skid plates?

I lost my OEM "rain guard" or skid plate whatever you want to call it.
Its snowing here now and I want to get something on as soon as I can like within the next 3 weeks when do my mudflaps
what does everyone think of a aluminum skid plate or just get another OEM one?
I don't rally this car just a street car with auto-x, touge, drag, and snow fun
but i'll have to admit the roads in MA suck and some places in NY they can be harsh... but i dont want some heavy 50 lbs thing under my car.
Let me know your experinces, ideas, places to get them for descent price.
Hoping car be alright without it for 3 weeks in winter

I have the rallyarmor one does the job. Also locally fastline seels them out of NH.

really? I'm going home on the 15th to NY, so its alright, no rush yet.
but im really looking for something that keeps protected but isnt heavy
but if people think OEM is just fine i'll just get OEM again (but seems so expensive for plastic lol)

I got the one for $185. Its solid and has gotten some good use.

I would go for the rallyarmour plates. Theyre really nice and look good. But there seems to be one problem. It looks like you have to take it off everytime you change the oil:(

ya... the primitive i think has a hole for the filter and plug?

http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.aspx?CategoryID=1672&NodeID=5262&RootID=1414
and it has the holes for the oil filter and drain - works very well :D

There is no way it weighs 70lbs, must be how they figure out shipping on oversized parts.

 they're not 70lbs - they ship as 70lbs (dimensional weight calculation when shipping large objects).
i don't know the exact weight, but definitely not 70lbs :)

I held mine up with one hand during install, the cut outs must make it lighter. I do like the upward bend on the rear of the primitive one, it would help you back out of something that high centered you if you ever had a mishap.

emailed ipd and primitive about weight specs... we shall see. Those are my 2 choice so far. i guess its a good idea for these skid plates since my car is lowered with coilovers and these roads... oh man they suck at times, i try to steer around whatever

should be pretty close. like what pdxsilver said and did, i installed it myself and was supporting it with only one hand while securing it. pretty light.
yah pdx, we're posting pretty much at the same time, hehehe...and at the same time looking for a Christmas gift for my Subie :D
look into the Primitive ones too, they make great products and Paul Eklund (of Primitive Enterprises) is a cool dude :)

you won't go wrong with either - the skid plates cover a bigger area than the plastic OEM guard, and also looks good. i've been asked more than once if the thing came stock with my STI  i guess they get thrown off seeing the SSI logo, which looks like STI on first glance.
