Lever2ooo 11-17-2005 07:08 PM

Shortest & Smallest Shift Knob
I want a shift knob prefferably no longer than 2 inches from end to end, I dont really care how thick it is but as long as it fits on stock WRX shifter thread.

I would like a heavy one but I dont really care.

Please help!!!!
azimiut 11-17-2005 07:50 PM

make one. I did. I need a pic, but I got some SS bar stock from work, drilled and tapped it. its just how i wanted it and its fairly heavy.
Lever2ooo 11-17-2005 07:59 PM

whats the stock thread specs? and how think of a drill bit do I need? want to send me yours? and make a new one :)
Handsdown 11-17-2005 09:13 PM

just use one of your lug nuts.

that is the smallest and shortest possible.

and yes... it does fit.

greddy counterweight shift knob. i love it and wouldnt go with any other one. shifts like butter :)
Kaymin 11-17-2005 10:52 PM

I was at the subaru dealership today and they had the factory short shift on one i think, and it was insane, I couldn't tell what gear it was in at times. It was an 06, ohh and by the way, the Tribeca's interior is CRAZY It feels like an airplance cockpit or something
Handsdown 11-17-2005 11:23 PM

airplance cockpits are awesome.

it's just that the tribeca feels like a learjet or 777 and the S2000 feels like an F/A-18

Cusco makes a white shift knob that is super short. It is way shorter than the kartboy, and shorter than the greddy counterweight (I have both) The cusco is make out of some sort of plastic or resin so it doesn't get too hot or cold from the weather. I've been using it for a while and it is pretty cool.
Handsdown 11-18-2005 12:11 AM

it's made of delrin(maybe resin but i think delrin) and it's actually not much shorter than the kartboy, the kartboy threads down to within 1/8th of an inch from the top of the knob... as does the cusco

     shift lug lol
Lever2ooo 11-18-2005 02:04 AM

damnit i want a really short shift knob, I would so not have one but the thread cuts into my hand and it also looks really ghetto
garie 11-18-2005 02:12 AM

^^are you kidding me? it doesnt look ghetto it looks hardcore plus the threads gives you alot of grip. :)
veightkiller 11-18-2005 03:34 AM

that shift lug there is teh smallest u can get and unique
waktasz 11-18-2005 07:04 AM

Get some blue lugs or those expensive spline ones instead of being a cheap mofo with the stock lugs. CHRIST PEOPLE! THINK!
2005 11-18-2005 09:14 AM

Go arc, I love that one. Short and smooth....
azimiut 11-18-2005 02:11 PM

you could cut more threads down the shifter and shorten the rod.
Lever2ooo 11-18-2005 02:59 PM

i would but the stock shifter has that ring around the base which i would have to grind down and I dont have a grinder and I doubt i will spend 3 hours doing it by hand

our knuckleballs are a little less than 2" high and approx 1 3/4 inches in diameter

T
Lever2ooo 11-18-2005 08:15 PM

make one shorter for me top, please
Handsdown 11-19-2005 10:38 AM

lever, you're thinking about this in the wrong way. the kartboy knob is designed to be as small as possible while still being ergonomic. any smaller and you would not be able to shift without poking your palm(that's the problem with the megan racing piston replica).

what you should think about is a shorter shifter. kartboy's short shift kit is not going to be too low, but it will give you a MUCH nicer feel.

unless you are a pirate, and shift with your hook... i'd suggest a short shifter, not a shorter knob.
twizzstyle 11-19-2005 12:31 PM

momo air leather sits pretty low, its my favorite.
stokdd 11-19-2005 01:11 PM

Get the GReddy countersuck shift knob. Not only is it heavy, it threads all the way to the top of the knob (ie once screwed down you can see the top of the shift lever throught the knob, it's flush with the top). Just put one on my father's WRX....buttah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
