Please post a pic of your 04-05 WRX with Tein S Techs

Hey all, I'm interested in getting some S-Techs and would like to see the kind of drop I can expect. That gap in the front wheel well is hurting my eyes :furious: Can someone post a pic of their car with Tein S Techs from the side view?

i would go eibach sport kit, its almost as low as stech but i hear s techs kill shocks and is rough i love my eibachs
| The_Black_WRX | 02-02-2007 06:13 PM |
i have had my S-techs on for 60K+ miles and as you can see i have auto-x
on them it all depends on how th roads are where you live
The S-techs do ride a lil stiff but that is expected
the roads where i live are fairly smooth and i dont do any city driving
I have heard some people say their shocks have blown out fast but i would say they live areound very rough roads

everyone will talk ***** on s-techs, but they great if u cant afford coilovers
ive had mine for like 25-30k miles and theyr fine but uncomfortable compaired to stock.

People "talk ****" because they are junk...they are purely for appearance. If you are looking for any performance at all, look elsewhere.
They ruin struts because they are too low, and the shock is not designed to operate in that range.
If you think that coilovers are some kind of magic way to get your car super low and not ride poorly and handle like crap, you have a LOT of reading to do...the suspension geometry of the Impreza does not respond well to being slammed, thats why the hardcore racers are using things like the ball joint extenders to allow them to lower the car and keep the correct geometry.
That being said, If the most important thing to you is the low "look", and you dont mind the horrible ride and handling...S-techs are perfect. The S does stand for Style after all.

i am slightly disagree with you on 2 things
the ride is not horrible and the handling is not not bad at all
as you can see i have autox'ed on them
but if you are looking for just the drop go with the S-techs
but if you are going to race i would suggest something else
i am saving for my coil overs now and while i do like the look of the car i am just not too happy with them for racing
also like i said in my first post i have been on them for 60K+ miles and am still on the factory struts

do coilovers lower the car as much as the s techs would ??
| The_Black_WRX | 02-02-2007 09:39 PM |
yes they can it all depends on how low you want to adjust them
but i have heard when you bottom out coil overs they will need a rebuild sooner
just do so searching around on they web sites
check out
Tein
Zeal
Cusco
Helix
for a few
have heard good things about the helix DNA coilovers
all the same features as the Tein Flex but about 300-500$ cheaper

I'm pretty sure the whole point of adjustable height coilovers is to lower the car, but retain the supsension's performance....they aren't going to get screwed up if you lower them all the way down, not that you'd even want to in the first place....

i didnt say that it would screw them up
i said they would / might have to be rebuilt sooner
think about it when you lower the coilovers the shock is compressed their by reducing the amount of travel the shock has resulting in permature wear of the shock

if you have any "sporting" intention, then i wouldn't recommend them. but if you're intended purpose is to be low and look good, then they work just fine

No...the purpose of coilovers is to have the ability to fine tune the suspension in ways you cannot with spring/strut combinations. They give you the ability to run different spring rates and lengths - as well as the ability to corner balance the car (I am willing to bet that 80% or more C/O owners on this board have not had their car corner balanced/weighted, and use the spring seat collars for height adjustment only). Also, the dampers that come with most coilovers have a range that they operate within, raising or lowering the car beyond this range or using too stiff of a spring will result in poor performance and decreased damper life.
Coilovers are not magic, they do not compensate for the improper suspension geometry that you get when you lower the car too much. (one way to compensate is with ball joint extensions)
Most owners who stay in the realm of "spirited driving" would be much better served with a good spring/strut combination...it would give them more than enough performance, require less maintaince and be cheaper.
If you are buying coilovers so you can "slam" your car, you are wasting your money...buy S-techs instead.

Just cause you auto-x with them doesn't make them any good:rolleyes: I could auto-x with stock springs and it wouldn't mean a thing...
Basically you can run s-techs and it will drastically reduce you stock strut life. Black wrx might have bad struts and not even know about it. Not saying he doesn't know anything about cars, but the general consensus is that s-techs suck:)
