paint and clearcoat.
CONS-
*Paint color is not perfectly matched. A little on the light side.
*They come with some cheap generic clearcoat that's really difficult to work with. It causes a whole lot of orange peel.
*The paint took forever to dry.
*Metalic won't seem to spread evenly no matter how vigorously shake the can and spray evenly.
*No option on their site for Flex Additive. There's a portion on their site that asks for special instructions. I requested that they put flex on the paint and clear but when I recieve the invoice there wasn't any confirmation stating it has flex. Not sure if it does or it doesn't but it does not seem like it does.
CONCLUSION-
Despite the extra $20 cost from paintscratch.com and the long two week wait for paint arrival, I would not think twice about ordering from them. The paint matched much better and the paint flow is a whole lot easier to work with.
Now for pics!

Thanks for the review MFactor. I'm glad I ordered my PSM from www.paintscratch.com for my skirts, it should be here Monday.
Too bad the lip is noticably lighter than the rest of the car. The skirts appear to match perfectly.

Goodluck on painting your sideskirt! I'll most likely end up repainting the front lip again after a few rock chips here and there. At least I'll know where to order all my paint from now on though!

Thanks for the good luck, I'll need it! ;-)
Did you have any problems painting that little rubber strip along the top of the skirt?
If my skirts come out looking halfway as good as yours do I'll be happy! :D

Before purchasing from paintworldinc.com, I exchanged email correspondence with them regarding the mystical "flex additive" for paint. Theirs does not have it, but they assured me that the SEH grey primer for flexible parts that I was using would do the trick just fine.
One year and a daily-driven Minnesota winter later, they have been 100% correct. ZERO chips, cracks, etc.
Thanks for investing the money to do a comparison of both!

Interesting that you said paintworldinc is too light. At first I thought it was too dark, but I was painting my in basement and once I took it out under good lighting it looked fine. I painted an autospeed front bumper trim with it and it seems to match well:

Yeah neither did I! It was my boyfriend's idea after I said, look how good the silver one looks on the silver wrx and just blends in. And then I complained they made black ones too that would look good on a black wrx. :)

did you paint the entire lip and both side skirts? (were they original black fugly color?)
If so, what did you use? what kind of a spray gun.

Drees---had no problems painting the rubber strip at all.
Catass---I don't think that every paint paintworld sells is a mismatch and I want to clearly emphasize to everyone that this is based on my experience. Some people I'm sure have a more than outstanding experience with them. That painted front end license plate hole cover looks awesome by the way.
Vadim---Yes and yes they were the original black fugly color. Here's a link to the DIY sideskirt thread I posted.

MFactor,
I just wanted to say, good job! I love to read up stuff where someone sticks the "man" and does the job himself.
hehe.. I think I might do this too. I got PSM wrx as well with fugly skirts... Just wondering which brand primer did you use?

For the sideskirt...any primer FILLER will do. You just need something that builds up to fill in the texture.

I have used a type of tire shine and that new tech wax on my skirts to get them nicer looking. I cant decide if I ought to prep them any different than just priming them?? I am thinking of doing this when I get a dab of extra cash and ordering maybe like 3 or 4 cans of color and a good number of cans of clear also.
Anyone help me with a color to paint my wheels?? I am looking for a gunmetal or dark gray. I do want them glossy though, so I will clear them. Thanks!!
By the way... Great work man!! Hopefully mine will look that good too. Great write up, also! Very informative

I used tire shine on my sideskirt before too...as long as you wash it with soap thoroughly, you shouldn't have any issues. You only need one can of paint and one can of clear for both sideskirts.

I mean order that much for a few different things around the car.

side skirt DIY paint...
$14 total start to finish:
a. Duplicolor paint: T229 Silver M (glossy)
b. Adhesion promotor (as primer and flex agent coat)
c. can of gloss
Its been over 2 years and no peel or cracks. :p Paint is not
a perfect match but can you tell?

Thanks so much for this comparison!!! I just got my first paint chip yesterday after only 1000 miles and 13 days old WRX when a rock put a sizeable (to me) chip on my new car:diaf:. Hopefully paintscratch.com won't take too long, looks like all the rain is already starting to make it RUST!... or it's just all in my head. I can't stop looking at it .
