STi Recaros Finally Installed (Pics Included) part 1

STi Recaros Finally Installed (Pics Included)
Finally got my STi Recaro seats installed and they are sweet! the bolstering is much more agressive than the stock seats and much more supportive. The new seats really feel like they grab you in the shoulder area as well as the spot right under the arms. They are also very comfortable. Although they are lower than the stock seats, which isn't so bad, but I am going to custom make some 2 inch risers because i'm a shorter guy (5'8"). These seats would be perfect for a tall person. The blue matches the rear seats and the door inserts and the seatbacks fold forward via a switch on the seatbacks. The angle adjustment is a dial like mercedes cars used to be. Much more precise angles possible because your not limited to the clicks of the stock seat recliner mechanis. All in all the seats look like they belong in the car. Much more so than the stock seats. The stock seats were too pretty for the car. I think the STi is very raw and these seats compliment the car perfectly.

Got the seats from Myles at RaceComp Engineering

Can i ask how much???? will the rails from my stock seats work on these? Or do i need to buy Recaro rails? Anyhow, please tell me a ballpark price, and time it took to get them! THANKS!
G-force 04-13-2004 03:37 AM

adam - let's just say you could get 2 complete (f+r) sets of JDM v7 or v8 for one set of these.
adamsrs 04-13-2004 05:11 AM

Cool! Well i have one set of JDM Version 8 seats...front and rear, so i'm half way there! I want to keep my Version 8 rears....so i guess i'm 1/4 of the way there.

how do these seats compare the the recaro's in the evo 8? i sat in them last week and cannot forget how nice they felt.

are these oem seats? what did they cost?

will they fit in a 2K RS coupe?
RaceComp Engineering 04-13-2004 09:33 AM

seats..
They do fit your car, and they are better than the EVo8 seats, and dont have the flex of the Evo8 Recaro, which at the track can be annoying.....

Kickass, are those seats the same shape as the Recaro Speed/SRDs ?

(owner of a pair of black SRDs)

Ed
STiml8n 04-13-2004 05:02 PM

I remember that the base model is not made anymore, but can't remember the name. however Speed/SRD does sound like it may be it...

Myles would know though...
wistful 04-13-2004 05:20 PM

The SRD is now the Speed. I believe these are re-upholstered Speeds.

-former owner of SRDs
Don

I'd buy these in a heart beat if that had side air bags.
STiml8n 04-13-2004 05:38 PM

they are indeed Recaro SDRs, reupholstered and a 20 inch seatbase, not 18...
STiml8n 04-13-2004 05:38 PM

nm this
RaceComp Engineering 04-13-2004 06:00 PM

These seats are separated from the standard SRD, because the bracket for these is specifc for the car, and dont have you sitting in the headliner, esp if you're tall.

What about for the short guys like me, who need to have the seat mounted higher up? I'm 5'6" tall, and have my STi seat cranked almost all the way up.
bemani 04-14-2004 06:49 PM

Don't do it if you're 5'6". Seriously. Without specially fabricated brackets, you'll feel like you're sitting on the floor, and it is very dangerous, you'll be peering over the steering wheel trying to drive.

On my recaro speed, I had the steering wheel all the way down, and it was still too high for me. And the steering wheel was blocking my view of the gauges. I'm around 5'8, BTW.
RaceComp Engineering 04-14-2004 06:50 PM

I had a customer in South Africa who was shorter than you and he took some metal and added a simple bracket to raise the seat more than the normal range.

SS4Gogeta 04-15-2004 07:36 AM

How do these recaro's differ from the JDM STi seats? Yes I know I already have a thread on this but no one is answering.
RaceComp Engineering 04-15-2004 09:05 AM

e-mail me and I'll send you pictures that are very clear, or both. bIG difference.
