Just the opposite the control unit is what makes the defi gauges a nice set up. One wire to all gauges, memory feature, easilly expandable without rerunning power wires.

albeit it may not be as accurate.

^^lol....i was looking at the pic and thinking the exact thing, then i read ur comment...

How much more power could you get out of your engine with the $750 you'd save buying regular mechanical gauges instead of 3 of these MAD TYTE electronic units?
| paperchasin | 03-21-2005 06:02 PM |
its simply a matter or preference...

Many things are. But some peoples' preference is just plain inexplicable to me.
On that note, I think I need to exit the Interior-Exterior Modification forum, I always wind up getting into these debates.

Obviously you have never seen the Defis or installed them. It's worth the extra cash to me in order to have quality gauges that look great and function perfectly.
The other HKS DB series are mechanical. The lose. :(

Mechanical gauges are just as likely to be accurate as electronic.
I installed Defi gauges in our project evo because we got them free. They're cute. But the Autometer "cheap ass" series gauges I had in there before worked just as well, looked fine, and cost 1/3 as much.
As stated above, it's a matter of preference. Gauges do a VERY EASY JOB. It's not rocket science. But if it's important enough to you to spend $700+ on gauges to do $150 worth of work, spend it, enjoy it, and carry on! I'd just rather have a new turbo or something that would give ME more enjoyment for my money.

Mechanical gauges are a little more likely to be bringing hot oil into your passenger compartment.

hot oil in my nice ride= bad..... thats only if the unthinkable should happen though, ive been using autometers cf gauges all mechanical except for the oil pressure, never had a problem at all and are pretty accurate too... abeit, i would take a set of Defi's ANY DAY over mine... they're the hawtness.....
| SUBYDOODIE | 03-22-2005 01:10 AM |
what does abeit stand for?

It's actually albeit, which means even though.
The best part about the Defi gauges with controller is the memory. I don't have to stare at my gauges doing a pull. I just hit the peak button when I'm done and see what happened. The alarms are great too.
These gauges are neat, but the price is nothing special.

price on the autometers is nearly identical to the defi's...

nice.

any word on when the HKS meters will be available in the U.S?
| manchild83 | 04-10-2005 09:16 PM |
Those autometer gauges look sick. I was in the market for a used Defi setup. But I will be considered those new autometer ones seriously.
