What the heck are all these spots?

It seems that after I wax my car....these spots start appearing after a few hours or on the next day. This happened on my old car too. I don't know if it's something in the air or it's the wax or what...The car was covered overnight, and I noticed these spots on the door after I got to work (only a few miles away after being uncovered for only 30 minutes). They start in a small area, and then seem to spread. You can buff them out with a cloth, but then they start appearing at the end of the areas you buff. I don't get it, they're making me crazy!
Edit: This is Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax.

This seems to pretty much only happen in the period (just a day or so) after a wax....

I would clay your car. It might be you got hit by acid rain but not sure.
| wwiifanatic | 06-25-2006 06:50 PM |
I DID clay it this time! It's sooooooooooooooooooo soft. Spent 4 hours on the thing and i hate it when these spots appear.
| jaywrx | 06-25-2006 06:52 PM |
do you armor-all yor tires afterwards? if so it looks like overspray.
| Speed Racer | 06-25-2006 06:52 PM |
I would like to know too. It's happened to me too and I don't think it's acid rain cause the spots showed up on the inside of my front windshield.
| SilverBullet2.5RS | 06-25-2006 06:57 PM |
Thats armorall or some sort of tire treatment. Do your tires inside of when it's less breezy.
If's on you other black trim, this will take it out.

That is moisture that falls from the trees that your car is parked around. I get that all the time since my house is surounded by trees.

Could be that also, does it smear when you touch it?

It smears when you rub it and then disappears.
I do have back to black. Stuff's alright but not great...tends to attract dust.
I use Black Magic tire wet using a tire applicator, and I spray the stuff on the applicator away from the car. This stuff was not on the car when I put the cover on for the night.

If you shine up your tires, it could be the stuff to make them shiny getting all over your car, I personally hate dressing up the tires for this exact reason.
| wwiifanatic | 06-25-2006 07:53 PM |
Wait a minute.....idea....Could it be that centrifugal force is throwing the tireshine off the wheels when I drive and that's getting all over the car?
Then how the hell is it on the windshield and the roof?

Ditto, sometimes it dosen't appear right away either.
You could have the stuff on your car cover too, but I wouldn't think would make the spots like that, only spray would do it.
BTW: Time for some new door handles, eh?

Silicone stuff like tire shine can float in the air so if you sprayed away from your car it could still get on there. I had problems with a detailer once/ Vendors, I would have something all cleaned up and ready for paint and the damn man would spray his crap while I'm base coating, next thing I know I clear coat this bumper and get fisheyes all in my job. I Had him pay for it second time around for he can learn. We would work at least 50 feet away.
| crmcodeman | 06-25-2006 10:22 PM |
to avoid this you can either go to a gel tire shine or spray the tires when there is no wind
| gingertooth | 06-25-2006 11:13 PM |
did you use some sort of wax spray on your car? i have the exact same crap on mine in the same location. i think it is from spray-on wax though.
| wwiifanatic | 06-26-2006 12:43 AM |
No spray on wax. I was far away not facing the car, and had the spray nozzle very close to the tire applicator. I think the stuff is literally flying off the tires as I drive.
I think you guys have solved the problem for me. Thanks! :D
Ima wipe the crap off the tires and see if this happens again next time.

Spray it on an old wax applicator pad, makes a perfect tire shine applicator. Thats what I use and it makes my tires look like a very nice matte black.
| wrxzboost | 06-26-2006 02:09 AM |
tire shine sucks...
| gingertooth | 06-26-2006 09:19 AM |
you got that right man. i found all kinds of black shi* all over my car from tire shine too. it took me days to figure out what the hell it was. it was no where near the tires too. the only way to no get that is to find one that dries up pretty good and still looks decent.
| Black-Falcon | 06-26-2006 10:05 AM |
I'm tellin ya. You guys gotta wipe it on, I have a white car and if you let it dry properly, I don't get any of the black crap on my car at all.
| wwiifanatic | 06-26-2006 01:55 PM |
I'm tellin ya, I wiped it on. I used an applicator. It sat overnight.

any one use the gel tire stuff from mcguir's. Maybe that would fix your problem?
| subywrx | 06-26-2006 03:26 PM |
Could it be someone that parked next to your ride and started spraying something to clean theirs?

aye .. i usually spray a very little bit on while protecting the fender with a towel or something and then spread it around with another cloth keeps it off the fenders as well as from running all over the rims. then i usually don't drive for at least a few hours just to make sure it doesn't go flying all over the place

i've had that problem before. What i've determined is that its the car wash. You might be using too much soap when you wash your car. I had that happen to my car the first few times i washed/waxed it and i used less soap and the spots went away
| JMax5k | 06-26-2006 05:04 PM |
i don't think its tire shine. unless you really soak your tire with it. i think its from tail-gate'n other cars. alot of ppl use there ac so water drips through there engins wells and picks up spec's of oil. or they get on it and start burning oil. but i don't think tire shine can fly up that high when your driving.
| MF-DIF | 06-26-2006 05:17 PM |
Next time, don't do the tires and see if it shows up again.
| gingertooth | 06-26-2006 10:56 PM |
it's definately the tire shine. i have never tailgated in my life and i get it too. unless that stuff huvers for 50 feet before it hits.
| wwiifanatic | 06-27-2006 01:51 AM |
I NEVER tailgate...I don't do that crap. Tire shine makes sense because I have accidently gotten some on the car before and it makes that same type of pattern. We'll see next time when I wash it in a few days (damn rain last night).
I use the Meguiar's gold class soap btw, doesn't make sense that it's the soap because it doesn't appear right away.
