Why are people putting on Foglight Covers?
One of the cool things about the WRX is it's foglights. It sets it apart from the RS and in my opinion looks very cool. What is the point of covering them? Is it just to have something on your car that says "STi"? For those that actually rally, it makes sence... but other than that.. I can't think of a reason other than to be a little different.
I'm not knocking those of you that have them. Most of you that have them have very sweet cars. I'm just asking out of curiousity.

Because...
Three weeks after I got my car, I took a rock in my passenger side foglight!
Then I got some new foglights, and mesh covers ;)

Ok, fair enuff. Damn that blows! With the mesh covers you can still use your lights right? I guess I was refering more to some of the solid ones I've seen.

Its just a matter of taste and opinion. I was gonna order the foglights but decided not to. I wanted to have the covers for later, plus save money on buying the lights online/somewhere else.
At first I really didn't like the look of the 2002 without foglights, but now the look has REALLY grown on me. For me, the car looks longer now. The lights help the car have a more curvy look. At times the car does look a bit stumpy. So my mod helps alot.
Also later, I could slap on STI stickers! :)

Foglights are damn expensive so I don't have any covers right now but I'm looking at getting them. I'm not paying $250 for covers though... thats for sure. Probably just get the replicas.

Maybe some people want a sleeper WRX, I would think people use them more for protection.

Catch a rock in your foglite,go price a replacement including an upgraded bulb,Then youl know why we're usin covers.

the solid ones are stupid (no offense to the owners) i'm getting the mesh ones so i can still use my fogs....love the fogs...
| Julian | 09-27-2001 03:58 PM |
(shrug)...when there's no reason for fogs (i.e. no fog worthy of the name where fog lights would do any good), no reason not to run solid covers.
| SubaDan | 09-27-2001 04:59 PM |
my lights don't work. Don't know why they don't so I just covered them up. HEHE Made'em look all perdy
| munkis | 09-27-2001 05:15 PM |
thats exactly why you should buy clear or cf trim, slip over protective headlight and foglight covers from me ;)

I use stomeguards on mine. No difference in light output and you have protection and the looks. At $54 for headlight and foglight guards shipped that's an unbeatable price.

Some people pull the lights out and then put the covers on to save a little weight. Don't think it would be enough to help, but it's thier car. You could also get that 3M Rockgard that sticks right on the glass, doesn't block any light, doesn't show, but is thick enough to protect the light.

Yes, the 2.5RS comes with the foglights here in the states, too. Some people just cover them for protection, and/or to make it look more like the rally car.

I'm not sure about the previous models, but the 2002 doesn't come with fog lights as standard equipment, they cost more....

mesh foglight covers
Do the mesh foglight covers diffuse the light? Are the foglights still bright enough to be functional with the mesh covers on them?
| RBPWRX | 09-29-2001 01:26 AM |
Fogs are still bright, but of course, not as bright without the covers. Covers are replicas from Revolution Motorsports.

Fog covers look [email protected] on GC8 RS'...I just ordered a pair from Dutch555 and installed them last nite. WOW! :D Theyre beautiful :).
I never use my fogs + not many people have them so it sets you apart even more from the other subies out there.

the subie lights aren't exactily fog lights....they're more driving/running lights, they fill in the patches that the low beams miss on the sides of the road, (dont' know abotu the new vers) but the gc8 low beams blow sereous chunks, they have a horrible pattern for seeing the road and anything, so the fog lights give you that extra warning, should there be a deer or something on the side of the road when you drive down abotu to jump in front of you. why you would cover them up w/ a solid cover is beyond me, i would be really screwed without the fog's on my OBS. many times i avoided hitting a deer that i wouldn'tve seen w/o the fog's on.
they dont' help much int he fog. they're not low enough and they'll still shine back in your face, and stuff.
the mesh ones makes sense tho...

my fogs put a glare on my windshield, exactly eye level with me...in otherwords they blinded me, thus I dont use em ;).
