Rally Car Quiz

Here are nine heavily cropped photos of various parts of recent and historic rally cars. Each photo depicts certain unique features that make the car unmistakable. Can you name each manufacturer and model? Good luck!

I think the Pajero has more of a vertical bacend, that looks like it is sloped. But you definately have more than I do Rsquire.
I only got the Golf, the Corrola, and the Megane Maxi.
Is #1 a Cosworth?
Also maybe a Saxo for #9?
Just throwing out wild guesses.

Mike

Edit: Guessed on #9

Well, that was quick!

Right except for your guesses, rsquire.

#9 is a trick question, but you're British, right?, so you have a shot...
rsquire 02-13-2001 10:00 PM

Thinking about yes it is British because of the GKN Sport sponsorship..

There were some models of the pajaero that did have a very sloping rear..

But Damn... major head scratching going on here now.... [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img]

#4 is also british ( Y reg ) LOL Not a Morris Marina [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img]

Is #9 a RallyX car? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/confused.gif[/img]

#9 for some reason looks like an A2 Golf, take away the wing and close 1 eye [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img].
You know those Rally-x cars can look pretty silly sometimes.

TOMMY B 02-14-2001 05:05 AM

I think #1 is a Toyota 2.0 Trubo Celica.

Yeah by the looks of that air-water intercooler #1 looks like an Altrac turbo.

Gearhead_42 02-14-2001 05:27 AM

What, no Stratos? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Jon Bogert 02-14-2001 06:44 AM

Tom is correct.

I've got a three foot tall stack of rally magazines and a scanner. Maybe I'll do this again. If I do, I'll be sure to include a Stratos in future editions.
STiShawn 02-14-2001 06:45 AM

What! No Group B Audi Quattro, or Ur-Quattro?
rsquire 02-14-2001 09:10 AM

#4 and #9 haven't been solved yet??

Richard
TOMMY B 02-14-2001 09:57 AM

9# I think this is a car that is used in the Europe Ice racing events, It may be a ALFA ? or some thing like it. RALLY ON //////[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
Jon Bogert 02-14-2001 11:07 AM

#4 is incredibly simple.

#9 is a trick. Hint: it's not a factory entry.
TOMMY B 02-14-2001 11:13 AM

OK, one last try 205 T-16 ? if not I give up [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img] RALLY ON //////
Gearhead_42 02-14-2001 11:17 AM

#4 Escort Cossie? The 70's version?
rsquire 02-14-2001 11:29 AM

I don't think #4 is an Escort.. Might be wrong though.. The pic seems to suggest some sort of "hump" on the hood looking at the line in the top left of the pic.

Aaaarg *pulls hair out* I know that car

#9 YEah I was thinking 205 but I don't think they had that much slope on the rear window.

Number 4 looks like a skoda or lada.. lol

Number 9 is a peugeot ?

J.
Jon Bogert 02-14-2001 11:50 AM

Ding ding ding!

#4 is a Lada

#9 is a Peugeot 306, but it is a U.K. clubman car with a Metro 6R4 drivetrain and (I assume) the wing is not stock, making the picture misleading.
Shik 02-14-2001 01:46 PM

Very entertaining! Whip up another, Jon. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
rsquire 02-15-2001 12:06 AM

Lada were originally various Fiat models built under licence one of the "iron curtain" countries.

<various parts of recent and historic rally cars.>

No 96, Healey 3000, Mini, Stratos, or Quattro? Historic?
Jon Bogert 02-15-2001 08:30 AM

It is remarkable that I was unable to include every rally car throughout history in the nine images. I've been considering quitting my job and devoting my life full-time to cataloging grainy thumbnails of Hillmans, Triumphs and Austins. Until I'm ready to make that commitment, however, you'll just have to grit your teeth and suffer with whatever I happen to find in the issues of Rally, RallySport, RallyXS that litter my bathroom floor.
Jay_UK 02-16-2001 11:21 AM

Holy ****e...

I got them right.. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

The first time ever, I get a quiz right..and there isnt a prize... doh!!

heehee

J.

ps - Great work Jon... more piccies please [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
Jon Bogert 02-16-2001 11:37 AM

I originally ran this quiz in the local SCCA newsletter, which I used to edit. The prize was iirc a night of all drinks on me at the HQ of the upcoming Maine Forest Winter Rally (now defunct). Thankfully, nobody guessed them all.

I'll have to think up a prize for the next one, which I will post this weekend. With all the Brits on this board, I'll up the difficulty a bit.
Jon Bogert 02-16-2001 02:21 PM

...but I'll be sure to include a few simple ones for our friends down under.
Adrian128 02-17-2001 12:56 AM

5 is a Golf..7 is a Corolla WRC..the rest i give up. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
