I had always wanted Sparco Torinos until I saw a used pair in my friend's ride...they didn't withstand the usage very well and looks pretty worn after only a year. Now I'm not so sure which direction to take...

torinos are not meant for "race" type situations. it's simply a stock-seat replacement. And honestly, the material used to cover most aftermarket seats, be it sparco/momo/corbeau etc. is crap. it will wear out.
Kams, your best bet is to find people with fixed back seats either in a car or at a shop, and try them out. Make sure the back is tall enough for you, and the harness slots are in a good position for you. Personally, im using corbeau fx1 pro driver and fx1 passenger/sabelt 6pts.

1) find local shop, local autox or local track day
2) try seats
3) buy one you like :)
I am super happy with my Sparco Evos, but I'm 5'8" 163. Then again I've had instructors bigger than me with no problems. I daily drove them for a year and there are no signs of worn fabric or anything - they're very durable.

I'm 6'1" and 185lbs and the Sparco Evo is perfect for me too.
I have no idea what you are doing, but don't put a racing seat in a street car, it's just a pain in the butt.

I just bought a couple Sparco Pro2000s for my rally car.
I'm 6'4", 200 lbs. They're a tight fit on me...but that just means they'll hold me in the corners better.

Another vote for Sparco Evo, I'm smaller then most of you guys, but I love the seat and it fits me well.

will EVO 2's fit the GD body without removing any plastic?
I want to put the EVO 2 in my car but I can't mod the B-pillar, thanks ahead for any info?
sorry for the hi-jack..

The EVO 2's will touch the plastic on the b-pillar if you have to have the seat fairly far back (6-2"+). Just slot the seat mouting brackets so the seat can be positioned about 1/2" inward, which is about as far as the center console will allow. It may still touch, but it works. Great seats by the way.

I have Sparco Evo's and they fit great. I'm 6'1" and about 195 lbs. I wanted the Sparco Pro 2000's, but the belt holes sat too low and would have created a weird angle for the belts. Oh, and I'm running 6-point G-Force harnesses.
Also, I assume you're getting a rollbar put in to go with the seats and harnesses?

This is my autoX car, so I only plan on using a harness during an autoX. The stocker for all other intended purposes.

i have pole positions and they're just OK. they feel fine on the track, but the quality of the material is suspect.
i really like the cobra imola seat. it's the best value out there w/ kevlar construction and upgraded cloth material meant for everyday use. only problem is "cobra" makes you think of ford 'tangs.

I have sat in the Cobra Suzuka and it is the most comfortable race seat I have ever been in. How does the Imola compare? It looks like it would be easier to get in and out of with the lower sides.

i never sat in the suzuka, so i can't compare. the imola was very comfortable when i sat in it for 2 minutes. the imola is cobra's cheap-o seat but it felt and looked and is spec'd as nice as most company's high end seats.

I have Sparco Pro 2000s. LOVE them. Been daily driving with them for a year and a half. Love them on the street because they have such great back support. And obviously, during autocross, they hold me exactly in place, no sliding around. Only real sign of wear happened this weekend, when the fabric tore just a tad. The backs are a little scratched up too but who cares about that.

I have used a set of Recarro SRDs for years now - work great, ands one of the bolsters on the driver exit side went bad, recarro fixed the seat for free...
These have been replaced with the Speed or something - not sure how those work

Sorry to hijack your thread, but, has anyone had any experience with Ultra Shield Rally Sports seats?
They've got less deep sides than the standard aluminum seats so they appear to be easier to get in and out of.
These would be strictly autoX seats, not road seats.

Racetech is one of the best seats I've ever used. I'd test sit in a few of those.

Bump for Kams#3 to finally tell us what the application is - why do you need a fixed seat? That will make a difference in the advice...
| mykrrrr | 06-05-2006 08:44 PM |
I agree w/Gary. Racetech seats are the money... :D
We run EVO2's in the rally car and they fit our fat arses pretty well. My driver is bigger than me but he still fits his.
I ran a Corbeau FX1 in my EP3 Civic Si for autocross and daily driving. It wasn't as comfy as the EVO2.

no not yet for now just a harness bar that will only be used for track and autocrossing.
and i want to go fixed to run a 5 point harness and i personally think they are more comfrtable to race in. thanks alot guys for all the replies.
other companies i am looking at our Status and still bride for some seats. i am also considering getting the passenger as a reclinable for comfort but i decided it would look cooler toi have both of them fixed. :)
but yeah for autox and hopefully alot of track time (mainly SCCA and local events) this summer :D

Well, someone has to say it: For auto-x you would get more bang for the buck out of a 5pt with your stock seat, not enough going on to feel $600 worth of difference in the racing seat. I'm no track expert, but I've heard over and over the arguement that a 5pt is dangerous because if you roll and the roof collapses the anti-submarine belt doesn't let you slide down to "duck." Same goes for street driving, never wear the 5pt on the street - not only does it create the "duck" problem, it impairs your vision should you need to look around quickly (and it's a pain to reach the radio!). If it does not create these problems, you aren't wearing it tight enough to be effective.
I used to have a 5pt in a street RS for rally-x and auto-x, but kept the stock belts installed for street driving. I rolled my car on it's side at a rally-x wearing the 5pt, going about 45, and I was glad I didn't end on the roof and test the "duck" problem for myself!
If you care at all about safety here's something to think about - many high quality engineers put a lot of time and thought into the safety of your street car. Modifying it by changing the belts, seats or airbags compromises their carefully thought out safety plan. Keep safety devices stock, or go all the way with a professionally built cage, racing seats and 5pt belts. Going halfway compromises a well engineered safety plan without getting the safety of a full race setup.

hey Car, i really appreciate your reply, not only for me, but every one else out there who was unaware of this. but yeah you are absolutly right. i did reseach this though before looking into seats and harnesses a while ago i decided i probobly wouldnt even run my harness bar on the street so i can drive around more people, but yeah, wilth out a cage i could only track and some autoxs, but nothing with a great chance of the car rolling. that would be nuts.
