would it be cheezy or stupid or.. even.. the r word
To put only one Recaro in my Impreza?
I'm only putting it in because of terrible back pains Im getting from stock seats. Also keep in mind that I'm only 18 years old and not exactly loaded.
I am planning on getting 1 black/black Recaro Sport seat, and at 700 bucks a pop plus install and custom brackets (like i said i'm having these damn back pains so i'm having some custom fab'd stuff done) I can't afford a second.
So would you consider it "the r-word" to have only one racing seat?

Race seats are sick:D
I want them bad and dont care about getting 2 really as i dont care about my passenger really so screw em.. But on the other hand it looks so sick with 2 of them..
Can ya get cheaper seats and get 2 instead?

I don't see anything wrong with racing seats. Every race-car driver has 'em. The "r" word shouldn't even be brought up when dealing with seats unless they have neons in them and say type-r all over them. But Recaro's are really nice. And the seats are gonna be functional for you. And functional is good (is there a bad type of functional?). :)

one is cool...just get another one later! :D

Gotta agree there.
I've seen cars with only one recaro and it looks FINE.
Don't worry. I don't plan on putting two in my car either. Most people (i.e the ol' lady) don't like racing seats. They have always traveled on STOCK seats, and therefor are only used to those. And they find the racing seats uncomfortable. sooooo, brings me back to the point. Leave your passenger seat, who cares. You'll make your passengers more comfortable, and save yourself some cash.
Cheers

It would never be ricey in my opinion, but it would be sort of cheesy if you got one super duper yellow or crazy red seat in a otherwise black interior. One black / black in a black interior will probably not even get too noticed.

Thats cool, I'm glad that you guys feel this way!
I can't get cheaper seats. The Recaro is just TOO comfortable/functional. I sat in a sparco Evo2 and didn't like it at all compared to the recaro. I swear I fell asleep in the Recaro! (altho that could be bad for driving :P)
Also, thinking about it.. the purpose of race seats is to hold you in place, right? So unless you have a co-driver, and I don't plan on rallying anytime soon, what the point of keeping them firmly planted? I mean, isn't that what oh ***** bars are for??? :D

anyone know where I can find some nice REcaro SRD seats for like around 400 ?
| RideHardIntoMyUndy's | 04-06-2002 01:44 PM |
youv got a good reason only to get one, plus its your car so screw what other people think.
| Sam_P | 04-06-2002 02:02 PM |
It's not rice. The fact you want Black/Black as opposed to a Red/Rainbow/TypeR seat is good testament that it is NOT rice.
| Schleppy | 04-06-2002 02:04 PM |
I wouldn't worry about it man, I have seen so many different kinds of cars with one race seat in it (Honda's, VW's, Acura's), it looks cool, and like everyone said, screw the passenger :D
If I were you I would also consider looking at Cobra seats. They have a few different models that are quite affordable, and you could get two of those... I have two Cobra Imola II's for my rabbit race/show car, I love them, but they unfortuneatly were not cheap (they are Kevlar Composite and weigh almost nothing).
Whatever you do man, don't worry about it looking R*ce, it will be far from it :)

Nope, no pics yet man, sorry! I will add you to the list of people who want pics :-)
It should be done (paint and body work) next week, and the custom roll cage should be going in too, then just have to iron out the bugs (16v swap, so there will be a few :D )

I was having the same problems with my seats...so I thought. The real problem was my bed! It wasn't giving me enough support. I got so sick and tired of it that I started sleeping on the floor. OMG!! My back never felt so good. Now it's not a pain in the back to drive my car. *pun*:p So instead of the seat I got a new bed. *not the floor anymore*

Where did your back hurt?
I am having a similar problem. Of course I agravated mine by going to the gym last time.
But I have a pinching in the lower left of my back when I put in the clutch, do you think better seats would help? I also haven't gone to the gym in over 2 weeks, so its either my bed or my car

Speedsin,
Sounds like you are missing lumbar support. Are you reaching for the clutch just a little bit? Im sure a seat would help both of you guys...I want to gwet the Sparco Milano's. Those are amazing seats.

Word of warning Dcoty, I heard that the Milano's don't hold up well over time... Apparently the bolsters wear very quickly....
They may have updated them, but I would check into it first...

My pain was in the lower left side also. I hated shifting for the longest time. I hurt mine at the gym also....real bad a long time ago. It got better with drugs/time/lots of stretching, but I was never a 100%. Because of that I kept on hurting my back. Until the day I got rid of my bed.

So anyone?

I thought I would back my seat up a bit so I wasn't hugging the wheel, but so that I could heal toe easily and still have my arms at a slight bend at 10 and 4 on the wheel. This is the time when it hurts the most to put in the clutch.

My back pain is ONLY from my seats. When I sit in them I have to lean the seat way back or my head hits the ceiling.
The people I talked to about custom fab'd brackets claim 2" shaved off of the height of the seat.. that doesn't sound alot.. but if you sit in your car and think of 2 inches lower.. well its a bigger dif than one might think.
I can't wait to get my seat. Now I just have to find it. 4-6 weeks for shipping.. arghh!! Someone around here's gotta have it in stock!

I don't think a single racing/sport seat looks very good without a matching set, but it is more practical if the passengers don't like the discomfort. Plus its cheaper and saves you $$ too. So whatever you want to do. Personally i want high performance seats that are reasonably comfy and look good as a pair so i'm still gunning for those brass ring Sti reclinables :D

Schleppy,
Thanks for the warning! Ill keep that in mind. Does anyone know about the sparco Torinos'? Those are my second choice. seats look so good and the support and comfort they give is unbeatable.
Dan Coty
PS: Ive nly driven with one-piece 100% fiberglass buckets before, with a foam sheet behind my back, and it was still comfy!

I've sat in a Sparco Torino, and honestly i didn't like the feel at all, not compared to the Recaro's anyway. They felt too thick and cushiony and i didn't really feel solidly planted in the seat. Maybe because it was new as well i didn't feel comfy.

Hey, I was looking into the milano's too but could someone look up on this bolster issue? I'd also consider the torino's but they're so much more expensive and I'm basically earning a little above minimum wage right now. :(
