Nebraska region will be hosting our second RallyCross National Challenge in Hastings Nebraska in October. After hosting the first ever RXNC event last year with amazing success, we're really looking forward to this season. This is the final stop on the 2005 RXNC five event series and is going to be even better than last year. Just ask anyone who attended in 2005 how much fun they had.
LINK: http://www.scca.com/Event/Event.asp?Ref=3571
As an aside, we're having a RXNC Warm Up event two weeks prior and it's open to anyone. This will be a two day event, Saturday will be a test-n-tune event and we will have some instructors on hand and then Sunday will be a regional event. As of now, the plan is to have the same timing equipement w/ lights as seen at the first ever RXNC last season. So it's a good chance to get some practice in with that before the RXNC weekend. We should have online registration setup for this event, so I'll come back and update this thread once it's up and running.
I hope we can have an even larger turnout that last time and that we can bring a great end to the first season of the RXNC series.
Thanks - Jon D. Simmons

I just entered - looking forward to going back again this year.

DAMN..$80..hopefully the car will be done and sorted by then

It better be Shawn. I haven't seen you F O R E V E R.
If you still have the damaged Steelie from our early RallyX days, see if you can find room to bring it along with you for sentimental purposes. If all goes well, I'll have a camper on site this year!

Just inspected our land for the challenge. Now that the road course is up, we've still got a rather large section of land to use, decently wide and over 1/4 mile long. That will be for the challenge courses and we'll still have a practice course in a different place for Friday.
Side note: Got to take some laps on the track... It's pretty darn sweet!

Tom and I thought about doing more than one national event this season but since there's no national recognition for doing it (points, year end trophy, big name prize money/cars/women/krystal poured over our heads) we decided not to try and run any more.
We had it planned where we'd get a set of wheels, use them as our checked baggage and fly to events, rent a car (v6 Mustang came to mind since it's available for rental and our the rally car uses these rims) and compete.
Oh well...good luck to everyone who runs this event. Perhaps in '07 there'll be a true national series.

yes, a TRUE national RALLYcross series....with NO stinking 'driver only' rule.
I hope the Hastings event is successful. Looking forward to the video/pics

A true National "series" would be cost-prohibitive to most RallyX competitors. What the SCCA needs to do IMO is not dilute the "Nationals" by running meaningless, sparsely attended ones around the country. A one-shot Hastings National and that's it.

How is running "meaningless, sparsely attended" events diluting the "Nationals"??? SCCA rallycross is still in it's infancy...it's not as established as the Solo2 series. You'll never get a large 200+ field turn out for rallycross. The venues CANNOT support this many entries due to deteriation of the surfaces and frankly I wouldn't want it that big. I like my fairly close knit rallycross community around here (not saying I don't want it to expand.) We've very like minded and come out to support each other and have fun.
They run a national Solo2 series...so why not a TRUE National Rallycross series?
They don't need specific timing equipment that travels around the country or whatever. Get the regional SCCA organizers to use the same timing method for each "national" event and score it the same. Have an Eastern region/western region series culminating in a East v West challenge @ Hastings.
Reward someone who can/will/wants to attend more than one "national" rallycross event w/a series championship @ the end of the year.

Well, in the case of us on the West Coast, the SFR hosted "National" drew 31 entries the same month as a CRS RallyX drew 70 at the same venue - I'd call that sparsely attended. Plus, since we already had a "National", only two drivers that I know of will be attending Hastings from CA as opposed to 5 last year Id call that dilution of the concept.

Said championship will be nothing more than a participation trophy but I guess anything to get more people to show up could be a good thing.

although the car is ready I can't afford the trip, one of these days though. I dont have the wheel anymore but the fender we all carved our names into hangs in my garage.
Do you have any pics of that, all mine went missing.

In case Pego Mack reads this thread - ignore this rectal sphincter. We appreciate you bringing the event to Oakland Acres, VA (even if it was sparsely attended) and if you do it again next year - or somewhere else closeby - we'll be there again. And we'll do what we can to bring more people with us/ stir up more interest elsewhere!

Why did the CRS event draw more people than the SCCA event? One day event vs two day event? What as the cost of the CRS event vs the SCCA one?
Our "national" event only drew less tha 40 competitors.
I'm not saying the SCCA event wasn't with its flaws.
If there was an east vs west championship would those 5 people go back?

Our local SCCA "national" event in VA had 23 entrants. At THSCC events this year, we've had 44, 43, 39 and 29 entrants, in that order. We always have fewer people show up during the hot & dusty months, and the VA challenge was a week after our 29 entrant event, when it was hot & dusty. Plus, it's out of state for us, so we couldn't talk too many of our people into going. The dcrally guys, who ran the event, usually take a break during these slow months, with a few events early in the year and a few at the end. So it seems that it would be better to schedule these things when it's not hot and dry.
If anybody "in charge" is listening, how about scheduling our local event for March or April next year? :)

And several poeple who ran earlier & later events didn't want to pay for two days or didn't want to run two consecutive days. That's an issue if we want a national series netxt year. I don't know what form the national rallycross events will take, but realistically I think they have to be building towards a national competition for next year.

Was the low "national event attendence in VA due to the two day format and increased price of a two day event? Was it because you HAD to be an SCCA member (I think they waived it for some people and let them get temporary "memberships")
As I said before, I dont' think they were perfect. For the Fowlerville event we threw, it was the same weekend as a ProSolo in Peru IN and STPR in PA. This was the only weekend the SCCA would allow us to do it. Other factors that made the turnout less than expected were:
Higher cost due to two day event. $80 for an event seems high even if it's a two day gig.
The fact you "needed" to be an SCCA member. This should be up to the person if they want to join up or not. If not, they pay more $$$ for an event just like @ a normal Rallycross or Solo2 event.
It really should have be a single day event. Cheaper, easier to promote to people who might not want to spend the entire weekend beating up their car.
Standardized timing/scoring set up. We used TSD pneumatic hoses and they worked awesome. NO problems due to dust/rain/wind/etc. All runs count like in stage rally...no dropping the slowest times or what have you.

Probably a bit of everything. CRS event cost $40 for one day, SCCA was $80 two. SCCAs class rules are also not that great in relationship to what we use for the other 20 CRS RallyXs out here.
My point is that is it really a National if less people show up?

Here's the deal.
first, the whole Solo movement is very well established. the SCCA Rallycross movement is not - on a National Scale (caps intended.)
second, the FIRST Nat Challenge was pretty decent (teething pains aside). . .
so - the move of no single National Challenge but a bunch of ChallengeS in order to emulate Solo takes away any prestige that MIGHT have accumulated in the single National Challenge/Championship. . . had the National committee given Hastings time, it could/would have gained in prestige and "become" the National. . .with the Challenges leading up to it. . .but now they're all watered down.
that's the root issue.
Not that the individual events had lower attendance - they did (every single one that I could find had a lower attendance than an AVERAGE local event. . .)
Not that SCCA membership was required (excuse me. . .really? for an SCCA NATIONAL event. . .I have to have membership? DUH! sorry. . .nothing else deserved but sarcasm. . .OF COURSE you'll need membership!!!sigh)
and Not that there were so many of them - it's a GOOD idea to get the National Crew out to the Divisions/Regions to see how we do it and get an idea of how it should be run.
What IS the problem?
These events were ALL advertised and promoted (such as they were) as THE National Challenge events. . . There was a huge lack of good promotion (only at the local level. . .at least with our area there was NO National Involvement. . .which we SHOULD expect as it was a NATIONAL race, right? I mean, it had the NATIONAL name on it. . . :D ) . . . and there was really very little National support - Pego was the only person from National to come to SFR and she didn't support. . .she handed out the trophies at the end, had some drinks with us (which was fun, I'll grant! I did enjoy my conversation with her) . . . but no rules arbitration (even with a 240SX with an LSD in the "stock" class. . .not sure they came stock with any kind of LSD. . . Oh wait, we couldn't protest because we weren't in his class. . .except he was the ONLY one in his class. . .so he got a free pass to Hastings. . .) or anything, really.
There's a lack of cohesion and support for this program right now. Sorry - blunt, but true.
Shoot - MarkA and I were the ONLY two from SoCal to drive the 8 hours north to T-Hill for the event. . .and we're likely to be the ONLY two from SoCal to drive to Hastings (plans are made, money saved, we're signed up and ready).
My events are NASA, not SCCA. Why should it be me and not our RallyX Rules Committee member??? Why would it be MarkA and not other "true-blue" SCCA members? (He's NASA and SCCA but runs NASA events with me)
This is NOT anti-SCCA. This is outlining the issue and throwing the gauntlet to SCCA members.
This is YOUR sport. These are YOUR events.
Hastings is our ONE NATIONAL - I consider it as such and so does Mark. This is the ONLY event where people from both coasts can come. . .
so, don't wait for SCCA National to do something - just as you're already running successful local events. . .set things up your way. do it safe and within the laws/rules/guidelines. . .but this is OUR sport.
Just do it and do it well.
See you at Hastings.

Yeah, what he ^ said. :)
For those who are complaining about low attendance, think about how many people autox in your area. Then think about what PERCENTAGE of those people go to national events. In NC, we have HUNDREDS of people who autox. Apply that percentage to the total number of rallyxers in your area - in NC, that would be dozens who have done it, but much fewer who do it regularly. What kind of numbers do you end up with? Well, that's how many you should expect to go to a national rallyx event. Now move that event that was in VA to NE, and figure out how many would make the trip from NC. I know of a bunch of people in our club who went to VA who won't - and wouldn't - be going to NE.
Now if I won the lottery, I'd set up my STi so that it was as fast as my RS and drive around stealing wood all over the country... Uh, no, actually I'd be in a rally car at every opportunity.

We had 38-40 entrants at the first RXNC last year in Hastings.
Solo doesn't have a national points series. There is Pro Solo though.
Solo National Tour's are just stand alone events, only nationals matters. I think the RXNC is like the NT of Solo. That was their goal. I know in 2007-2008 they are hoping for a true national championship event however.
Amazed to see this kind of discussion take off in this thread.
Hope to see a bigger turn out than last year.

Amazed to see this kind of discussion take off in this thread.
Hope to see a bigger turn out than last year.

We had it planned where we'd get a set of wheels, use them as our checked baggage and fly to events, rent a car (v6 Mustang came to mind since it's available for rental and our the rally car uses these rims) and compete.

I did just this - flew from San Diego to Hastings, rented a Neon, got worked a little because I was on bald tires (and my other competitors were on snow tires - and very good drivers, don't get me wrong), so I went to Wal Mart and bought two new, more aggressive tires the next day. Threw away the stockers at the airport and came home with 4th place.

I for one will admit that the reason I am not going to Hastings (I was one of the 5 from CA) is because the 2006 National Challenge was diluted by the other events to a regional event - last year, it was the only one and had more prestige involved. Judge me as you will, but I'll leave it at that.

And, also here's some food for thought. Barring Malsed and Anton, the nuts of rallycross (I mean that in the most sincere way guys - especially since you let me sleep on your hotel room floor!), I don't know many people who will drive or drag their rallycross car across the country to Hastings for 10 minutes of racing. I could enter two stage rallies with the money that costs. I could also attend an entire season of rallycrosses out here in CA.
More $0.02!

I just hopped onto SCCA.com to check the list and thought I'd compile it all into one nice list.
23 entrants signed up so far. Don't wait, sign up for it today.

*Jim Wood is in the process of switching classes as he signed up for the wrong one, so I have him listed where he should be, not what SCCA.com shows.
Thanks - Jon

We're up to 25 entrants... Still have 5 rooms left at the discounted $40 a night rate at the host hotel. Don't hesitate to sign up.
North course is .38 miles in length, south course is .40 miles.
MPH is working on a $500 cash prize for the winner of the class champion shoot out this year.
Should be a great time!

Event was a huge success and there was some nice close classes to enjoy as well.
I personally had 24 seconds in penalties that made the weekend more work than it should have been. 1 red light worth 10 seconds and then 7 cones. Still finished well though :p
Anyway... here are pics/videos for you to enjoy!

There's a guy here in our area that runs a 5 spd 4 dr Cavelier that is typically faster than many of the AWD cars and even rally prepped cars. I know he's beaten me a couple times and I'm driving a G2 car.

We don't allow that crap around here.
NO4 = AWD + rally tires, all classes allow unlimited mods
Well, ok - there are some Subarus here that get spanked by lesser cars - but it's not the car's fault!
