You NASCAR haters missed a great last few laps at the Glen in the Busch race.
Robby Gordon trying to pull off the GT4 pass on Kurt Bush! It rocked!

That was a pretty gutsy move, I didn't think either was gonna make it though and then they gathered it up. Can't wait to see the Nextel Cup cars run tomorrow.

If Robby got it more in the dirt at the Bus Stop, he'd need the Trophy Truck!

NASCAR at the Glen is always good racing. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't like car racing or is so blind in their hatred of NASCAR they can't see through it.

I think the road courses show just how good Nascar drivers are throwing 3400lbs of race car around 8 inch wide tires.

Not a NASCAR fan, but that was a good and exciting race today. Though I defiantly think Robby Gordon should have been penalized for rough driving. He was obvious intent on trying to drive through Kurt Bush instead of passing him. Was like some kind of flying body tackle attempt on his part to get by, awesome save by K-B there.
Good race and had to love Kurt Bush's enthusiasm, even if he did get a bit silly with that, back stroke thing whatever that was heh.

As some of the others said, you must not like racing.

Yeah that was a little bit of a mugging, but Kurt knew it was coming. Gordon is desperate to win.
And Kurt has done those snow angels before. Kurt also has a point to prove because everyone always said he was only good because of Roush Racing. The first half of the year pointed in that direction, but he and Penske have seriously turned it around.
It will be a really fun race tomorrow.

I try to catch the nascar road races every season. Wish they ran more road courses, I'd pay more attention to the series. Mexico is ok, but hard to beat infineon and w-g. The top speeds in practice today were pushing 180, thats damn quick in a big old car. Seriously.
I have to admit, with drivers like Said and Fellows running, it's impressive to see the left turn guys go as fast or faster. Robby Gordon's last lap move deserved a penalty, and KB deserved an award for not putting Gordon in a wall.
I'm a big Boris Said fan. Good to see him getting some crossover exposure.

The Nascar road races are the only ones I watch. The ovals just get too boring. I missed today's race putting in tile. :(

I managed to catch the final restart and thought that move was pretty thuggish but not any worse then the crap that went on at the SWC final race last year.
Frankly I like watching the NASCRAP cars on real race tracks. The drivers are clearly talented keeping those pig cars they drive moving as well as they do. I never doubted NASCAR driver talent I just think its wasted on Ovals. But the format pays the bills and then some so go for it I guess.
My dad has a friend that has the full car and toter rig. He runs just enuf laps to earn the base winnings ($50,000 supposedly) and then has a "mechanical" and packs it up and goes to the next venue. He apparently gets a full season out of just a few sets of tires. Sponsors are throwing money a NASCAR right now so it there to burn,
One can only hope Grand Am Cup does 1/2 as well.

I always thought seeing NASCAR at the Glen shows how poorly suited those cars are for road courses. There may be talent to keep those things on the road but the same argument could be made for those Europeans who race semi trucks.

My roomy and I were watching qualifying yesterday, and came to that same conclusion. The cars were very very high off the ground, and you'd watch them going around the track nose-diving whenever they hit the brakes, and lifting the FRONT! inside tire around corners. Those cars are really not set up well for road courses.
| Kitsune | 08-13-2006 01:02 PM |
700HP makes up for a lot though, they haul major ass and clock faster lap times then most touring cars can manage on road courses. They squirm a lot but they've got enough handling and plenty of power.
| nate49509 | 08-13-2006 02:03 PM |
Being at a road course actually makes NASCAR kinda fun too watch. Did I just say that?!?
| cooleyjb | 08-13-2006 03:03 PM |
They may not look like they are well setup for Road Courses but they most defintitely are. They put down some seriously quick times. This was hashed out in a previous NASCAR bashing thread. They put down some VERY fast times compared to other non-open wheeled cars.

I saw the qualifying, didn't get a chance to see the race. For some reason, it looked a lot more interesting than at Infineon. Maybe I've just got an east coast bias or something. I'm also thinking that maybe I'm not anti-NASCAR, just anti-oval. I don't typically sit down to see IRL do roundy-rounds either.

WG as a track is one of the best in the US.
Also huges props to Nascar for the excellent camera veiws etc. Watching Boris's face, hands and feet was truely spectacualr. Well done!

The basic ride hieghts etc are dictated in the rules book just like any other race series.
cooleyjb pretty much said it. They fly around any track for the size and limitations set on them. These great drivers just make it look easy.
Power wise they make close to 850hp for the non restricted engines and now in the mid 400's for restricted motors.
850hp in any configuration is nothing to sneeze at.

All I have to say is I dislike NASCAR even more after watching that race. Not the drivers, but the rules they impose... specifically, the one about coming in under a yellow with the pit light coming on like 5 feet before the car crosses the line. I mean I understand WHY they have it, but Kurt Busch was committed in coming into pit when the light came on, there was no way for him to change course as to not pit. He couldn't slam on the brakes or change direction in time.

I went to the race on saturday and didn't reall like it, except for the yellows it would have been worse than an F1 race for passing, there wasn't any after a few laps and no one was close to one another.

He could have driven through the pit and avoided the penalty. He chose to pit and try to gain the advantage...it backfired.

i went to the race because you really have to respect the drivers and cars on a course like this when they are putting up lap times like they are. My favorite part is sitting on turn 11 right where the pace car turns off and hearing 20+ 750HP cars WOT as soon as the pace car turns off.
