Why Aren't There Any Good Rubber Carpet for Subaru WRX part 1

Why Aren't There Any Good Rubber Carpet for Subaru WRX
I dont get this part. Why aren't there any good carpet for the WRX? The original rubber carpet slides is always out of place. In addition, 3rd party manufacturers always produce non rubber (non all season) type of carpet.

i thought about this same topic...that's why i rather buy some no name brand rubber carpets from an autozone. the optional rubber floor mats are also a joke
02redwagone 01-04-2006 04:40 PM

I like mine. Except for the thawed foot water spilling out. They stay put ok.

Do they fit nicely?

Mine are working perfectly...
AugustusMaximus 01-04-2006 04:52 PM

Mine slide all over too!! drives me bananas!! Do you think a couple long strips of velcro would help?
chaddeus 01-04-2006 05:29 PM

I tried velcro on the subaru all season carpet. No use.

So I assume it did not slide around and fitment is almost perfect?
WRXTuan 01-04-2006 05:52 PM

I got my generic brand heavy duty rubber mats at costco. They do their job :)

I've had the rubber mats in my WRX since day one, and they don't slide an inch. Strange.

Even on the passenger seats?
Even on the passenger seats?

- Charles
As far as I can tell, nope. I've never sat in the passenger seat.

The only reason I can think of the mats not sliding around compared to everyone else, is that I had the carpeted mats in there for a few days, which put little identation holes in the footwell carpet. But the driver's side definitely doesn't move around.
LastResort 01-04-2006 06:08 PM

you are looking for husky floor liners I believe. Mine are on order, I expect them here sometime next week. I've never personally laid eyes on the Subaru version, however my dad has the Chevy truck ones, and they are spectacular. They can hold something like a quart of water. I got them from autoanything.com, and they are the cheapest that I have found. Free shipping, and I found a 10 dollars off coupon on fatwallet.com. Came out to 130 bucks for the front and rear. I know, I know, spendy as hell for floor mats, but I think they are absolutely worth it to prevent that eventual "wet dog" smell that accompanies a car as it moves into a decade of ownership (hey, its a Subaru).

i assume you want rubber mats and not carpet, because carpet usually implies non-rubber.

Ive had the "classic premium rubber mats" shown on weathertech(.)com (sorry, forum won't let me post the URL because im a noob) in my wrx for almost 2 years and i think they're great. really good quality rubber, fits the floor almost perfectly and doesnt slide. they collect a ton of sand and crap and there's amazingly little soilage on the permanent carpet when i shake them out. note that these mats do not have a cutout to fit around the trunk/gas cap lever pod on the floor, but i consider that a feature - they cover the pod so it stays clean too. i highly recommend.

i had the "official" subaru rubber mats first too and i agree they're crap. they slide a lot and dont cover the floor completely.
Pete Holt 01-04-2006 07:30 PM

I thought about getting the www.weathertech.com mats myself and then realized you can get a generic set at sears for $10-$20 that work just as well and can hold more water. I have my driver's mat angled to the left a little to avoid the gas/trunk switch. I have had them for a few weeks and they work great.
armand1 01-04-2006 09:04 PM

A number of people have found that the OEM rubber mats stay in place a lot better if you put them *on top of* the OEM carpet mats.
deputychino 01-04-2006 09:21 PM

The factory carpet floor mats have a hole that clips into place and keeps the mat from sliding forward, the subaru optional all weather floor mats do no have the same hole that allows it to clip into place, so they slide forward under the pedals. The Forester has the clips for the rubber all weather mats, but that's not the case with my WRX. The all weather mats that you buy for the WRX are not the same ones that you buy for the Forester.
hybrid gti 2 01-04-2006 10:07 PM

I have been seeing "husky" floor mats that cover the carpet really well on ebay for like $50 a set.
Tada 01-04-2006 10:17 PM

I put the Rubber mats on top of the carpet ones.
NewShockerGuy 01-04-2006 10:30 PM

I never understood rubber floor mats... my dad swears on them... but I never saw the point..

I don't trample in mud before I get in my car, and in PA since it snows a lot in winter, I "STAMP" my feet before I get in my car, thus only a little wetness is on the bottoms of my feet...lol

Rubber floor mats are heavy too and ugly..lol

I normally carry a couple "bags" so if my shoes are that dirty they go in the bags in the trunk and I have an extra pair of clean shoes in the car...lol

But what ever works right...hahaha

same here, for 3 years 2 months and no problem at all

Mine too, They took alittle time to form to the floor but once they did they dont slide around or anything. I tried to put mine on top of the carpet mats but it stuck up too high and made using the clutch difficult. I might try it again now that they have formed better to the floor.

Sounds good but passengers do not care about those. Wet shoes, they just step in. Dirty muddy shoes, they just step in.

That's the configuration I got OEM from the dealer. I haven't had any of them move at all. Including the passenger seat where my girlfriend usually sits. The mats in her car are always up under the pedals and in the way. If she doesn't even push the mats in my car they're not going to go anywhere.

Ok.. neither have I or anyone I knew.. but as the owner/driver of the car, your passengers should abide by your rules if they care about getting a ride.

The problem with that is... It looks good on photo but when you actually get it, it sucks. Its not so custom fit as you see on those photo and the alignment might be off.

after checking out for more information, I got into this website http://www.huskyliners.com/subaru.html and viewed their PDF file. It seems that thye are pretty good. I think I am going to get one for myself

I'll let you guys know tommorow, they should be here by then. But I've seen this brand before, and looks that good. I hope :D

Those little hole clips don't do jack. It's a habit now that the first thing I do when I sit down in the driver's seat is to pull the damn mats back from underneath the pedals. It's so ingrained in me, that last time I got in to drive my wife's (non-subaru) car, I reached down to pull the mat back without even thinking.

Target >>> $20 >>> Got them the first week I got the car. Look good and work perfectly.

SAve money for more important things. ;)

Well kiddies, got the husky floor liner in yesterday and "installed" them last night. Made out of a pretty firm material, more plastic than rubber, but not too slick. The backside has a number of pointed spikes that seem to hold the mat in place very well. The fronts fit like they were practically OEM. The only fitment issue with them is that I got a bit ambitious trimming the cut out for the trunk/gas popper. And that is partially my part, as I just followed the line they had rather than measuring. It turned out to be about 1/2 inch to wide for my taste, but not to bad. Hell, it even has a spot for the stock mat retainer, so you don't have to remove that to put the pads in. very happy :D The rear however, do not fit as advertised. Not happy  I've contacted autoanything.com who will contact husky and find out what the issue is. (BTW they have very short wait time on the 1800 number that is included in the shipping email, I was suprised for an online retailer.) I am hoping that they have not updated the catalog and have a proper rear mat for the 05. If not I can't decide if I really want to cut a 60 dollar mat to fit, or just send it back and buy some cheapies for the rear, considering how infrequently they are used.
