Very angry with GTSpec mesh fog light covers part 1

Very angry with GTSpec mesh fog light covers
 So I get the covers and all looks great. Oh yeah, they would clip in great! I want to use the damn brackets that came with it. In ABSOLUTELY NO WAY do these brackets come close to fitting. Even if you wanted to bend them. I am convinced that these are the wrong brackets period that they sent to me. I got them from Rallysport direct. Has anyone else had these? For right now, I am running them without brackets until I get the correct ones or I have to fabricate my own. I am not happy! I don't understand why it is so hard to make some little bracket. It's not rocket science. They would have been better off sending me no bracket at all. I would be embarrassed to ship something like this. Had to vent. Anyone else had this problem?
jimbobrand 01-13-2007 04:17 PM

I could never get the brackets to work on my old 02 WRX so I ran mine without them for 3 years with no problems.
o2sys 01-13-2007 04:18 PM

yea those brakets gave me a hassle back when i had the bug eye..lol i spent like three hours trying to match the hole and gave up....
PhastEddie 01-13-2007 10:48 PM

I am in belief that it is simply just the wrong bracket. There is absolutely no way this even comes close to the hole and I have no idea how they can even include that bracket with it. I am sending a complaint. I am not happy at all but did wonder if the old impreza brackets would work?
DrD 01-13-2007 11:24 PM

First make sure they are on the right side (easy to mix them up) - second, you might try longer screws - when I installed mine a while back, I had a hard time getting the short screws which came with the covers to engage the bracket - longer ones helped get it started, then they bolted right up.
Uncle Scotty 01-14-2007 12:50 AM

.....LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL........that one took me a minit or 2 to figure out.......

The hole is nowhere near. I tried both sides with the brackets. I cant even get a long screw in there. The hole is nowhere near it, no matter where you put it. Anyone got pics of how there brackets are positioned? This is straight up ridiculous engineering on their part.
PhastEddie 01-14-2007 10:06 AM

By the way, R means passenger side and L means drivers side correct?

Then I highly doubt you had the ones I have.

...nah---they're all the same and I've put a couple sets on bugeyes, including the '02 I had....and I've just had to play with big airplanes and figure out how to make those go back together after c-checks and d-checks....

foglight covers??????

piece of cake
ThrawlWRX 01-14-2007 12:01 PM

I had the same issue... I swaped left for right and back several times... bent them a bit... they finally came around... but not the way I thought they would.
PJAWRX03 01-14-2007 01:08 PM

I had the same problem...in that I could not figure this out. Keep tyring I htough mine did not work but they do, trust me. the bracket should attach to the bottom outside corner. Good luck

Perhaps you could come show me. Because you're wrong. I am an engineer and these do not fit period.

I wonder if the original STI fog covers have similar brackets? I have bent them around quite a bit and still a no go. Nowhere even near the hole.
LowUFO 01-14-2007 04:49 PM

What do these crappy brackets look like? Can you just grab some L-brackets from Home Depot?
Uncle Scotty 01-14-2007 05:00 PM

...well...then maybe ya got the wrong junk.....but if ya got 2 little stamped sheet steel brackets that look like a looooooong, slightly twisted, 'Z' with a hole in each short end......and the covers fit the designated spot.....then I'd be forced to assume ya got the right shizzle.

....and in my MANY YEARS experience----- engineers make the WORST mechanics and design some REAL - REAL horse **** junk for the rest of us to fugure out

I have been a backyard mechanic also for 16 years.

Actually I have those that you speak of. I also did a search on these and found about 20 other people who had the same issue and didnt use them. So I guess I am not the only idiot. And by the way, if I was the engineer that designed these, they would have never left the factory.
LowUFO 01-14-2007 07:38 PM

So pissing contest aside, lets see pics of these brackets.
DrD 01-14-2007 09:46 PM

Do they look sort of like this?

If the answer is yes, then you have the right part.

I am not trying to start a pissing contest. I have the correct brackets. They came with the covers and yes they look like that. All I am saying is the correct brackets do not fit "correctly". Anyone know where I can buy the brackets separately? I snapped the welded nut section off (four microwelds) while trying to bend it to fit. Still no luck.
BakedCookies 01-15-2007 08:32 AM

don't run them at all, they rusted shut on my genuine sti covers and I had to drill the screws out to remove the covers, I continued to run them for another year and a half with no screws.
9vapors 01-15-2007 09:06 AM

Not using the brackets here either, they stay put...
Uncle Ben 01-15-2007 05:12 PM

Same issues at all, almost wanted to burn the covers in effigy because the freakin short ass screws wouldn't fit after hours of being on my back in dirt on the driveway.

Been running screwless for a year now with no problems, save the time one popped off at the hairpin in auto-x. no damage to the cover at all though and just popped it back on after the race :p
Chas Metivier 01-15-2007 06:16 PM

You can run a single long socket bolt from the cover to the back where the bracket would attach if you use a drill and angle the whole in the cover so the bolt has a straight shot to the back threads. I think it's about a 4 inch bolt. I did this for years then scraped the fogs all together for racing brake ducts.
