Scangauge in clock pod!

Inspired by Hondo88 (the scanmaster 3 in clock pod guy), I took on this little project, and am very happy with it! Pics:

write up!!!! That looks great. I love having a clock in my car, but I would definetly ditch it for that!

Nice work! I had already mounted a V1 remote display there, so my scangauge is just mounted above the vent on the left side of the dash.

It wasn't hard, just a little scary. I knew if I didn't get it right the first time, I'd have to buy another pod for like $20-30, so that was plenty motivation to keep me careful. Took me maybe like 2-3 hours, but I'm one anal guy. It wasn't really hard. If I can do it, I bet any idiot could. I wish I had taken pics and stuff during the process, but I didn't because I knew it'd take me longer to finish, and at the same time I knew it might turn out crappy in the end anyway. If someone were to send me their clock pod and a donation  I'd do a write up, but it's pretty self explanatory. Just grind and drill holes...

 $165 is not that bad. I almost bought a Scanmaster3, but this is more what I wanted anyway, at what, $80-100 less?
Just rec'd mine today, looking forward to mounting it later.
And for the OP, cool install. I don't want to lose my clock though.

I had the same feeling, so my project now is putting the clock in that wasted space next to the cup holder. I hate having to push buttons on my head unit to check what time it is...

How'd you route the connector from the OBD port to the pod? Does the connector get in the way while you drive/get in?
| WReXd | 11-05-2006 01:26 AM |
I just maneuvered through all the wiring behind the gauge cluster and junk. It's not really hard. The connector doesn't get in the way at all. Only way I notice it's there is if I rub my knee against it. I was thinking about drilling a hole through that plastic piece surrounding the connector, but it's so discreet I don't think it's worth it.

Wow, dude that looks really good. I think it looks better than mine.

Do you have any trouble with the LCD in the cold?

the obd port pops out in like 2 seconds.. you could just pop it out and pull it behind the dash piece and plug it in so you dont have to drill any holes..
nice install btw

Thanks, guys! I haven't had to drive my car out in extreme temps, so I don't know whether or not I'd have problems... we'll see as winter comes.

What did you do about the third button you can't access? The one on the lower right that is covered up. I'm working on doing this now.
Also how did you attach the display to the pod? Did you just glue it on there?

thanks, guys! this thread's pretty old, and I don't have my scangauge anymore (won't work with my jdm ecu)...
Anyway, if you look REAL close, you can see a small hole where the 5th button should be. I kept a small screwdriver in my car, which I'd stick through that hole to press the 5th button. It sure wasn't ideal, but it worked. Also, I used duct tape to keep the scangauge on there, haha. I didn't want to make it a permanent install in case I ever decided to take it out (which I ended up doing).

ahh ok well I mounted mine a bit different so I can see all the buttons. Took a LOT of dremeling to get it how I want it. It turned out ok, I'll snap some shots of it soon.

Hi Friends,
I am in HK and new to here.
I have a problem with my ScangaugeII always stays "Connecting...." when I plugged it into my 2003 Impreza 2.0 turbo. Do you know if I need to do settings on PIDS and/or OBDII protocol first?
Thanks for your help.
