ScoobySport Exhaust part 1

timeattack 01-04-2007 02:37 PM

ScoobySport Exhaust
Could someone please clear something up for me? I am looking to purchase the original Scoobysport exhaust for my Wrx but I am confused. I was always under the impression that the original Scoobysport was made by a company called Hayward and Scott. http://www.daddysscp.com/dcart4/product.php?productid=8&cat=0&page=1
http://www.haywardandscott.co.uk/results.asp?category=13
But this website http://www.scoobysport.com/ says that the original Scoobysport exhaust is made by a company called Janspeed. Could someone please tell me which one is correct before I make my decision and order. Thanks in advance
MtnGoat 01-04-2007 04:17 PM

Hayward&Scott
actually, the original makers of the original Scoobysport muffler are now called Hayward&Scott
just purchased a classic Scobby Style 'backbox' from them a few months ago for my RS
www.haywardandscott.com
I belive Janespeed bought the scooby name
But the original makers are Hayward&Scott now

You wont find anybody in the states selling ScoobySport unless it is used

Happy with my muffler
sounds awesome- no other sound like it for my car

I emailed them via thier site and they got back to me in 12hrs
Worked with Ian the manager

Thanks very much, so did you order it from the UK and if so how much did you pay for it?
Unabomber 01-04-2007 06:55 PM

H&S is the 'o gee, Janspeed is who makes them now.

yup. ordered it from the UK
got it on sale for about 350.00 US
they charge a lot for shipping though 200
but got it overnight
you might try to ask about cheaper shipping
I didn't expect it to be "overnighted"

Thanks for the replies guys. Are the Scoobysport mufflers all there cracked up to be? I've always wanted one because they supposedly sound better than any other, and perform really well, but is all this true or are they comparable to an HKS or Greddy or some other brand?
bluelinescooby 01-04-2007 11:53 PM

^^^Yes..... everyone has different opinions, but I've not heard anything bad about any H&S stuff as far as sound goes...... wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine.....

Owning a N/A car I don't notice a whole lot in the performance area
but the muffler hangs right up and they gave me bolts and gasket
taken the car on back roads and no scraping
The sound will be different between the 2.5RS and a WRX but on my car just hooked up to the stock midpipe (for now) has a nice and deep burble and really growls when you get on it with an ocassional pop between gears.
I don't know how well you can tell from the photo but it is crafted very well and I think the company H&S has a bit more expierence in making applications for Subarus.

More of an investment and owning a bit of motorsport history

Going to a RallyX this weekend
if I get a chance I wiil post a vid of what my car sounds like

timeattack, H & S is the original maker of Scoobysport exhausts. Daddysscp.com is the ONLY dealer of the H & S products. Rich from Daddysscp.com still markets them under the Scoobysport name although they really are the H & S manufactured products. The "Scoobysport" mufflers are all that they are cracked up to be. I've had the single tip, dual tip, the Scoobyworld Afterburner Vortex, and I can't get enough of the sound. I switched to all Cobb TBE, but have switched back to a special 3" H & S Rallye style muffler. I've got sound clips of all the different styles. Let me know if you want them.
Vahnatai 01-09-2007 02:18 AM

Mine. I need to get rid of it though because I need 3" exhaust.

Scoobysport CB, DP, and UP.

ChrisM623 01-09-2007 09:56 AM

Sounds like a really nice exhaust.
passion4JC 01-09-2007 01:42 PM

timeattack,
I e-mailed you the links...let me know if you received them. PM me your e-mail address...
Justin911 02-22-2007 10:41 PM

i am bringing back the thread.... haha

i was wondering where in the US I can get a scoobysport for my 2005 2.5 RS... my birthday is in May, and i think this is what I am going to ask for.. doesn't mean i will get it, BUT i may get a good chunk of change to help me buy it. :P

vroom VROOM Pop vroom!!!!!!!!!!!
passion4JC 02-22-2007 11:20 PM

For a new one, www.daddysscp.com is the only place in the U.S. Rich usually has an order coming from the U.K. (Hayward and Scott) every 30-40 days. This is the cheaper way compared to getting it from H &S directly.

Used, look it up on the Private For sale threads.
Justin911 02-23-2007 12:55 AM

hmm used might be a good idea.... what do you think? used or new? personally i would always go new, BUT in this case, used might be the way to go..... thanks for the site though.. I will check it out!
PA04STI 02-23-2007 01:27 AM

I bought a Heyward & Scott Afterburner Vortex axleback:

Sound clip of it on WRX (not my car) doesn't do it justice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG1Wrwtr2Yc

It is a quality peice and very rare now I see even Daddysscp doesn't sale it anymore...Hell looks like Heyward & Scott doesn't either...Yeah

Matt
Justin911 02-23-2007 02:11 AM

nice... my neighbor has one on his wrx.... they are so sick, plus they really make the subaru sound so good! he got his at rallyperformance.com, unfortunately they don't sell it anymore.. hmm

saddysscp still sells the scoobysport single tip exhaust which is the one that i am looking at. I priced one out shipped to my address for $599.87, so in a nutshell 600 bucks! OUCH..
passion4JC 02-23-2007 08:03 AM

It's still worth it. If you want a louder one, get the Rallye version. Daddy's can sell it to you. Just contact him. I got mine specially made with 3" piping.

Rallyperfromance.com doesn't sell it anymore.
Justin911 02-23-2007 01:51 PM

i figgured it was worth it. i want an authentic hayward and scott exhaust so i figgure since rallyperformance doesn't sell it anymore, daddysscps is the place to get it...

yea... the rallye is too loud for me i think. i don't want to be crazy loud.. the single tip is loud enough and it turns heads! hehe
Justin911 02-23-2007 01:54 PM

double post
Dutch Scooby lover 02-23-2007 02:55 PM

Scoobysport and Hayward & Scott had an argument, mostly about delivery times and weld quality i believe.
So SS want to Janspeed with the design, and now they make the Scoobysport exhausts.
H&S markets exactly the same exhaust under their own name.

I have had them both (H&S one, then a Invidia, then a Janspeed Scooby.)
I must say the original one was the best sounding one, lower tone, and a bit more sound, the new one isn't bad, but the classic one is the best.
Justin911 02-23-2007 05:27 PM

thanks so much for your imput!!! that was one of the questions i was going to ask... how different is the newer one.... haha

is there a price difference between the H&S to the newer one? My other question, is how will it fit on a 2005 2.5 RS? will it fit up correctly or not???
Dutch Scooby lover 02-23-2007 06:18 PM

I can't comment about fitment, as we never had the same models in Europe.
For example, we only had a 2 liter turbo and a 1.8 NA.
Something like a 2.5 RS isn't sold here.

Pricing hasent changed in Europe, maybe because Scoobysport buys them cheaper, then makes a bigger name-brand pricerise.
I think the H&S ones are more bang for the buck, and Scoobysport/Jspeed ones are more "paying for a brandname"
Justin911 02-23-2007 07:59 PM

ahh ok that makes sense..... thanks.... do you have any sound or video of both?
Dutch Scooby lover 02-23-2007 08:34 PM

Nope, Im sorry.
Dont have a digicam, just an old Nikon camera, with no sound, not even a digital one.
But trust me, the old one , or the one still made by them, under their own (Hayward & Scott) name, is the one you want, perfect rumble, not to noisy, but not too quiet
Justin911 02-23-2007 08:35 PM

yea... thanks for the help Dutch! appreciate it big time
