Free front bumper mod for the 01 impreza 2.5rs

I was looking at my bumper today on my 01 rs and I thought it would look really good If I cut the license plate holder block off, with a hot knife. I can do it really clean I was thinking it would look great. What do you guys think? I'll post pics as soon as I do it.
Peaty 04-04-2001 07:23 PM

I think someone did that but had to use some sort of saw because there is metal back there too.
Lifino 04-04-2001 07:39 PM

Yeah, like Peaty said, been done. It does make a BIG difference though. You wouldn't think that it could change the look so much, but it will look great.

Do a search for in this forum, you should find something. They were discussing it about 2.5 or 3 months back. I don't remember who it was. They were saying they would put together a walk-through on how to do it and what to look out for(now quick turn to the right and shoot like mad into the dark alcove before the badie gets you) I don't remember ever seeing the final product, but if you Email them they would probably be willing to give you some advice...

Or you could just pull out the saws all and a case of beer next saturday![img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]

Yeah the guy who made a one off grille mesh piece for the bumper cut his and it looked real good. Another thing I was told is body shops have something called either a platic welder or urethane welder which can cover the hole for a nice smooth finish like nothing happened.
Supapooh 04-04-2001 09:11 PM

I think it's gonna be the beer and saws this weekend.....Or the body shop and plasmacutterwelder thingymajig thanks for the info guys, I'll get back to you with more info
bratmantlz 04-05-2001 05:17 AM

i cant do that here the cops will sweat us if we have no plate for them to shoot there little laser at us with[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] so i just bend the plate up into the bumper[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif[/img][img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img]

There's no metal to cut if you have the lightweight front inner beam! [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]

I have done this and it is easier than you think i used a dremal tool to cut out the plastic par and then used the dremal tool to cut out the side parts of the metal mount for the tag and then went after the rest of it with my vise grip pliers bending it back and forth til it the 3 smal spot welds broke loose. Oh here is a pic i alos put a mesh to cover the whole hole up and put a set of Hellas in there also...

Supapooh 04-05-2001 04:10 PM

Yeah it's definently being done this weekend. Then I will look into having the hole filled (if I think it's necessary) next week.
Bankheist 04-05-2001 04:16 PM

Zaidoun... this isnt the pooh that you know and love this is "Supa" you know "suba" .. see the difference?
subapooh 04-05-2001 04:28 PM

Too bad we Texas people need to have our front license plates on all the time. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif[/img]
IMPREZA GUY 04-05-2001 05:54 PM

hmm two different pooh but both have brp car ? hahahaha
Sunrise City Rider 04-05-2001 06:31 PM

I believe the Lightweight Bumper Beam HAS the metal bracket for the License plate. I had to use a hacksaw and a little elbow grease to get rid of it in order to fit my Front Bumper.

Yeah, right, like Texas cops care about the front license plate. I didn't even put mine on when I got it from the dealer, and living in Houston the whole summer, I didn't get pulled over once.

Sweet lookin' ride. Can we say "Subie of the Month?"

Any other votes?

Marc they wont pull you over for it, but you better have it on if you get pulled over for anything else.

And if you plan on going to illegal street races.... put your plate on, they WILL pull you over for just that.

"Marc they wont pull you over for it, but you better have it on if you get pulled over for anything else."

HA! my A$$
I know from first hand that cops here do. I got pulled over for no front plate in Dallas a week after i got the car. The cop was an idiot, i had dealer tags.

On my first car, the license plate got ripped off, i got stopped 3 different times for that, and that only! Got warnings on all.
That's just my luck!
yebokmj 04-06-2001 11:24 AM

I don't have mine on and have been stopped and given speeding tickets more times than I care to count. And I have never had a problem with lack of front plate. Infact I just got back from court today for my second hearing, cop didn't show but my lawyer did so it still cost me.

mpaone 04-06-2001 01:29 PM

Sunrise City Rider, my lightweight bumper beam had no license plate mounts. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/confused.gif[/img] Maybe there are 2 different types.

I like my front plate. I've had it for over a month and no problems yet. Got tired of getting warnings for no plate at all.

I like the Euro plate idea as well, but the Cops don't around here!
Marc Sawaya 04-07-2001 02:37 PM

Yeah, the euro plate is sweet, how'd you get it?

Marc
