Video: Broken Half Shaft at ProSolo

Let this be a lesson to you too Beaver! I'll be thinking twice before I do another ProSolo at Peru. The Video is Here.

Ouch, that sucks, nice camera setups though.

So not knowing the story..and only hearing bits and pieces...Which one failed....a front...or a rear...just curious..
and how many Launches approx... did you have on the car...and yours is an 04??? correct...05 and 06's use different axles than the 04's...not that they are beefier...just a different part number alltogether...
Just so it doesn't alarm any 05/06 owners...and I am also not saying it couldn't happen to a 05/06 car...but my understanding is that is a little bit more prone on a 04..
sorry...I know they are expensive..
:)

Nice video....

It was the driver's side-rear that failed, and yes the car is a 2004. It was our second ProSolo. All together with 3 drivers at this event, it was the 30th launch of the event. Our 60 foot times were horrible, we simply weren't getting enough wheel spin. Everyone with AWD reported the same problems. By comparison, our 60 foot times were 1.7-1.8 seconds in Walnut Ridge, but 1.9-2.0 at best in Peru.

You can count me as "alarmed" to the point of bringing spares to Topeka just in case. BTW, what is your return policy on unused axles? :D

Shimmy,
excellent video and awesome site. I really enjoy and learn from all of your vids.
Sorry to hear about the axle. Get's me worried too now as I have a similar 2004 BSP car. Slightly OT, what is the $ damage on repairing a half-shaft/axle?

Yes the half shaft is about $400. The good news is they might be rebuildable. I'm looking into it. The replacement is easy; took me under an hour. Theoretically you shouldn't have to do an alignment, but for some reason I did.

<embed src=<%Response.Write(Request.QueryString("videoName"))%> ShowStatusBar=1 width=640 height=549></embed></object>
Works in both browsers (and Opera, Netscape, Safari, Firefox Mac, etc etc) You just have to call the video using a different call.

I have a dealer sponsor but I think your deal is better by $10 - so Bill is the man to see about axles...
