something dripped on my car-paint stained

OK -
I tried everything recommended below and nothing took off the "paint" so I assume that it isn't spray paint...some type of chemical from the HVAC lines at my apartment may have dripped on my trunk...not sure if it would be though. I think the only option might be a light wetsand and buff...i tried goo gone, oops, paint thinner and polishing compound...nothing took the stain off

try to do a light wet sand on the parts that are painted on. More than likely the paint is very light, coming from a can like that. With a light wetsand you can get the paint out without taking off the clear under. Then make sure you do a high speed polish and buff to get it shiny again.

I would not go the wet sand route. Just use some laquer thinner and it will come right off. Use a little cleaner wax after to restore the gloss.

just be careful applying laqure to your car, it can eat thru the clear very easily with to much rubbing. Also just make sure you reprotect any paint touched by laqure with a compound and wax.

Dude,
That sucks. I know that a lot of detail shops have or can get a spray can solution for removing spray paint. Sorry that I cannot remember the name of it, but if all else fails use laquer thinner. If the paint is factory you will be fine. Just wax it afterward and done let the area become soaked for too long.
Good luck

try a clay bar.

What about lightly applying rubbing compound?
| RockBlocker | 01-05-2005 12:29 PM |
If the paint is already hard rubbing compound will only work with a high speed buffer and clay bar wont work since the paint is paint not overspray.

Really? My mom's car got scraped up and had paint all over it... A hand application of rubbing compound took it right out. Is sprayed-on paint somehow different from paint that got there by scraping against something?

When something scraped it is caused from friction and doesnt really bond to the surface below. When something spray painted it is made to bond to itself and the surface that is sprayed on. Rubbing compound is much safer it it works, it just doesnt sound like it will do the trick in this case.

Multiple applications of laquer thinner should do the trick. Like the others have said, just don't let it sit on it (undamaged paint) for extended periods of time. With a 2002 model, your paint is over 3 years old and would be hard to soften with thinner.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use something like this http://www.dykem.com/Products/SpecialtyProducts/GraffitiRemover/90130.htm seeing that the paint/clear is baked onthe car shouldnt hurt it at all...
or try goof off, that works on your car too

Goof off is what you want.
My Mom's white Accord got sprayed two years ago with orange paint and it took it right off. No damage to the clear coat that we could tell.
What a bunch of bastards - spray painting peoples cars. Morons.

I used goof-off on my girlfriends spray-painted van... it was BAD too...
Came right off, with a single wipe, after sitting for like 5-10 seconds on the spray paint...
GOOF OFF... get it...

REDUCER = weak thinner and will not eat thru the clear very easily like others have said cause like teknisa said paint/clear is baked on the car shouldnt hurt it at all...

this will work also, I handstripe for harley davidson and we either use a reducer or thinner to take the paint off if we mess up, if the clear is baked on, it shouldnt hurt your car.

OK, maybe it is not spraypaint...something must have dripped onto my spoiler in two spots...the only thing i can think of is the HVAC equipment in the parking garage at my apartment. I noticed the spots when I was parked under these AC units, but never really put two + two together...i tried everything, polishing compound, goo gone and thinner.
I think wet sand and buff might be only options...

A good detailer can wetsand it off for under $100.
| teknisa | 01-11-2005 05:01 PM |
if your gonna wetsand yourself get either 500 or 1000 grit ;) and be gentle

DO NOT use 500 grit paper on your car! You will be a very unhappy person after your paint is all scratched up. I would not even use 1000 grit. Get either 1200 grit or 1500 grit wet-or-dry paper and go at it easy using lots of soapy water for lubrication.
Your best bet is to bring it to a professional detailer.

i only suggested it cuz that is what we use at work (on motorcycles), wont harm the paint any unless you really sand thru your clear.....
| turbokonejo | 01-11-2005 07:03 PM |
1,500 or 2000..Water..I only use 600 if the clear has a really bad orange peel but then you have to buff like Sh!+
