Pic Request: 04-05 WRX w/ 02-03 OEM Rear Lip

I really need to see an 04-05 STi with the 02-03 OEM rear lip and diffuser installed on it. The more angles the better. Please specify and and all custom work done to make it mount flush against the bump.

My goal is to make a direct bolt-on install of this 3 peice rear lip combo WITHOUT having to do any custom body work. I really need to see how THIS will look.

But I'm also kind of interested to see how custom fitted install final product looks. I will start with what I found
Note: all of these had extensive custom fitment work.

You have seen someone try to install these straight up and fail. What does it end up looking like?

i've always wanted to know this too, the jdm rear aprons just don't do it for me.

hey thats my car...hahaha...thanks for using it, but anyway..
i was able to fit a 02 rear bumper onto my car with a lot of body work managed to make it fit perfect...and run the OEM rear lip and diffuser...anyone who is willing to try this, i can take some pics and help as much as possible, but it was ALOT of work, takin it on and off the car about 15 times....
my reason for doin so...
1. the 04 aprons look horrible with nothing in the middle
2. the 06 diffuser looks super cheap
3. i knew i would be the first and maybe the only to do so atleast for a while

no that wont work, if u look at the 04 aprons they are more pointy in the middle where it meets the diffuser....

do what jim did and put it onto a bugeye rear bumper. I AM STILL trying to finish the project and I started this in MAY! Basically, right now, at the 2nd bodyshop, they're seamsealing it for me with urethane but are putting the finishing touches on it. For me, my bumper was rendered completely useless since the shop had to drill holes into the bumper to fit the pieces on. The 04+ rear bumper is too round and wide to fit the pieces on, so there's going to be bondoing to make sure the valences line up with the diffuser. NOT WORTH it IMO, just go with what jim did please.

I dont think I would mind the 1/2 inch gaps between the diffuser and the valances if thats what you mean by "line up". But, just an idea as a remedy to the 1/2 inch gaps, couldn't you cut the diffuser right above where the muffler tip would sit and push the 2 peices of the diffuser out to the sides? In theory this would negate the gap between the valances and the diffuser and create a 1 inch gap between the left and right side of the diffuser over the muffler.
Also, would it be possible to use 2-sided tape to mount the valances and diffuser instead of drilling into the bumper?

As for it lining up, since it's 3 pieces, the shop MAY (depending on how good they are) have difficulty lining up all 3 pieces together without drilling the pieces into the rear bumper since the brackets are incorrect.

ive wanted that rear lip ever since i bought my car (nov. 03). i've been wondering wut the hks kansai diffuser with the jdm rear skirts would look like. it'd still be pointy but it would have a real and functional diffuser between it so it might look really good (but extremely pricey). basically i wanna know wut this

I was wondering about that too, but like S1MPSONS said, it's a bit pricey.

If you haven't done a write up already, you should consider doing it. It looks great and I'd be willing to give it a try. Personally, not anytime soon because of classes and $$, but maybe with in the next year or 2.

that's actually what I was considering too. I've already spent $875 on the paint and bondo alone on this stupid rear lip project from 2 different shops, no joke. All the money pretty much went to fixing what the first shop did. :(
ive wanted that rear lip ever since i bought my car (nov. 03). i've been wondering wut the hks kansai diffuser with the jdm rear skirts would look like. it'd still be pointy but it would have a real and functional diffuser between it so it might look really good (but extremely pricey). basically i wanna know wut this

they would give it a paint job with 30 colors and 30 tv's to match and call it a day.

1st of all: Any auto body shop should be able to make a fit with a little custom work. My dilema is that I want to be able to remove the rear lip kit when I get sick of it. Most autoshops, including West Coast Customs, would be hardpressed to to adapt this kit to an 04 rear bumper and make it 100% removable.
2nd of all: West Coast Customs sucks! Why would anyone ever go to them for any reason other than to be able to say, "Look! West coast customs installed _____ on my car"? And it should be noted that if someone said that to me, I would reply, "So what?"

just for the record i got the responses i though i'd get for saying that  anyways, so it should be fairly simple to have the lip custom fit permanantly? i mean, the rear bumper alone is $175 and to paint it would be another $100 maybe. anyways, i think i might look into this and get back to u guys.

Old thread but, I want to bolt up the bugeye rear lip to my rear bumper. I do not care if I can not remove it. I am asking a direct question because I did not understand the first couple of post. What would happen if I bolt it up? Would a two inch gap betweeen the diffuser and spats be everything, or are there some other issues? I do not want to go to a body shop considering it comes painted. Thanks and sorry if the queston was redundant but I did not totally understand the description.

I tried slowing down so I could take another look at the rear lip but you were really snailing along. I couldn't wait any longer. Looked good from what I saw. I def wasn't expecting to see the 04/05 head lights when I pulled up to your front. Good stuff.

I never persued this in the end. Too many nay sayers I suppose. I ended up putting my money into performance (Cobb Stage 2 and thicker F&R sway bars). Good luck.
