What do you think F1 should be?

With all the new rule changes and teams/drivers falling out and switching places I would like to get all or your opinions on what F1 should be. My simple definition is that F1 should be the pinnacle of motorsport with exotic looking cars and high revving high horsepower engines. I also think that they should always be the fastest cars on earth that turn left and right as long as it is safe. Teams should also have to design their own chassis and have it be a competition of engineering as well as drivers skill.
I hope F1 turns this big ol' boat around and can get some new teams and new life into the sport rather then loosing them.

I want it to be the pluralities you list more Fmany than F1 as in 1 team and 1 driver. It is for our entertainment and their business - neither is working.
I would like to get all or your opinions on what F1 should be
Hugely powerful, barely controllable open wheel cars that only the very top drivers can handle. Plenty of technology to make them faster (more power, more mechanical grip), but minimal technology to help the drivers (no traction control, manual gearboxes). These should be cars that leave no doubt that the F1 drivers are the best on earth.

i know of one racing series that uses magnets to test for expensive rare metals in engine parts. maybe to decrease engine cost f1 should implement a similar strategy. then somehow find a way to limit rpm to 10 or 12K. i think more car companies would be interested in racing v-8's rather than v-10s (exceptt bmw)
to make racing more interesting: find someway to increase mechanical grip and rely less on aero grip. remove traction control. leave the brakes they way they are. limit testing, limit wind tunnel time.
just my ideas

Foremost, keep F1 as a technological advanced engineered race series.
Don't dumb down to make it socialistic.
Open up engine rules to allow rotary's and two strokes. No turbos tho.
One tire mfg.
Limit wing/aero surface area.
No pit stops for fuel, Just like the way it used to be. Make it a sprint race. TV will never allow this to happen tho:(
Keep safety paramount. Add weight to the cars if needed.
Only allow traction control in 1st and 2nd gears.
Keep it exclusive and expensive. This is F1.
Two race weekend, with inverted starts for Sundays final. Again no pit stops.
Make the pits more accessable for the average race fan.

I say keep the V10's as a lot of manufacturer's are going that way with the really high performance stuff anyway (Ford, Doge, Porshe, BWM) and switch to a single tire manufacturer. Having a single tire would probably just about level the playing field- even this year.

It would be a DISGRACE to try and slow the cars down as much as they are planning. F1 , like described above, is a showcase for the best of what the world offer. Safety should be top priority but this is a dangerous sport to begin with- there will always be risk. What's next, driver's are going to have to say, "Please?" when they pass?

I like F1 as it is now, it is extremely popular every where but in the U.S. I believe that is because races happen when we are sleeping; it will never be popular in the U.S. for that reason.
Having said all that I am one of the few that gets up early enough on sundays to watch live F1 racing, and I am against the rule changes for next year.
Some ways they could make it more interesting is:
1) Eliminate team order.
2) Let the two Ferraris race each other as Hakinnen and Coultard did when they were with McClaren.
3) I think Schumaker is the best driver in the world, excluding rally, but I almost wish he was not there, to make it fair for everyone else, he just dominates, put him in the sauber or jordan team. ;)

F1 isn't popular in the U.S. because there are:
1.)No beer sponsors,
2.)No southern accents,
3.)Plenty of right hand turns,
4.)People who have trouble seeing the drivers' numbers on the car,
5.)No 800hp Monte Carlos, Luminas, Intrepids, or Tauruses that you
can buy a version of in your local dealership.

i think f1 should be the pinnacle of motorsport.
they should be the fastest with the best drivers.
I dont like the direction its heading because the main reason i watch f1 right now is because i know i am watching the best cars on earth, they can take turns the fastest their top speed is the fastest they accelerate better than any race car. It seems the fia wants to turn it into nascar. Pure spectacle no driver talent involved.

F1 should be unlimited technology, the teams that complain about not being able to compete with the front runners because of the difference in their budget should be eliminated. Only two teams in F1 make their entire car, Ferrari and Toyota. All others mix engine, chassis, aerodynamics to achieve the car you see on the track. BMW, Mercedes, Honda, ect. should step to the plate and really push the envelope instead of watching Mclaren, Sauber, Williams chase the leaders. With the 15 million dollar budject that Minardi has, he could clean-up in the Champ car or IRL series, instead he complains about Ferrari spending 300 million to achieve the incredible machines they unleash on the rest of the field. I don't think they should slow them down at all.

DO NOT DUMB DOWN THE CARS!!!!! No V8s!!!! Formula 1 has always been high tech, high revving, fast, beautiful racing.

I stand corrected, I forgot Renault. I have great respect for all teams that take this route. I just wish more would join in, it's not like they can't afford it! BTW good call Bottom Feeder!

1: Bring back slicks.
2: Get rid of the extra chicanes that were added to the tracks.
3: Ditch a lot of the aerodynamics and most of the computer control.
4: Run the USA race somewhere else other than indy ( yuck! )

I don't think the motors should necessarily be high revving.
Just powerful and light will do, by whatever means engineers can figure out =)
I also think active suspension should be brought back, and have less emphasis on aerodynamics

F1 should have a few simple rules:
1. cars have 4 wheels
2. cars have human drivers (in the cars)
3. must fit within a box 80'' wide, 40'' tall, 200'' long
4. must have all current safety regulations
That's it :)

Less emphasis on aero.
Spec 'slick' tire.
Any number of cylinders, but max of 3L capacity. I want to see v-8 -> v12's.
No more MS and Ferrari domination. This means that the other teams need to bust their asses to catch up and pass Ferrari. It can be done, but will it be done...?

winner.
This is what F1 was in the 50s, 60s & 70s, and (arguably), the best drivers ever came out of those eras.

Cars would end up having 2,000hp with massive wings, ground effects, traction control, computer controled aerodynamics, etc. This would be great until a driver loses it and launches into the stands.

For all motorsports enthusiast, you whould watch this weekend GP. there's the comeback of a real driver, Jacques Villeneuve. He is the only one, IMO, that can fight and possibly beat Michael Schumacker with an equal car. On paper, MS is the greatest driver, but on the track, JV has more nerves, more guts. Under stressful situation, he keep better control than MS. Maybe he only used to be all of this, but I hope he will prove wrong all the haters this week-end. If the F1 return to basic like it is supposed to, with less electronic help, manual shift, brake balance, and etc, great drivers will shine, and Villeneuve is one of them. The father has been the king of the track for the time he lived. the uncle is 50 yrs old and still beating the kid's ass in snowmobile racing. I'm sure the son is here to stay.

NicEJ25, you don't think Kimi could put the fight on Michael? You are right that Jacques, but I think Kimi could do just as well(if not better). Kimi's just had horrible luck with the silver arrows motors going ka-blammo race after race. I'd be willing to put money on Kimi if he wore red next to Michael...
Not disagreeing with you on Jacques, but moreso that he'd be the only one who could hang with Michael given an equal car.
Mika

I am not a JV hater but I don't think he is the only one that can take the fight to Shuey. I think if given equal cars (won't ever happen) Kimi, JPM, Alonso, Webber and to a lesser extent Sato and Jenson can too.
Saying that, I do believe that MS is the best driver in the world but I also think his dominating Ferrari makes it almost impossible to judge on an even playing feild. Rubens looked to have won Monza on car alone. Take it from 80% to 100% and win a race. Simple as that for Ferrari right now, thats how much more superior they are.
