What color to paint Silver WRX?
My silver wrx sat out in the rain overnight at my cabin and now the paint has yellow stains that do not come out on the bumper, hood, and roof. Something got on it and I don't know what but I tried everything including Meguier's Clearcoat Body Scrub and nothing gets it off. I need to paint atleast the bumper, hood, and roof but might have the whole car done. I heard that the silver is a hard color to match. Should I think of changing colors and if so what color should I go to(pics if possible)? Thanks.

There's a color in the UK (i think) that is dark graphite metallic. Just a darker version of what you have. That's my choice. I wish SOA made it. I'd get it.

I am never going anywhere NEAR Madison, WI. The acid rain in your area has got to be HORRIBLE to do that to your poor car just cuz it was outside during a rainstorm (even if Subaru's have crappy paint).
Well if you do HAVE to paint it, then I do think I like ZABUTTER's suggestion - I LOVE gun-metal type colors, so I am guessing that thats kinda teh color he mentioned. (I like that color enough to paint my kit and rims gun-metal).
Also, It probbably wouldn;t look good on the WRX, but I do really like them copper colors that aa few cars have - the New Z is one, and one of the Acura cars has that color too.
Let us know how you make out - unless you have the extra dough to drop, I hope for your sake you find a way to clean that stuff off your paint

Really not an answer to your question, but...
I doubt that the paint is ruined. I believe you when you say you've tried everything, but take it to a competent body shop and have them look at it. At the worst, they would probably wet sand off the clearcoat and reclear the car. You'd have to have spilled paint remover or brake fluid to eat through the paint.
Now, if you really want to change the color of your car, that's another issue. Expensive to go much different than stock, as it would involve painting door jambs, under trunk, hood, etc. Something not far off from stock can be done without too much trouble, but will still be somewhat noticeable.

"You'd have to have spilled paint remover or brake fluid to eat through the paint."... come on now.. I think I SNEEZED near my car, and the paint just pealed off. :D
OK, the paints not THAT bad, and CTKAG is right that it SHOULD be removable either by you or a detail/paint shop.
(if ya got some pix, I'd be curious how bad it really is).
Ofcouse if you REALLY wanna go another color, maybe you can complain to the insurnace company - would something like that be covered (i think hail is covered, so maybe this is too)??? Even if they wouldn;t pay to repaint another color, maybe you could get some kind of scheme (<-- I love that word) going and have them pay for part of it.

i think a sweet color would be a black base with gold metalic flake over it then blue candy over that. that would look hella sweet then get a c/f hood gold flake on it and the blue candy over that.

I HAVE AN EXCELLENT IDEA
Here's what I think. If it's totally necessary for you to have your car repainted, then it's a great opportunity for you to pick a color that the WRX doesn't have on its' current line. Mind as well get a color that's not on any Impreza at all anywhere! :p
I suggest something "Racey!" By the way, I said "Racey!" not ricey!
Also, to tell you the truth, I like that Orange WRX that you see in like Sport Compact Car advertisements or what not. The Altezza rear lights on it is a different story but that orange color is just killer! Forgot where that WRX came from though, but I bet you've seen it somewhere in pictures before.
Go for a radical color like Fast and Furious neon green or orange or yellow or red. Go wild! It's not going to be ricey at all just that if you don't add like oversized coffee cans and GT wings and R stickers or funky looking decals with the cool new color.

fix it??
Well the paint is thin on thecars but their is enough clear their to wetsand if you want to do it yourself use 2000 grit sand paper and get rubbing compound and buff it on after you get done wetsanding it. If you could id try it on a small area that maybe isnt seen as noticably as other just to make sure the clear coat wasnt stained.
If not id take it to a detail or custom shop they will be able to fix you up and for alot cheaper then chaning your color cause that is expensive, gotta paint the door jams trunk and engine bay. Id say to change color and have it done right and to be perfect your probably looking at 3,000.00 and depending on what kinda paint your looking at doing you can double that figure.

hey everyone, i saw the car yesterday, and it ain't coming out. it's weird, but more like the paint is stained - it is porous. i was at the detail shop with him when they were trying to get it out. the clay bar didn't even make a small dent in the stains. they said they could *probably* buff it out, but that they would probably burn through the paint. i think you just have to see it to see how bad it is.
on the otherhand, as someone else mentioned, insureance would be a great thing to check out.
mike, if you're around the store again, stop in if you have some time - i was the guy who found jeremy for you.

cool blue
A color I really like is the new 2003 forester blue- It's called Pacifica Blue Pearl and its a cross between BRP and WRB , It looks like the Forester is the only car in the Subaru Lineup with it. Check it out on their website- although it looks better in person.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't have any pics of it right now. I am in Madison now with a different car but will get some pics when I am home next week. Keep the color suggestions coming, painting the whole thing seems to be the best bet right now.

steel blue mica or some color similar to it.
somebody on the forum here should have the paint code...

that link has some pics of a GC8 in a Steel Grey Metallic.
personally i would love to see a WRX in that color. i'd prolly even buy the STi in that color if they offer it here.
*Edit: was wrong about the color of the car in the pics*

try a Clay bar?
| mikey1299 | 08-15-2002 04:41 PM |
Yeah a detail shop tried a clay bar and I tried repeated applications of meguiars clear coat body scrub. Nothing even touched it. It isn't on top of the paint you can run your hand or fingernail over it and you don't feel anything. All you can do is see it.

Depending how big the spots are...
If they are fairly small and yellow, it's bug crap. I had spots like this all over my silver WRX after parking under trees at work for a couple weeks.
The detail shop said nothing will take them out, but that they will fade if you leave the car in the sun. Sure enough, two weeks later, I can barely see the spots when I get a couple inches from the car!
...crazy...

Have you tried a cleaner. I work at a company that sells bodyshop supplies to bodyshops all around nj and some parts of pa. We have a product from BASF which is what we carry for paint, called 900. Its a pre-kleno that removes any stains, oil, dirt, anything you can think of before you paint or do any body work to the car. it will strip down the wax. but if you can find something similar to that then i would try it and see that will work. if not go to a body shop and see if they can buff it out.

you mean bugs actually crap?? I mean it does make sence that they do, I just never thought about it before.
| mikey1299 | 08-15-2002 08:02 PM |
hampster- that sounds atleast similar to what I have excect there were no marks in the morning other than the spots. I will give it a try and see if that works.
garretwp- Yes I tried Meguiar's Clearcoat body scrub which sounds like the same kind of product. Didn't do anything to the spots. The detail shop I took it to wouldn't even consider trying to buff it cause it is like it soaked into the paint. They said all they would do is burn through the clearcoat.
If I can't make it look good by hampster's advice that BMW Steel Grey Metallic is pretty tempting.:D

yeah, it literally looks like a stain in the paint. you can see where it was most concentrated and it fades out towards the edges. the middle is pretty dark on the bumper, but the hood and roof look a little more faint. the bumper just aint going to happen with cleaning. think coffee stains on a white piece of paper, then go darker. :(
| Hazdaz | 08-15-2002 11:23 PM |
you guys gotta get some pix.
From what your describing, it sounds like its burnt or something?
is there anything wrong with the underside of the hood/bumper - whereever your expeinencing these spots?
Did it just appear ou of nowhere, or did it grow overtime or what?
I wonder if its a problem from the paint itself - as if there were some contaminents in the paint that was used to shoot your car?
