Leo,,,,If your talking USDM WRX to JDM STi,,,not easily.I tried.
Welding is required as the adjustor is part of the seat base which are not swappable left to right.

And if I change the base of a USDM STi to the ver8 seats?
| Leonardo | 07-14-2004 08:03 AM |
There has to be a way!
Base should be removable.
Anyways, I know a couple of welding shops, just in case.
Anyone else?

I helped my friend do a swap with his JDM seats and his USDM wrx seat base. The swap took a while but we did not have to weld anything at all. However, there is a really high chance you will end up damaging your bolstering especially where the top portion of the seat meets the bottom. Furthermore, after we managed to swap them around, we realised that the driver side seat has several big holes in the fabric as the seat bases on both sides are different. He tried stitching them up, but it still looked ugly. In the end, he placed a black cloth there permanently just to cover the holes. We agreed that it wasn't worth the mod.

Here is the process I have gone through and I have done it now on 3 sets of JDM Ver7/8 seats.
The drivers seat consists of the JDM passenger back and the JDM Drivers seat cushion on a 02 WRX drivers base. There is no need to modify the seat to so this it is a simple unbolt and switch of the cushions.
On the passenger side of the car I left the JDM drivers base and back there and just installed the JDM passenger cushion. You could use a WRX passenger base here as well.

I tried to swap a base from an 02 wrx on to my 04 sti seats, because I bought them with no height adjuster. the previous owner took it to put on his jdm sti seats. The base on a 02 wrx IS DIFFERENT and will not work! unless you hack it together and weld it. The local dealer told me that all 04 bases are the same (wrx, rs, & sti) If you look at an 04 wrx seat it is almost identical to an 04 sti seat. So I purchased a 04 wrx seat and all you have to do is remove the plastic covers, the back part of the seat (held on with 14mm bolts) remover the seat cover and cushion, and install it on the adjustable one. you dont have to mix and match passenger seats. I know where there is an 04 drivers side wrx seat avab. contact me and I will hook up.

Leo is talking about VER7/8 JDM STI seats that idealy only will fit on 02/03 WRX bases.
| JeremyRS | 07-14-2004 02:56 PM |
The guy that I bought my seats from swaped the base from the usdm LF seat to the jdm LF seat. and it was a perfect match. Now I'm stuck with a LF usdm seat with no adjuster, and an 02 wrx adjuster was completely different and wouldnt fit. An 04 wrx adjustable base will work on my seat, so It should on the jdm since the orriginal one worked.....right?

"An 04 wrx adjustable base will work on my seat"
Jeremy yes it will
Leo what Jeremy is saying has nothing to do with your seats,
basically just follow what I did, JDM drivers cushion and JDM passenger seat back go on your 02/03 WRX drivers base, and the JDM passenger cushion can go on your JDM drivers base and back. If you do not want the passenger side to be adjustable then just put the JDM passenger cushion and JDM drivers back on a WRX passenger base. Remeber the JDM drivers seat is the one with the springs.

So, in short- take your V7 JDM passenger seat (U.S. drivers side) and swap the cushions with a 2002 U.S. WRX drivers side. In the end, you should have an adjustable JDM passenger seat (U.S. drivers side) and a non adjustable U.S. WRX drivers side- am I right on this one? If so, time to buy a WRX drivers seat :)

well, i'll throw in my 2 cents worth.
You can't do this swap with:
2003 USDM WRX seats
and a
JDM Ver 7 seat.
An 04 seat base might work...but the 03 didn't/can't casue of the way the back of the seat bolts to the bases.

It seems only the 2002 U.S. seats swap with the V7 (2001) seats

This issue has been beat into the ground...
Some people have been trying to "hack" seats together to either have height-adjustment on the LF seat or on both seats..but they do not turn out perfect. Either the bolstering of the seat bottom gets destroyed (look at the S202 seat in the pics above, doesn't the cushion look a little flat!), or there will be fabric missing on the inside of the seats due to swapping JDM seat cushions from side to side.
The CORRECT way to have JDM Version 7 seats in your USDM WRX (02-03) it to put the JDM driver's seat on passenger side of your car (direct bolt-in), and disassemble your driver's WRX seat, install the JDM passenger seatback with the recline coil attached, and buy an EDM seat cushion for a LHD STi (2001-2002). Only then will you have two PERFECT STi seats with height-adjusment on both sides.
But....you will also have to get the plastic bolt covers for the rear of the seat tracks for your RF(passenger) seat from an RHD STi - they are completely different from a WRX passenger seat.
Just my .02 - but I have two perfect seats...

Any difference with the Version 8 and the 2002 WRX base?
| ProdriveWRC | 07-19-2004 05:33 PM |
I know the seat bases for the V8 seats (all versions - JDM, USDM, EDM, UKDM, etc.) are different than WRX 2002-2003. The seat cushion foam design is completely different - I've heard it's easier to do the seat-base swap with an '04 WRX or STi seat base, but I've never seen the end result in person.
| Stryker | 07-19-2004 05:48 PM |
ok I'll try this. Thanks
| ProdriveWRC | 07-19-2004 06:31 PM |
I know this is the wrong forum, but I have a perfect JDM Ver. 7 passenger seat cushion that I will sell if anyone needs one - some of the plastic clips are gone, but if someone is trying to modify it to fit on a WRX seat base, it's the perfect candidate.

Man I dorked with this for days. My Ver7 seats had different size wire hoops for the boslters. To be done right, welding was needed. I had US 02 seats and JDM Ver7 seats. In the end, I did not fit anyhow and a tall Japaneese man is what 5'6 160 lbs? I am 6'0 and 1890 lbs. Shoulders did not fit and my back did not touch the back of the seat. Shoulder bolsters were too narrow.
I just bought Sparco Torinos. Ergo fit for us wide in the beam, as they say. They match the very well and are more comftrable.

So all this info comes foward AFTER we ordered the seats.
Damn it, damn it all to hell!

This is what I am going to do. If not, I'll have to wear a drivers non adjustable base as Stryker will keep the adjuster from his USDM STi seat for his incoming JDM seat. Since I have a 02 WRX and will have a 04 US STi seats, I'll have to find a donor 04 car :(
We'll see how it turns out!
