Shark fin side front? part 1

WoohooRX 11-04-2004 04:31 PM

Shark fin side front?
Where can I get those little fin attachments that the sti's have on the front sides of their bumpers? I would of done a search, but I don't really know what they're called. What are they called?
2.5RSMatt 11-04-2004 04:49 PM

IIRC they are called canards.

The STi ones fit well for the car shape...others look stupid and make no wonder, they sound French.
bert_WRX 11-04-2004 05:49 PM

what you're looking for are called corner splittlers...

Which is what I thought he was referring to. The STi ones are smooth and well not awful looking.

Side splitters. Got mine from Subie-gal @allsubaru.com great price and great service.
2.5RSMatt 11-04-2004 08:01 PM

so canards are the fins and side splitters are the bumps?

[QUOTE=2.5RSMatt]so canards are the fins and side splitters are the bumps?[/QUOTE]

I guess you could say that. I presume he is refering to the OEM 04-05 STi splitters (as they have been know to be called) because he has an 04 model. ;)
WoohooRX 11-04-2004 08:37 PM

Wait, I need one for an 04 rex, so they're called side splitters or canards, I dun want the ones in the pic above, those are kind of crazy, just the little bumps like on the sti.
2.5RSMatt 11-04-2004 08:40 PM

so yeah the bumps are splitters...when I read "shark fins" I envisioned actual fin type pieces like canards and not the lumps as on the wrx.
WoohooRX 11-04-2004 08:40 PM

nice, they're called side splitters, found them on the allsubaru.com site. Is there anything else that can be used to beef up the front of the rex without adding a whole front lip? I like the greddy lips and whatnot, but I wanted something a little more low key. I was thinking of the side splitters, and then something in the middle, do sti's have another part there that the regular rex's don't(the middle front)? thanks homies

The STi fog covers add a nice touch as well.

Nice car dude, I love my fog lights, there's no way I'm giving those up. For the side splitters, do they screw on, or do you glue them? Hey did your car come with the side skirts painted or did you change them?
WoohooRX 11-04-2004 09:17 PM

how did you post that pic?

Side skirts came painted from the factory. Splitters you need to either modify your bumper or modify the splitters, I choose the splitters (no way I'm cutting holes in my new bumper). They bolt on from the back and from the bottom but the leading edge (top and front) has plastic clips that go in the factory STi bumper that has holes for them. I cut the clips off and used 3M emblem tape, works like a charm.

Anything you don't understand will make perfect sense when you are looking at the splitter in person. ;)

Magic. :p

Actually I just copy and past the URL that is provided via photobucket because it already has the [IMG][/IMG] tags.

If you don't use photobucket or just got a pic off the net at random (I assume you know the pic has to be uploaded to the net and you can't post pics directly off your comp) then just click pic properties copy the URL and then post it between the image tags shown above by either:

Hand typing the image tags or clicking the yellow square below the font size selector seen when making a reply/post and then pasting the URL in the box that pops up simultaneusly deleting any text in the box when it pops up.

I'm typing fast because my icecream is melting so if this doesn't make sense let me know. ;)
MikalsWRX 11-04-2004 10:07 PM

Canards are in the 1st pic I posted on the white car. This is a full splitter. You can get corner splitters that look like whats on the STi but they start on the corners and only go just a little past the fog lights. The fin thing is on the Stock STi bumper and its part of the bumper. Thas in the last pic.

ic, I wanna do what you just did, but I have a pic of an sti with the two side splitters and this little black thing that connects the two, it takes away that little space that opens up in the middle. Here's the picture, take a look at the bottom of the bumper between the two splitters.

it's kind of hard to see when it's small, but if you click on it, and look at it on your desktop you can see the black thing clearly.

I have DSL and had time to type this post and that picture is still downloading. :p

EDIT: Almost halfway done now. :o

Yeah, That black Sti is my friends. I wish it was mine. I have a wagon. Mikal

That front end looks just like the blue STi pictured above, I don't see what you are talking about that is different?

Okay, maybe i'm being delusional (a very likely possiblity), but see that area to the far left on the right splitter (when looking head on at the car). it's shiny and black, I have a similiar picture of this car on my desktop and it looks like there's a black plastic, or metal thing connecting the two splitters. you can just barellllly see the edge of the black thing in this picture.

I think the shiny part is a reflection of light and the black is just a shadow.

You could get the JDM V-limited spoiler and it would be very close to what you are looking for. I will try and find a picture.

Here you go:

Kingofimports.com is one place.

You looking at $500.00+ for the real thing or $400.00+ for a knock off.
WoohooRX 11-04-2004 11:26 PM

Yeah, so that's not going to happen, I'll probably just get the side splitters and see if I can fabricate something for the middle.

thanks for all the help cgm

You can buy "STI corner splitters" from any Suby dealer, pre-painted in Blue, Silver, White, or Black.
subiekid 11-05-2004 04:35 PM

The OEM bump looks good but those metal ones look horid.
