Where to find nice mud flaps for wrx??
Links and websites please thanks!
Frederf 01-19-2003 09:53 PM

You can get 2002 RS mugguards from subaruwrxparts.com and shave them to fit over the sideskirts... it's what I did. With a steady hand and patience they came out good. $72

Fastline mudflaps (www.fastline.com) are $100, big wide and strong.

Prodrive mudguards made specifically for the WRX $250

STi mudflaps are $450

Pepboys blanks are about $15

My Fastline's have survived several TSD rallies so far. They make great curb feelers too!

Sometimes there's just too much mud though:

Its between fastlines and prodrives. Anyone got some pics of prodrives?
Hyper 01-20-2003 01:03 AM

if you are going simply for dress up go with prodrives, they are really nice in life, but if you need practibility go fastline...that's what I have and very pleased with them

Hey, if you don't mind shelling out $400 for front and rear flaps, those are awesome! :)
mrtrex 01-20-2003 08:46 AM

I need a little of both they have to look nice and do the job.
boulder wrx 01-20-2003 11:40 AM

Get the STI's. Sure, they're a bunch of money, but if you have the means, I highly recommend picking up a set. I've had a set for about 3 months now, and they are so intensely, unbelievable sweet that words fail to do them justice:

Adjustable mounting height, front flap wraps around the fender well to protect the underbody, even with the wheels turned. Super-solid mounting system, using the existing holes in the body. Many super-terrific colors to choose from.

Max out a credit card, sell your sister...but just get a set.

Actually if I was going to get mudflaps like those (and pay for them) I'd get them from www.p-sport.com. If you don't want to drill into your fender you can just buy material from them and make your own for cheap. It's $100 for 3mm and $140 for 5mm material that will withstand alot. Plus it's urethane and will bend easily unlike the ones Fastline sells. They sell the material in a variety of different colors.

Susquehanna motorsports also sells black and red urethane flap material. It's $17 per 18x12 sheet which is pretty big. www.rallylights.com is their website.

that's the way to go if you want to DIY....
that's what most of the "vendor" (aka non subaru dealer) sites are selling anyway!!

buy em and cut em to fit...

If spending time to shave mudguards from other cars is a possibility, then you can also look into mud flaps from other cars. You may be able to get some from junk yards. My rear flaps used to belong to a 1987 Subaru GL (or is it DL). It's OEM. Iirc, it cost me no more than $10, and it's not the flat sheet type.

I just orsered some from fastline. I dont have time right know to cut and fit them. Thanks all for your help.
TFW 01-20-2003 04:47 PM

I love my Fastline flaps.

Only one complaint. One the Sedan, they stick out about 1" to an 1 1/2" in the rear. Looks off compared to the fronts which don't stick out much at all.

Do you have pictures/writeup/etc. on how to do this? I gave it a try and it didn't turn out so well... The back ones work fine but the front ones... eh.

Vostok 7
Frederf 01-20-2003 08:38 PM

The backs should fit directly out of the box without modification.

I held the fronts up near as I could to where it was going to go and look at it. Then I cut some of it out and held it up again. I used tin snips (right/left handed ones would help a lot). To get close then used rasps to inch closer and closer. I think it took HOURS to get them that good.
Vostok 7 01-20-2003 09:11 PM

How did you attach them? I think I'm close with my cutouts but two screws doesn't seem secure enough to me.

Frederf 01-20-2003 09:51 PM

There's 3 bolt holes on the front guards. You can only use 2 of them as one gets lopped off right away. It's a pain to get the clips under the black plastic fender liner, but it can be done.

Also, you have to file out the part the guard that lays against the paint at the top of the guard. This allows the holes in the guard to come inboard enough to attack to the car.

If you are reallystuck I can take them off and make pictures.

Looking at this pic demonstrates the pattern I get of dirt on my car (extremely graphic). What I see here is a need for a flap that sticks out an 1" or so and covers most of the rear half of the front fender well.

Ah, so you DO have to take some off the top. I was wondering.

Are the two bolts enough to hold it on really?

Frederf 01-21-2003 04:11 AM

The "3rd bolt" on the front set probably holds it better. But I don't fear the connection with just the 2.
