thoughts on my debadging idea
Thinking of removing the "subaru" from my black sti and replacing it with a black background star -spangled subaru oval like the one at the front of the car. Got the idea from BMW, Honda, mercedes. They all do it that way, just a centered symbol, not any lettering.

Any pic's of people having done this? thoughts?

i had thought about it but decided it looked odd.

i think it was the trunk keyhole that looked reaalyout of place with it there.

now if you cover the trunk keyhole with the oval, it might look good.

That might be worth a shot.

Where did you get all those badges? I looked around, and the only ones i could find were $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It would be cool if you relocated the keyhole to behind the centered subaru oval, and have the oval swivel around. That would be really expensive, but very very cool.

I put a oval Subaru symbol on the back of my 95 Legacy. I had the center light painted out where it said "SUBARU" and took off the "LEGACY" and "LS" badges. The single oval emblem looks different from the rest of the Subarus.
AllSeven 01-04-2004 06:14 PM

I love that ^. I think people TRYING to be JDM is gay, but that looks nice, real nice. How did you get them centered so well?
prelude/2.5rs 01-04-2004 07:12 PM

Like blue wagon did, I too put the JDM "IMPREZA" lettering on. What I did, before I peeled off the Subaru lettering, is made a "frame" of masking tape around the SUBARU lettering. I then peeled off the letters(pain in the butt), cleaned it off w/ goo gone and cleaner wax. I then took the IMPREZA letters, I bought from Suby Dude, and carefully place it within the frame of masking tape. The IMPREZA letters come on a strip, so they will be evenly spaced. The tricky part is making it level. This is where the frame of tape will help. The IMPREZA letters fit perfectly into the frame. Yeah, the letters were $80, but it looks clean and it's different. I highly recommend it. Good luck!

Thanks. I agree, I didn't swap badges to be more JDM, I swapped them because (a) I think it looks better, and (b) I wanted to personalize my car. The IMPREZA letters come all stuck together, so I just measured and marked a couple reference points.

catass -

Did you not notice it from the beginning? I would describe that as a blatant defect in workmanship.

yeah i did, and i was planning on having them fix it but i never got around to driving it back to the dealer.
Zornorph 01-04-2004 09:41 PM

i know what you mean. it would be a perfect thing for them to re-do at a major service interval.

exactly
Zornorph 01-04-2004 11:18 PM

well, I think I'm gonna try my idea . I'll post up a pic when done. Now All I gotta do is find the badge.
exhondaguy 01-05-2004 07:28 AM

japan version 8 GDA and GDB has only the wrx impreza badge on the lower left and either a small "subaru" sticker (for GDA) or the pink sti emblem (for GDB) on the lower right. They don't come with the S U B A R U or the I M P R E Z A lettering in the center.

just noting this because then debadging would be going JDM and putting the I M P R E Z A lettering just does something else.

I think you speak like you are an ignorant homophobe. But I do agree with what you were attempting to say.
BENSREX 01-06-2004 10:24 AM

I was thinking about debadging my Silver 2004 WRX, but I decided not to. My GF pointed out to me.. that I drive so fast, that the lettering is invisible in the sun against the silver background. So why waste time taking it off? :)
Stang2WRX 01-06-2004 12:18 PM

i find the prices of new badges discomforting :furious:
phillie72 01-06-2004 12:27 PM

Why don't you Photoshop a few variations first to get a better idea?

My opinion? Remove all badges, place "star" logo centered and possilby paint the keyhole black. I think it'd look super clean and different on a black car.
