Which European WRC Event would you attend

OK, next year, it's definite... I'm going to a WRC round someplace in Europe with the wife.
Right now it's between Finland and Greece... just for the weather. :) Which would you pick of those two?
Would you pick a different one other than those two? Except Sweden... too cold for a vacation to just 'stand around'.

I would go to Finland if I were you.

didnt Felstead say he was disapointed by Finland?
I think Finland would be sweet as hell, as long as there is something to do post rally.
And it's during the summer, so...i wouldnt have to skip a week or so of classes!
edit: Spain would be another one of my choices, cause i have been to the area, and it kicks ass. And i bet it's nuts during the rally weekend.

Finland
I wish it wasn't so close to Maine.
I'm hitting up Finland in 2005 when I get that 4th week of vacation.
Word.

I would choose Finland. I like to see the cars jump.
But Mexico is close to home so I would robaly make that one the first WRC event I went to.
Peace out Marvin

Rally Australia seems like a neat event. Special Spectator Stages, pyrotechnics, West coast of Perth (I wonder if its like the West coast of the US?), and toilets swish the other way.
And I always wanted to fly Qantas

Amazing options

Pick a place that's got great things to do pre and post rally. You may find that standing in a huge crowd to see a little bit of a whole lotta cars flash by ain't quite what you hoped. The congestion and parking issues of a WRC event can make a day of spectating into a total PITA. Find your spot a couple days before the rally, scout parking and an access route...you'll be glad you did. Choose a stage that gets run out and back or runs both ways, this will double your spectating payoff for the same parking hiking waiting PITA quotient.
Pick Corsica cause of the sun and absolutely sick awesome roads and insane speeds and little-known secret grotto beaches. Look around, you'll find em. Better yet, rent some sea kayaks and then you really WILL find the special sexy beaches. Corsica is still relatively cheap, and not stupidly overpriced like Monte Carlo where you'll pay $15 for a bottle of water and a green banana.
Pick Rally NZ because you already speak the language (or something like it anyway). NZ is so set up for fun-hogs you won't believe it. Rent a camper and tour the whole island. Climb. Ski. Swim. Dive. Lay on beaches and drink awesome local wines. Sleep late....you get the idea! You can almost certainly rent a Subaru there...maybe even a fast one!
Cheers, have fun, watch out for airborne decal-covered UFOs!

Any WRC event someone is willing to fund for me.;)
Sweden would be kind of neat because I have relatives there that my parent's have kept in touch with over the years. My great grandparents were from there.

I would go to Finland. I went to the Acropolis rally this year since I live about two hours away. Greece is good if you like dust and heat. The parking sucks and finding some of the stages is a pain. If you do go to greece take a very good map and a english/greek phrase book. Pics at

Hey 007, you can send me an e-mail if you plan on going to Greece. I can probably answer or get an answer to whatever you need. I plan on going again next year. So if you need anything let me know.

If you are taking in a holiday/family thing as well as the rally i would strongly sugest you dont do Finland, the country is boring and expensive, acomodation is poor. The roads are awesome for rallying on, but as a place to visit, forget it. I drove every stage in Finland prior to the event so if you are into just doing the rally and driving the stages its a good choice, but dont expect an interesting country. If you do go ask for a dish called putinthepan, its the only interesting food i had all week.
My favourite rally this year has to be Acropolis, everything is brilliant and it's perfect for taking in a holiday before/after the stage event. Again here i drove all the stages, what an experience in a Peugeot 306 that was! The picture of my car used on WRC.COM was used on the Colin McRae profile in the Rally GB motorsport news suplement which is :lol: There is a lot to see outside the rally, i based myself in Delphi with the Oracle just a few hundred yards away, incredible scenery.
Cyprus is a great place to visit if you are looking for a holiday, it's pretty wild in places and very hot, the stages are superb too. It got a British feel to it compared to Greece, a bit more stiff upper lip compared to the anything goes acropolis but its still a brilliant rally/place to visit. I loved the way you could just stop in a villiage and ask for some food and the next thing you know the whole town is ariving with food for your meal from every direction, it was so cheap it was criminal.
Monte Carlo is great if you are looking to take in some expensive living experiences, its just up the road from Italy and the French riviera too, so great for holidaying, but it is cold that time of year. I drove a lot of the stages there, but they are very tight and twisty so you cant really go that quickly due to being cautious about oncoming trafic.
Catalunya is based in the bigest tourist trap in spain, i wouldnt take a young family there unless you planned on staying outside the Llorett de Mar area. I drove down to Catalunya in my Impreza this year, the roads down there are incredible. If you want to get in some truly memorable tarmac drives go to Catalunya and hire a good spec car.
Rally GB is a rip off and you are treated like an idiot, it's not what it used to be unfortunately. The last rally i would recomend you spectate on at the moment. You wont be able to get near the stages, never mind drive them.

Thank you very much Mr. Felstead. Thing is, I have friends that live in Finland, and well, said I could call on them at any time (in 6 diff cities). However your glowing review of Acropolis... Hmmmm....

Come on KC, Nasioc meet at Acropolis :)
I'm dead set on getting there, and I'm hearing flights out of London to Greece aren't too hard on the pocket. Having someone willing to give you info about it is great too (Thanks to boothwrx and johnfelstead) :D
