STX help needed- KC? Tom? Mike King? Joel?

Hey guys,
I just picked up an '02 WRX with some goodies and I think I'm gonna try my hand at STX. It is already lightly modified, and so I'm trying to find out before ATL if it's all kosher.
Mods I have found:
Injen CAI
TurboXS BOV
unknown brand HUGE downpipe
cat- looks to be high-flow
3" exhaust w/Magnaflow muffler
Prodrive springs
ECU- no piggys or attachments, looks to be stock and unmolested
Boost gauge- MIA
Fancy schmancy Sparco shift knob
So, right off, I know the BOV has to go (right? It sounds so good, like an old school VW Beetle strapped to a toilet...).
Is the Downpipe OK? I think the cat is within the 6" rule, but with no stocker to compare to, I'm speculating. Wonder if any of y'all might give an opinion at the ATL Pro Solo? (Preferrably NOT one written on a "Protest" form...)
:D
Is there any way the computer could have been reprogrammed, or would that depend on a visible piggyback controller? Feels pretty strong, not a monster but strong... again, with no boost gauge and no stocker to compare to, I'm venturing a semi-educated guess that it's stock... Can you (Tom) check it with the Delta Dash software and tell me what I have? (If you have it with you in ATL) I wanna make sure it's all legal if I'm going to try and run it this year.
If you guys with more knowlege about these could kinda look it over and see if I have overlooked anything, I would appreciate it. It's hard to reverse-modify sometimes, knowing what's not there and all...
I look forward to trying STX out (albeit in a very underprepped car...), you guys look like you are having fun!
Thanks guys,
Brian Flanagan
Serial ConeKiller:disco:
p.s.- Did Joel or anyone ever get a clarification from the SEB regarding the UTEC/EXEDE/Vishnu/Whateverthehellitwas and it's legality? Not that I wanna open THAT can of worms again, think I read about 10,000 posts arguing that subject last night in the archives...)

Here is what you do. Get some all seasons. 20psi is the perfect pressure. Cut your springs. :p
The cat is more then likely within 6", the last cat in our system is pretty far back.
The computer *could* be reprogrammed, but with a CAI and a BOV I doubt it. I can definetly deltadash it for you down in atlanta and we can figure it out.
As far as the UTEC/EXEDE deal. Only the Unichip and "STX MAP" ECUtek are legal as far as engine mgmt. You could also run an AFC and mess with fuel only. The UTEC takes full control of timing and it might be ok for 2005 (if the rule is changed) but will definetly be a no go for 2004.
STX is a blast and you'll fit right in :D Welcome!

The BOV definitely has to go.
Sounds like a TurboXS exhaust system. If so, the cat should be fine. It's pretty tough to install a cat that wouldn't be legal with the current rules, unless you put one in place of the muffler.
Using DeltaDash, Tom can tell in about two shakes whether your ECU's been re-flashed. One note - most tuners put a sticker on the ECU when they re-flash it.

Jeezus you guys are quick to respond! Or is the Scoobysickness so deep that you just troll around here all day while trying to look like you're working? (Yes, yes, that's exactly how I've spent my week...)
Thanks for the help! I wanted to make sure I was legal before I got into the "How the hell do you get this thing to turn in?" kinda questions (oh, but I guarantee they are coming)
On a kinda-sorta related note, damn I wish it would snow down here so I can play Rally Hero around town!

Hey Brian....I got suckered in...er, I mean sucked in as well. I think I kinda missed my Neon and this was the closest thing I could find on short notice... just kidding everyone...we all drive the neatest cars on the road.
As far as the mods you've got, like everyone already said, the BOV has to go. I know, I like scaring small children and wagon drivers too, but what can you do. Who says we give Brian a One Pro No-Protest Pass? How 'bout it...after that, you're bait.
~Mike
Btw, the SEDIV Solo 2 series is fully sponsored by Subaru this year! Woohoo...but you didn't hear it from me...:D

Thanks for the offer, Mike, but I just bought a used factory bypass valve today. Hooray, I might be legal!!! Seriously, if anyone sees anything I have overlooked, lemme know, like I said it's hard to see what ain't there when you didn't take it off!
Scaring small children IS pretty cool, though... If it isn't too much work, I may swap the BOV on and off between events, just for gits and shiggles!
You guys are great! Much better than the BMW and Honda forum bitchfests!

Hmm, I'm thinking "hospitality suite" at Candlewood Inn this year.
Nice seeing some more people come into STX.
And Billy you featherweight... at your age, you could probably drink us all under...Tom's a lightweight, I'm a lightweight. The only one you might have a problem with is Miranda.

Ya know, the guys in our local region here have been trying to convince us to do "bigger events" for 3 years now. In, oh, about 5 minutes, I think you guys just convinced me. :) :D
If we do, will we still be welcome to hang out with the Subie folks, even if we don't race our WRX?? :( My car is rather un-prepared for the likes of you guys! And since I've heard that Jean Kinser-Dana is a very good driver, I don't think I'd have much luck in STXL either. :(

(I thought I heard someone twisting an arm)
Who cares about other drivers? I thought the whole idea was to A) have fun and B) do the best you can while doing "A".
Just come out and see what it's like. Jean doesn't go out to many events. If you at least did a tour or something then you can see the others that you don't normally compete against on a local level. That's the whole idea... to see how you stack up against others. :)

jcroy66-
What kC said! We've got CenDivs in Columbus, Toledo, and Cincy this year along with the Toledo Tour in June. Come on out to any/all or maybe visit another region since we have so many here! I'll be trying to head up to run with Jay & Ed and the Akron guys at least once this year and I'll probably head up to Toledo for a Regional or two. (my parents still live back up there so it makes for a getaway weekend)
If you feel like heading down to Columbusfor an OVR event, feel free to ask & I'll gladly take you for a ride. :) Make sure you're here for the later events since we'll be running the last 5 Pts. events at Cooper Stadium (home of the Clippers)!!!:D

Yes, she's very good, but I'm sure that she wouldn't mind some competition. Winning national titles can't be much fun if you're the only one in your class. I think we might have to recruit some female codrivers this year. :) If I don't find anybody locally, my car will be available for some STXL duty at Nationals this season.
You can also learn a lot from running with/against people that are better than you.
And for Nate, I'm tempted to dig out the picture of the "my lugnuts require more torque than your Honda has" T-shirt. :p

Yep, pretty sure we'll be there for the Toledo Tour at least. Probably the Toledo ProSolo too. If nothing else, we'll show up to help NWOR with whatever help they need for the event.
As for coming up here to see Ed and Jay, if you see them, will you say hi for me?? (That's just a little dig at Ed, who seems too busy with CenDiv these days to show up at local events! :D )

Ah, but you see, I already have that learning experience. :D Repeatedly. Emphatically. Nearly 100% of autocross events, I get to see just how much faster I SHOULD be going, by seeing the times my husband turns around in the same car, same class (I run open locally).

Travelling to other regions and trying some bigger events definately richens the experience! I have found that the most fun I ever have seems to be trying new regions and meeting new people. This sport has brought me some of the best friendships that I have, friendships that go well beyond the scope of autocross. I can go nearly anywhere and say "hey, I have an SCCA friend near here!!!" It's a great asset to have.

Yeah, I remember! That was the 2nd of 4 engines I grenaded last year, in 3 different cars (blew ANOTHER one out of the same ol' yellow Bimmer at Talladega Solo I in the fall... it was a banner year!!!)
I am currently looking to have some pieces of railroad steel bent into a rear swaybar, 'bout 8 in. thick... Sound about right???
