Defi or Nexus?? part 1

Lexington 09-11-2005 08:33 PM

Defi or Nexus??
Which ones are better?? The defis look absolutely stunning, and have the same sweep start as the v8 STi, but the nexus I believe are fully programmable to do any startup you want + they have the color change warning feature. Which would you guys go for??

They are both great, but I would have to pick the Nexus line as they are Imperial (Defi's to be soon) and are 52mm. I think 60 is just too big.
Lexington 09-11-2005 08:55 PM

Agreed... 60 draws too much attention. Are the nexus fully programmable?? I have heard this but never confirmed??
Mr. Sadface 09-11-2005 08:57 PM

Defi does make a solid 52mm gauge, but it's not compatible with the Link system.

I've got the nexus gauges, and picked them partly because I was not too keen on the idea of an A-pillar pod, and had put the remote display for my V1 in the clock pod, so pods there were out of the question. That left me with 52 mm in the bezel pod, as shown below:

Nexus gauges *will* have fully-programmable startup and shutdown sequences, but Autometer has not yet released the software. I can live with it for now, software should be out by the end of the year. Other things I like - imperial units (yes, I know Defi has imperial BF ambers shipping now), and the 7-color illumination. If I get a new car, odds are, the Nexus gauges will match the lighting!

ya the nexus are nice but if u want the JDM bling defi are the way to go
Defi does make a solid 52mm gauge, but it's not compatible with the Link system.
yes they do, but not to match the STi colors. The Defi Link comes in both 60mm and 52mm and uses the link, but it has green letters and red needles (matches WRX cluster perfect  )

I'm deciding between the 60 -vs- 52 right now...

Is there a pod similar to the defi pod that is designed sepcifically for the 52mm gauges? I love the shape of the defi pod, but I really don't think I want the giant 60mm gauges. The best 52mm gauge pos I have found is the modified subaru pod. I'm looking for a gauge pod like defis that is specifically designed for the 52 though, not one with 52mm holes that "punch out" to 60mm because then the pod is bigger than it needs to be.

Thanks for any help.

I have a no name pod just like this, but I bought it used and have no idea who makes it.

Its not shiny either, which I like.
paperchasin 09-12-2005 01:13 PM

the autometers dont even match the sti cluster...

u've never seen the defi's inside then i presume...

^^that doenst match, IMO...esp for $800 gauges...
WR^2X 09-12-2005 03:27 PM

Are you refering to the color? The look? I know the face is not the same as the STi gauges...
Are you refering to the color? The look? I know the face is not the same as the STi gauges...
the color...autometers are red....defi amber...
WR^2X 09-12-2005 04:22 PM

Eh, so the Defi's are slightly more orange...
Hardly noticable to the casual observer.
I did not feel like waiting around for BF amber imperials, and did not want 60 mm gauges.
Lexington 09-12-2005 04:25 PM
the color...autometers are red....defi amber...
you do know amber is yellow, right?

So it's basically the difference of...

Nexus have more options and are 52, not 60 - the red matches almost perfectly

Defis match dead on, but are 60mm with not as many functions??

i was simply referring to the colors that defi originally referenced them to... the 52mm gauge is a nice size, but with all those tick marks for the imperial units, its all clustered and looks very messy...functions...im willing to bet 90%+ of the people that buy the autometers will not even use all of the functions offered....now if u plain and simply wanted imperials over metric, thats a different story...but i dont see a big deal in converting bar to psi...id rather read 1 bar than ~14.5psi anyways...good luck with ur decision...

Defi, the imperiel line is out!
WRXAK 09-12-2005 05:05 PM

Go to autometers site, and watch the demo for the nexus line, and you will be sold.
AZ-GT 09-12-2005 07:11 PM

I went with the Defi's before the Nexus came out. If I had it all to do over I'd pop for the Nexus. There is a CF pod that is available in 52mm or 60mm, its pricey - about $250.
Go to autometers site, and watch the demo for the nexus line, and you will be sold.
boy is that an understatement! I just watched it, and now I'm going to get the nexus gauges over the defis... Now the nexus, they only come in 52mm right??? Now what gauge pod options are there that are specifically designed for 52mm gauges? I've seen the modified OEM pod, but is there anything like the defie 60mm pod that is SPECIFICALLY designed for 53mm so it's a bit smaller?

Here's the CF pod they'll drill it for 52mm or 60mm

Nexus, for the ability to use SD memory cards for exportable datalogging.

http://www.competitionconcepts.com/wrxprodmodule.html
yeah, gruppe-s has on too and they have predrilled versions for both 60mm and 52mm, but I wish I could get one with a bit less overhang and a bit shorter so that it doesn't draw as much attention. From what I've heard the glare on Defis is pretty bad so that is why they make the hood so big, and it's designed for the 60mms...

Is the glare bad on the nexus gauges or is this not as bad so they would work in a modified OEM pod?
