wot no gravel wheels?

is it just me or are 15" gravel rally wheels a nightmare to find in the US?
I read that someone fitted 15x7 Team Dynamics wheels on a WRX...not sure of the ET
anyone tried that?
I'm wondering about brake clearance on later models...
any comments and help would be appreciated

We use Team Dynamics ProRally 1's purcahsed from Moberly in CO on our 2004 WRX PGT car. They seem pretty decent. Not as tough as Speedlines or Compomotives though. Very nice wheels for the money. We run a 49mm offset. Most people run a 53mm offset. I think Moberly runs 47mm offsets.
I like em.

speedline 2118's are what we use on Burnsie.
solid as 'ell
you can hit just about anything and not bend em.

I use the Comopomotive TH2 on my TSD Car. Theyre just fine for that work. Although after replacing the pads I have to use 3mm spacers cause the caliper is now too wide. (2-pot USDM '02)

You can also grind down a few mm off the outside of US 2-pot WRX calipers to clear with the Compomotive TH2 15x7.

+1 for compomotives. Expensive but worth it if you're going to put a hurtin on your wheels.

Personally I'd run the Team Dynamics that JC's got, they're a bit cheaper than the speedlines and don't really look like they're much weaker. I think they were around $160ea last I checked.
I run some pep boys wheels on my rally car and they've held up pretty well to some hits that I thought may have bent them. I'm sure eventually they'll bend/break but most wheels will.

thanks for the feedback folks...
I used the Comp TH's on my Pug 106Rallye back in the UK but that was 10 years ago. They're a bit pricey over here now!
http://photobucket.com/albums/v715/AlbaScoob/my%20old%20motors/?action=view¤t=Pug106Rallye.jpg
straight from the dealer before the cage etc was fitted...
so it looks like there's a market for a US manufacturer to produce a sub $200 rally wheel!
if anyone has the cash/contacts I have the automotive design/CAD modelling expertise!
pm me!
thanks for your help

We run them cuz I am financially challanged. :) Personally, I'd run Compos or Speedlines if'n I had the funds.
Yes, I paid $160/wheel shipped to me for the TD's. Couldnt touch that price for the others. But, I already bent a TD (although it was a hard hit).

yes I can say it...I'm tight too!
I liked the TH's. That wheel is bomb proof. I recall puncturing at about 70mph on gravel and continuing driving flat out for another 25miles...no damage at all...
So I've got the guy at TD on the case looking for whats they have in stock.
It would be nice to have them for the road rally in two weeks time out in West MI...the stage miles wont be fast but they will probably be gravel!

Yeah It will be "Brisk", and there will definately be gravel, I'd expect from 50 to 70%.

JC-
Any hit that bends a sti control arm qualifies as a pretty hard hit in my book. Bending a wheel on that makes sense.
Don't you think the difference in price that allows you to buy 6 wheels for the price of 4 comps to be worth it? I'd rather have 6 wheels that may bend a hair easier and have spares than 4 that still may bend and have no spares.
The pep-boys wheels I'm running are discontinued, they're a 5-split spoke design that are pretty beefy.
Jay

Yes Jay, that was a good lick for sure. We went back into the notes & went over it in my head with Josh. It was called out as a L5>4-. But it REALLY seemed like a L4+>3 !OC. The Off Camber part coupled with being in 3rd gear caught us out cuz when I realized we were too fast & didnt have enough time/torque to rotate the car enough. I simply didnt have time to shift, only to gas it...
All that said, we estimated the intial impact with the RR into the frozen bank to be about 45mph~ and that pivoted the front in a little harder angle at about 35mph (+ the speed of rotation). We think, anyway.
So, being that the RR did NOT bend the wheel, and the RF blew the tire off the bead, they held up well. The rim did NOT bend in a fashion that would strand us on stage. Had the CA not bent the way it did, we couldve driven it out. The wheel actually bent sideways, but the bead area is not bent over at all. In other words, it looks 100% perfect, til you spin it on a balancer, then it shows a slight wobble at speed.
The tire was also perfect, simply off the bead.
I guess if you do this, the wheel should be a little tweaked...

ANd yes, that was my intention (buying 6 for the cost of 4) so that's what I did. Now I only have 5. :)
Man, I hope this new deal works out...
Press relase forthcoming this week hopefully...

Many of the regular detroit region competitors will be there I'm sure. ( at least I'll be there w/ my co-driver). Flitz from the board will be there too... The early entry ends saturday, and the start order should come out today or tomorrow......
This is a brand new event in the detroit region so there is really no telling what it will be like. I can guess, cause Chris (rallymaster) is a driver and runs rally tires, but only brisk and gravel were mentioned in the flyer.....

because I've seen two seperate instances of the wheels stress rupturing while cars were on stage. Not on my car, thank goodness, but it was enough for me to retire my revolutions (they're now my emergency spares).

ignore this if you already know!
but for the Midwest peeps check out FrisbyTire in Chicago for Team Dynamic wheels. Cheaper than the $150-160 others mentioned.
Also, if you need gravel tires move fast because Falken are off loading RS-01D's for $60-65 new! (obviously)
only about 30 left when I called them direct...actually that tip off came from this site...worth the search i guess!
move it or loose it
hope thats of some use to you money saving rallyists!
