Subaru Ski Rack / Snowboard Rack Anyone Use it?

I have 100 subaru buck and i was thinking of getting this rack for my 04 wrx. Has anyone ever used this before? Im looking to put my snowboard on it. Also if you have it.. how is it mounted? Do you like it?
I realize there are other brands out there.. but I rather not spend to much money on one. Thanks a lot

the subaru ski rack is made by yakima. that price is actually a really good deal since it comes with all the stuff you need plus the locks. i think its actually quite a bit more to buy the yakima branded version.

I am asuming this is all for wagons right? I remember I looked into it for my sedan and it was running like $600.

I was wondering, would these work on a 2000 2.5rs sedan with a sunroof(it would be shut obviously)?

Well that tell me that it wont work because the sedans do not have crossbars. F'N subaru with no trunk. :lol: I guess it will be a tight fit again this year.

You can get crossbars for the sedan, but they aren't sold in the US for some reason :rolleyes:

Don't get either. Get the Saris racks. They are about 300 bucks total. Extremely heavy duty. I had a set on my wrx for a few years. Plus their adapters are about 20 bucks....so you can put them on any car for 20 bucks.

yeah, a former roomate of mine tried to use a thule on his 98 2dr rs, and couldnt feel like it was secure. he ended up going with the saris and then changed again to sport master(?) in the end. ive got the same 2 dr body, but im going with a yakima with stretch kit, though im using it for a roofbox and bikes, no skis or snowboards. ive seen many folks in tahoe and truckee that i know that have good luck with the yakima in general, on many years/models.
edit: know lots of folks here that love their rocky mounts, too

You can also mod a standard Yakima/Thule mount to attach to the sedan roof like the UK one. The mounting points are hidden under the rubber trim on the roof.

It installs and removes very easily. I also like the hight of this kit. I prefer my boards "bindings down" for whatever aerodynamic benefit I might get.
I got this way before people started modding the yakima/thule feet to work with the sedan's factory attachments. I think, for the money, this is the way to go.

I'm looking to go this way. I have a Yakima and have looked at the mod, but people who have done it say it is an "install it and leave it on" installation. I don't use the rack often enough to keep it on at all times.

Wow, prices sure went up.
The initial instal for the UK rack involves screwing these tabs to the mounts under the trim. Once those are on, racks go off and on in a few minutes.
For the off season, all you see are the tabs.
