Who friggin cares? Do you like the way your car will look with painted calipers? I know I like the way MINE looks, and I have drums in the back (which I also painted!)
Does it look like a boy-racer wannabe? Maybe. But its what I LIKE, and since its MY car, I'm the only one I have to impress. If people don't like what I've done, they can suck my exhaust pipe. (Two at a time, I have dual tips) [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img]
This "sport" of ours, or hobbie, whatever, is all about self-expression and making the car the way you wish it came OEM. You want to stop faster (I know I do), put bigger brakes. You want to go faster (I know I do), do an intake & exhaust and or a turbo. Do what you want to your car and stop worrying what other people think.
People may shout stuff to me on the street about how they don't like my car, but I can't hear them over the exhaust & stereo. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img]

I think a lot of times the calipers are powdercoated, and that looks a lot better than paint.

They were still putting drums on the rears of Foresters in 99? Good grief, I thought that Mitsubishi/Dodge were the only people left in the 60's and 70's.

I always sprayed my calipers(/rotors/suspension pieces all at the same time [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]) with high temp flat black paint
but that was on my old car; doing that hid the rust. I'm all for painting your brakes black; I would never paint them red or yellow, just because then I'd have to clean 'em [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
and unless I get a set of Big Reds (porsche turbo brakes), I'm not gonna worry too much about this car
I'm more worried about getting all the gold trim off [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

Well, sorry to say subiegal.....you're wrong.
I'm not one of these people that hops on the bandwagon and does what everyone else does. I just wanted to SEE what everyone thought......this will in no way influence my opinion.
If I wanted people to tell me what to do I'd say, "Should I paint my calipers?" [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img]

I have to agree with Subie Gal.
If you have to ask, you'll never really know, cause everyone has a different opinion.
Personally I think it looks really cool, unless you have some nasty rusted out brake disks, then it just looks tacky.
If you do something to your car based on what others think you should do, then who's car is it really? Make a descision and stick by your guns.

Poll: Is painting your calipers ricey?
Personally I don't feel like painting them is ricey (don't start with the rice crap, enough crying over that). Of course I'd rather have a set of big Brembos all the way around that were already painted.
I think that as long as you do a good job (no overspray, no missed spots, high quality paint) it just looks sharp.
This may not be much of a poll since I used the dread *R* word. Guess I'll know if it gets locked......oh well [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif[/img]

i think it looks really trick as long as you pick a tasteful color and actually take the time, like you said, to avoid overspray and make it look good.
| ibis | 04-29-2001 12:59 AM |
I think it looks good. I was thinking of doing mine in black satin. I think it would look nice, and I hear the right paint will protect from corrosion. I just dont know whick paint that would be.
Now if you were to paint the oem calipers yellow or red or whatever, and put a Brembo sticker on there, I think some people would have issues with that [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
I say, go ahead and do it, I will when I get off my lazy butt.

I think it's rice because it does nothing except make your car look nice, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't do it. I'd do it, but I don't have the time or know how to do it right now. Go for it!
| Langit | 04-29-2001 05:04 AM |
I think 'makes your car looks nice' is doing something [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]...that's why I keep my car clean ..
IMO painting caliper, painting grill..for me are all okay although I've never done it in this lifetime I probably would someday...and I never considered them rice..

I'm gonna say no, I painted my calipers and drums, I've gotten nothing but responses like "Those make your car look awesome, etc."

I personally love the way it looks, but it should be done tastefully. I'm gonna help Herzy2.5RS do his white to match everything else.

I did mine in high-temp gloss black and it looks a lot better than the green they turn without the paint IMO.

If I use this, will it be ricey?
<IMG SRC="http://store3.yimg.com/I/tayabas_1626_19409480" border=0>
Plenty of mods here... http://www.asiamex.com/tayabas/japanese1.html
enough with the "rice or not rice" arguements, I think if you have to ask, then you probably shouldn't do it...but then who are you doing or not doing it for?

I think you should paint them. Maybe that yellowy color? just like cheeze whiz?
| IMPREZA GUY | 04-29-2001 08:20 PM |
hey hey hey now, i will be painting my new brake calipers yellow, to match my badge and bumper vents
| Aspen_2.5RS | 04-29-2001 08:39 PM |
Well, I have to agree with John2.5RS. I'd rather have them painted than just sitting there cast from the factory, exposed and turning green. Black would be a good choice (considered that a while back).
Although, I can't say the same for white. Even if being done to match the car......they aren't going to stay all shiny and white for long.
Later.

GEEZ Rommel, as soon as I saw that bag I new it had to be a flip posting, then ofcourse I see your name [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img] Looks like it came outta my pantry.

how do you paint the calipers? Anyone care to share?
| Really_Soaked | 04-29-2001 10:28 PM |
Paint them, it looks great.
There's nothing wrong with improving the look of your car, that in itself is not ricy. It's only when you go getting V-tech stickers and 30lbs of stickers accross your hood it gets bad.

the best paint on the market...
FOLIATEC
www.ultraperformance.com
yes.. you can use engine paint..
yes... you can use other paints..
but foliatec is the best...
and unlike them.. it will not chip, or peel... and you will not have to repaint your calipers in 6 mos... that stuff rules!!

I used some VHT stuff which I'm satisfied with, It's been through a REALLY harsh New England Winter and hasn't faded, chipped, peeled, etc.
I paid $5 for a can, which in my opinion is worth it, even if I have to paint them about 5 times, it's still cheaper then Foliatec or any of the knockoffs.
Go with the cheap stuff, see if you like the look, then if you wanna blow $40 on caliper paint go for it.
I don't regret it one bit.
