PR: Updated Boxer4Racing WRX website, new pics, results, news etc..
I finally updated the Boxer4Racing WRX website (http://www.tomhoppe.com)

Got some info up there about our last couple of events and some new pics of the 2004 graphics. The car is stupid fast this season and we have had some good results so far.

We also have a new sponsor aboard! Performance Auto Mall in Chapel Hill, NC (http://www.4performance.com). These guys kick ass and their service department comes highly recommended. They did a great job rebuilding my tranny. I can get into 1st gear at 35mph now with a revmatch.

Here are a few pics of the new 2004 graphics

Tom,

You moved from using KD's to using Azenis?

How come?
mofugga 05-18-2004 08:56 AM

nice clipping of the cone there in the last pic!

The KDs suck for anything other then 100 degree dry weather on concrete. And even then the azenis are slightly better :) They have a lot stiffer sidewall and you make up that little tiny but of lost lateral grip by being able to transition 10 times better.

I hate getting cones with the back wheel :)

What camera did you shoot those with? The WB is a bit off in the 2nd one; I can fix that unless you like that effect. Oh and I think the graphics are growing on me. At first I wasn't sure...now I like them. :)
Midnight_Gold 05-18-2004 09:45 AM

Wow, looking good...

Hmm... Kevin was shooting, right? I like the shots he got...

 Your Danville event summary link is toast, though..

Actually Shawn took those :)

Biggly - here are the links to the original two

Danville is fixed.....

Give me a few and I'll look a little more closely at those in PS.

I *really* need to order CS; I'm only at version 7.0 right now.

Oh, can you give me a link to the last one as well?

edit: Check your PMs... :)
Midnight_Gold 05-18-2004 10:18 AM

Oops... I meant Sanford...

It shows up as Atlanta..

And here I thought NO ONE would ever want to downshift to first, not even in an autocross!

Looking for some more torque in those low speed turns?
Jsortor 05-18-2004 11:27 AM

I'll tell you what, my car doesn't look that pretty. But at least it is not as dirty as KC's

 Did I say that?? I thought it was only KC that said that.....

I like my 4 wheel burnouts out of turnarounds. Also, there was a section where mike king made a lot of money at in atlanta when he could get into 1st gear and we stayed in 2nd in KCs wagon. I just want to have the ability to do that if needed....

*nothing* is as dirty as KCs engine bay ;) when I finally made him flush the oem brake fluid at 60K miles, it came out coke colored.

Hey. I'm with ya on that. I don't autocross but there were times in rallycross that I found myself wheezing in 2nd and had to just jam it into 1st to make some forward progress. Had I downshifted into 1st from the get go, I would have made up a good 3 seconds.

I always found all that left-foot-braking advice a little suspect. I swear it's just guys trying to give advice that sounds good but helps them more than it helps you.

You ran KD's in 245/40/17 right? What size azenis are you running ?

thanks in advance tom!

Yup, I'm now on 225/45/17 azenis and ran the 245/40/17 KDs last year.

Abnormal behavior for a WRX. Not the way the car was made, nor the way it performs. Be prepared to be protested to crack open the tranny. It's not legal to fix a factory defect unless using Subaru tried and true (approved) methods and documention.

Thats why we're using the new superseded part #s in the last rebuilt ;) (and thats why Mike K. can also get into 1st at that speed)

KC,

You need to just blow up your tranny a couple of times and have it rebuilt so you can be on a level playing field with Tom. :D
KC 05-18-2004 04:06 PM

Dang. I'll just have to drive more betterer.

No no no, you got it all wrong man; you need to drive fastAr!
Haven't you learned anything from t3h OT? :alien:
trhoppe 05-18-2004 05:00 PM

I don't think that this will be an issue at any more of the Pros this year. I'm just kinda bragging about it. Honestly, last season, I did not find any national courses where 1st was needed. IMHO it was needed in hotlanta because of the uphill on the left side. I don't think it was needed on the right side......

You drive again like you did last year in Topeka and we're all screwed no matter WHAT car youre driving :)

Tom, I heard that you had a bad experience at last years finale with the KD's. Is that why you bad mouth them so bad? :p

Sounds kinda like raving about a kick ass girlfriend until she dumps you, then saying shes an outright b**ch. :furious:
trhoppe 05-18-2004 05:12 PM

Its actually a case of me trying other tires and realizing "Hey, self, all this crap that I didn't like about my car is now fixed" :p

But yes, I did have a VERY bad experience in them at nationals. They suck in anything other then hot weather. Put them in a "intermediate" situation and you will be MUCH MUCH slower.

Have you ever looked at the engine bays of the top STS Civic's? I swear they all have an inch of grunge on every under-hood part that hasn't been replaced (and a half-inch on the "new" parts!). It seems to be some odd badge honor with those guys...

hmmm....that must mean KC is a closet Honduh lover!

I guess I live in the right place to use the KD's then. Cause the weather guy at lunch was talking about how it was going to dip under a 100 degrees by this weekend and how nice it was going to be. :D

Agreed. If I was in arizona I might just be on the KDs. For those of us who get have events where its 70 or 80 degrees and for those events where it rains ;) the azenis ownz j00.

I dunno man, have you see todd meade's engine bay? He's a "honda" guy in a Type R and you can see yourself in his engine bay paint, its unbelievable.

I wonder just how much weight they could save by washing all of that sludge off, if it's as bad as you report it to be. Not that Civics are heavy to start with, but still every bit counts.
