The only thing I don't see on that picture is zip ties. I'd use them just to be on the safe side.

to the OP,
if it is not too late, instead of cutting the hose there to put in the T,
get an 'extra' piece of hose that is a few inches long.
then, disconnect the hose at the BPV, swing it downward,
put in the T, and then use the short length of hose to connect the other side of the T to the BPV.
this way, if you ever need to take out the boost gauge, or disconnect the T,
(say you crack or kink the vac line to the gauge during the install),
you can just pull out the T and swing the original hose back into place.
Longarm 01-20-2007 06:06 PM

Great, thanks guys....... and good thought re: the using a little bit of extra hose so you dont have to cut the stock one.....
Brock31 01-20-2007 09:07 PM

I thought I'd jump in here because I'm installing an Autometer (yeah I know) boost gauge I bought tonight. Is the location for the "T" noted in the pic basically the same for an '04? Also, the "t" fitting that came with the gauge seems really small diameter. Should I get a larger diameter? If so what size? That is definitely a great idea about lengthening the hose instead of cutting it. I was thinking of wiring the gauge light into the clock power source. Is this a good idea? Can I go from the fuse box? Thanks for any help!!!
east milford wrx 01-20-2007 09:10 PM

If you had a stock boost guage you can use that line aswell....im sure you dont but just so you know incase
..
Brock31 01-20-2007 09:15 PM

No stock gauge unfortunately. That probably would make this alot easier. I'm pretty much starting from scratch and this is my first gauge install:confused:
east milford wrx 01-20-2007 09:18 PM

The set up is the same as in the pic for you too brock....I would just do it like you see in the pic.. its easy and works fine. Yes the T fitting will be quite small but it will be fine too.
Brock31 01-20-2007 09:34 PM

Cool! Thanks for the input. Does it matter where I run the line thru the firewall? Also, can I hook up power to it thru the fuse box or is there a better method?
cpasti 01-20-2007 10:28 PM

Look behind the pedals on the drivers side, there's a grommet there that goes through. Use the clock for power (if electrical boost gauge) or for illumination (mechanical, power for light only) and ground for either. Just tap the lines on the clock, they're all labeled.
dibblejr 01-20-2007 10:46 PM

You should change the plastic tubing that comes with the guage to silicone tubing instead.
The pic is from an 04

what diameter line should I get? what type of silicone tubing, the stuff from a hardware store? what diameter?

yeah I found that grommet and I probably use that one. Its a mechanical gauge so the power I need is for illumination. You're saying tap the clock power at the fuse box, right? I found the clock fuse, so then I could just ground it to the chassis or other grounding location
dibblejr 01-20-2007 10:53 PM

You can get it from Autozone or any auto parts store. I believe 1/8" 3/16" standard vacuum size or in metric .04mm ID. I used 1/8" vacuum line from Autozone and recently found a source for .04 for a project I am undertaking.

dmxsoulja3 01-20-2007 11:07 PM

I don't like to tap, so get a "add a circuit" so you can always remove if needed... also dibble is the grommet your talking about a different one than the one under the intercooler that the stock oem gauge says to take the intercooler off to get to? I really don't want to do that to my new car if I don't have to. maybe a pic?
dibblejr 01-20-2007 11:21 PM

I didnt mention a grommet. To install a boost gauge you do not have to remove the TMIC.
The tubing I am talking about is the clear/whitish plastic tubing that comes with most AM gauges, it is crap. If you are going to install the gauge spend the other $4 for silicone vacuum tubing to do it right the first time.
Just make sure when you run it through the firewall not to kink it.

ah ok misread...yeah I have the oem lamco setup with silicone tubing, I just don't want to go through the grommet they talk about in the instructions which involves removing the intercooler
dibblejr 01-20-2007 11:26 PM

If your car didnt come with the boost gauge installed dont worry about the grommet, just install as my pic above and use the alternate tubing method for easy quick repair if ever needed.
Personally the OEM gauge is not that good, but it's what you have and it's better than nothing. I would get a Tactrix cable if I were you someday and openecu or ecuexplorer program and check your gauge for calibration.
At least you are smart enough to have a boost gauge.

dmxsoulja3 01-20-2007 11:33 PM

yeah owned a few boosted cars, no stranger to a boost gauge...I mainly got the oem setup because I liked the plug and play harness, the gauge holder, and the silcone tubing...now I'll get an Omori 45mm boost gauge which is a proven performer and I'm set.
Brock31 01-21-2007 12:18 PM

I hooked in the "T" as pictured. Idle, the gauge is reading vacuum and when I rev the engine, it goes towards zero. Something isn't right here?
I didn't cut the hose pictured luckily, I just extended it with another piece of hose to make sure the gauge was working and I was connecting things right. Anybody got any advice?

Sounds right to me. Take it around the block and take her up to 6k or so at WOT in 2nd gear on a fast road. Car should hit peak boost and taper down a bit if you are on stock ECU.

No load on engine = no boost
Brock31 01-21-2007 12:29 PM

OK cool, I just wanted to make sure. I am on a stock ECU with only the UP gutted and silencer deleted. What peak boost psi should I look for?
dibblejr 01-21-2007 01:17 PM

^^^ The correct answer. No load = no boost.

thanks for the input.
I have to ask...I know...jeez...but I absolutely suck at wiring. I've got the steering column open and plan on mounting in that location. I can't find where to wire the light to so the gauge lights up when I turn on the headlights. I've made a couple of attempts but no luck or partial luck and I don't want to use a whole roll of electrical tape repairing my mistakes!
thanks for any input

Run the wire under under the dash bezel immediately in front of the steering column, then up to the right to the clock area, assuming you want to tap off of the clock. Peel back the wiring sheath on the clock and you'll see each wire labeled where the pin connector goes into the clock. Tap one to "ILL" and one to "GND". That way your gauge will only light up when you turn on your headlights.

If I recall, if you search here or scoobymods.com there is a pic by pic install of a boost gauge. If you take out the stereo there is a place that you can install the boost gauge without cutting wires. That is how I did mine and it turns on when my headlights turn on and still has dimming.

That is a good tip. What size line is that?
Atomic 02-02-2007 10:51 AM

+1 on stock tube size
Extension looks like good idea at tee. What is the stock tube size? (not 1/8 it gauge or sender).

Thanks
adam_m_mcinerney 03-23-2007 04:46 PM

I second the question on what size the bpv line is in order to get an extenision.
eggeegg 03-23-2007 04:57 PM

i bought a foot of 1/4 in. tube from Kragen for $2. fits just like the stock tube. ask them what you're planning to do and they'll know what type of tube. yes, 1/4 in. is the size.
Atomic 03-23-2007 05:11 PM

tube sizeb
Stock is 1/4 tee to defi sensor is 1/8.
adam_m_mcinerney 03-23-2007 05:34 PM

Cool thanks guys I appreciate it.
Final Clutch 05-29-2007 03:43 AM

where does the power wires of the OEM gauge plug into? Does it plug into the back of the radio? I'm curious because I want to get a new CD deck and didn't want to loose luminosity to my boost gauge. thanks.
Longarm 05-29-2007 01:16 PM

just tap into your cig. lighter power wire.... and yo can also tap into the light wire at the same loc for any lighting issues that you may have
Heider 02-24-2009 01:07 PM

good info here. thanks.
