V1 Chargespeed Grille looks terrible (in my opinion)

I ordered this from RallySportDirect.com, who informed me that Chargespeed will only take it back at a 25% restocking fee charge.
Maybe I am picky, or maybe I am a perfectionist or something, but this grille is horrible for $295. Here is why:
1) The hood doesn't even shut properlly with the grille on. It is kinda hard to see in the photos due to lighting, but the passenger's side has a decent-sized gap due to the grille not fitting properlly. When you shut the hood, you have to slam it down three or four times before it will actually latch...and then once it's latched you have the gap. It is so tight and ill-fitting that my girlfriend (who you can kinda see in the reflections of the picture of the passenger side) actually caught the grille in mid air when I used the hood latch release as the grille sprung about 6 inches into the air and forward upon release of the hood latch. Maybe this is satisfying to someone, but this is something you expect from a knock-off part, not genuine.
2) The corners of the grille don't even come close to fitting the contour of the bumper. The grille "fits," per se, but it's almost like a square peg into a round hole (or in this case, a triangle into an arch). Again, this is something you expect of a knock-off, not a real thing. Granted, I could take my chances dremmeling the part or take it to a body shop to have them try to fix the ill fitting lines, but then as soon as you modify it, try to paint it, or drive around with it installed you aren't allowed to return it.
3) This is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but the grille mesh inserts when installed won't even allow the grille to fit (they hang way over the edge). Notice I had to take them off to get the grille in safely. Again, you can wire snip these things, but for $295 for a grille from a supposed good company, that kinda sucks.
Ignore the discolorations of it, of course it doesn't matter because it isn't painted. That's the way it came. I took this straight out of the box from UPS and tried it on the car about 45 minutes ago. I have to say I am pretty disappointed because I was looking forward to this grille for a long time.
This is the way the grille is supposed to look:

My stock setup:

Notice the misformed grille and how it does not fit to the contours of the bumper:

Well keep up the opinions and vote if you will, and pass this along...I am trying to get Chargespeed to give me all my money back instead of raping me for $75 restocking fee (and I never even messed with it).
| Psybin | 01-10-2007 06:23 PM |
What a POS. For shame on rallysport charging you a restocking fee. Send them a link to this and fight that BS!
| Matth3w | 01-10-2007 06:26 PM |
It's not Rallysport that is charging the fee, it was drop shipped from Chargespeed - they are charging the fee. I already sent Rick a link to this thread.

Looks like a cheap knockoff to me. Has anyone else with this grill had the same issues? Maybe you just got a defective one.
| Matth3w | 01-10-2007 06:41 PM |
Interesting that you mention that, but I found this some time ago but didn't think that is or would be as bad as what I got.

Matthew,
Thanks for the link and thanks for spending the time to take the pictures. WE WILL take care of you on this one. After talking with the boss, we feel personally that you need to be taken care of. I did not think it was quite this bad from our phone conversation, but these pictures are perfect as they show all the details.
I will contact you via phone here in a second.
Thanks again
Rick

I just wanted to say Rick et al are all great over there at RSD. You couldn't ask for a better company; frankly, even with the bad fitament here, I would easily purchase from them again. nothing beats excellant customer service.

Anyone have a suggestion for a replacement grille?
| darknightohio | 01-10-2007 09:03 PM |
Maybe:
Prova

or
Zerosports

how much, where from, and more pics of the zerosports?
| saabpilot | 01-10-2007 09:21 PM |
Let them know you're going to inform the largest Subaru community in the world that they treated you right, or that they hosed you. If they hose you publiciazing it will put at least a dent in their business; definitely more than $75 restocking fee. It's obvious it's a POS from the pics, it's no like you bought it then changed your mind for no reason.
| Matth3w | 01-10-2007 09:23 PM |
Well Rallysport kicks ass. We'll see what Chargespeed says. either way, RSD said they will take care of me.
| Vahnatai | 01-10-2007 10:25 PM |
Regarding the title of this thread, you are right. But the Chargespeed grill looks terrible whether it fits or not.

[QUOTE=khail19;16616777]Looks like a cheap knockoff to me.
^^^
It can't be said any better...it is unfortunate because the grille, if made correctly, is totally sweet...hope that you can get a complete refund from chargespeed without that bull!@#$ restock fee.

What was your other strike?
| disaster999 | 01-11-2007 09:09 AM |
not to be mean or anything...but isnt it dumb that your slamming your hood down on your grille?
1) it might just shatter in to a million piece if you push it too hard
2) your scratching the ***** outta your paint.
on a different note, chargerspeed just sucks when it comes to quality. bought a friend a chargerspeed grille for his bugeye for his bday. gel coat was uneven and have pores all over the grille. he needed extra money to fix it. fitment sucks. hood was rubbing on the grille, ruined the paint.

It's not really "slamming," and it isn't going to break like that. I needed to show a video to ensure I would get my money back.
I hear about you friend, sucks.

chargespeed roof fin. A lot of people had the problem with fitting the fin on the car properly, but aside from that i had the fin on my car for less than 6 months and basically is yellow
all in all, i'm gonna be shaping the fin to fit the car more, and painting the fin

I was looking at the psm and was like that looks pretty good. What the heck are you complaining about?? then I read the post and scrolled farther down. I withdraw my vote for "looks fine" and I will place a vote in "looks awful"
