Why debadge trunk?
Maybe I'm just bored, but I've been wondering why people debadge the Subaru from the trunk. Personally I like the way it looks. In comparison to most other cars, it looks like it is part of the styling instead of merely stuck to the side like an afterthought. Just my opinion anyway.
I don't think debadging looks bad - I'm just wondering people's reasons. Flame away if you want....

More of a cleaner look.
Just a matter of opinion.

Well I wasnt sure about debadging... and i thought, if I dont like the way it looks, I can get the I-M-P-R-E-Z-A badging to stick back on.... but the bare trunk looks so clean, its nice.

Those letters are a pain to wash and wax around too.

JDM style baby! Keep the WRX logo and replace the big Subaru with a little one right of the key hole!

As I stare out my window...
All good reasons, thanks! I wish I could take them off and easily put them back on just to see. I think debadging would make the rear a bit more aggressive and "meaner"(for lack of better term).
However, for some reason I only think that would look good with wider tires/wheels, maybe 245's. The trunk area seems to large without the badges to break it up. Large tires would even it up making the entire rear simple and "meaner."
Anybody have pictures to confirm this. Sorry, apparently I have a lot of time on my hands at work; sitting here staring at my car all day...:)

Another Reason
Some people have also been encouraged to debadge because vandals have been ripping off WRX badges. When they do this, they usually use a screwdriver or something and damage the paint.
Personally, I like the debadged look but worry about getting towed. I have been towed once already and if the tow-truck driver had not recognized my car as an AWD, he may have really damaged it.

Some people just do it cus the like it :D I'm still debating whether I should debadge the trunk. Some say its too plain like something is missing where the subaru letters are suppose to be

like kahuna said, people have been trying to get WRX badges, here is a pic where someone unsuccesfully tried.

hey that's the pic of my car. it happed sunday night I found the rest of the letters in the parking lot at work. I went to a body shop and they quoted me $300+ for them to fix. but i did it myself and it cost me $35 for a new badge and 4.5 hrs to prime paint and buff those scraches out damn kids. I'm all for debadging now.

Sorry to see that Jakester. I never thought of that as a reason to debadge, you'd like to think you wouldn't have to worry about that.
We could steal Civic and Neon badges...and put them on our cars...yeah, that would show them...or something....

For much the same reason as other guys:
1. Liked the clean look
2. got tired of picking out pieces of wax out of the lettering
3. like the 'stealthy' aspect so that most ppl won't recognize what make it is and just stare :D

cops
i never thought about this until it was a problem...
cops don't know what kind of car it is. that makes them very angry when they pull you over because they have to sit there like the guy in the matrix commercial..."ahh...ahhh, it's a blueish, silverish..."
a cop ended up screaming at me for the debadging and gave me a ticket for something that he would have let me go on, had he been able to call in the vehicle type. what is that computer in the squad car for anyways...?? when i see him in court i'll be sure to remind him, "by the way, it's a SUBARU"...

Thanks for all the input. You've really helped me look at this in a new way. For now I'm leaving them on. I'm a bit apprehensive about taking off things that can't be bolted back on easily.;)
I'm starting to like the look however. I do like the JDM look you guys mentioned. I checked out the 3D interactive thing at the Subaru Japan site. There's a thread about it right now in this forum I think, check it out if you haven't. Warning - May cause rapid heartrate and lightheadedness:D
Thanks again,
Brandt

I feel the need to quote Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction:
