1. bmw-330xi/335xi

None of those will ever happen. Sorry.

Wow, it'd be hard to come up with an unlikelier list, unless it included the Cugnot Steam Tractor, the Tatra T87, and the Delahaye T165 Figoni et Falaschi V12.

Didn't honda just put together a Civic type R s1600 homogulation (or was it n2/3?)
I'd just like to see the following teams/mfgs field a pair of cars of one brand or another:
subaru
mitsubishi
Ford
PSA (2-3 cars, I heart R5 turbos)
VAG (Audi, SEAT, VW, Skoda, I don't care)
Suzuki
Toyota/Nissan/Honda *1 (I realize they are different mfgs I just want one of the big 3 asian companies in the game)
Hyundai/Kia *1 (I liked the Accent WRC02 and it would be nice to see a Korean company in the game with some seriousness)
all those teams with 2 paid drivers! how could it be any better unless they were doing 400-500 kms with night stages and the safari?

The R5 is a Renault vehicle, which has nothing to do with PSA Peugeot Citroen.

I don't think Audi will make a return as a manufacturer for a long, long time. They've put too much (as they should) into their Le Mans program.

mitsu is said to come back with the factory backed team in 08. think the evo X will look bad ass in a WRC version.
i really want to see Audi back in the game though. it pisses me off to see the commercials for the Q7 with the flash back to the early 80's and the WRC. sure you introduced AWD into the WRC circuit and you lay that claim for advertising purposes but get back in the game the same way u lay claims to always winning the 24hrs of lemans.

4x% is not owned. It is called having a controlling minority share.
Nissan owns like 17-19% of Renault as well....
Heck most all of the car manufacturers either partially own or are partially owned by someone else...

Toyota and Nissan were both had top level teams in the 1980's, but that was before the big money and AWD started to come into play. Quite frankly the only reason for any manufacturer to support a WRC level factory team is for the advertizing it provides. Not very many car manufactures can sell cars because of their rally heritage (even though Audi does and it has been active in years ). Most consumers are more interested in touring cars, F1 or NASCAR so that's were most car companies put their efforts.
What I would like to see is more cars capable of competing with the EVOs and Impreza's on the North American rally circuit. We need more real AWD small cars. Maybe in a few years we'll start to see some older BWM 330xi/335xi's and Lexus IS250's being caged and raced.

Nope. Those two are independent companies.
Also, FWIW, Renault has a majority share in Nissan (44%, which in Japan is enough to be considered a majority, due to regulations requiring 2/3rds on votes) and Nissan has a 15% of non-voting shares in Renault. And don't forget, Charles Ghosen is the CEO of both companies.

Nissan had had plans to expand to a 17% share 2 years ago.
The motorsports and marketing in Nissan are operated under a semi-autonomous department in which Ghosn only had a total $ amount say not what it is spent on.
Plus Carlos said he didn't want to be in F1 unless they kept winning and wanted Renault to go to a less expensive form of motorsport.
It must just be the French government that has investment in Renault if not PSA directly. I could swear there is some sort of convoluted link there.

No.
Toyota and Nissan were both had top level teams in the 1980's, but that was before the big money and AWD started to come into play.
Toyota had a program into the late 1990s with the Celica ST165, 185, 205 and WRC Corollas. The WRC Corollas also happened to become probably the most successful privateer WRC car ever, chalking up lots of victories in European national series. They also have the distinction of being the only quality factory team ever run by a driver.
Nissan was never really a force to be reckoned with. They ran the Sunny for a few years in the 90s, but it was pretty hopeless.

it's about time to understand that production line models, awd or not, have nothing to do with actual WRC efforts. of course, those who follow the WRC know that :)
Suzuki is developing the car, and we may see some trial runs some time next year. Mitsu is in a money-saving mode, but there have been string rumors, that Mitsu will run a M2 team next year, as their 2005 WRC car were available for rent throughout the entire year.
Renault/Nissan are on a strict money-saving diet, they even have stopped the S2000 project, that looked promising in the beggining. The company has stated they concentrate their effort on F1.
Recently Fiat stated, that in case the S2000 formula won't be succesful enough, they might go for a full WRC development programme.
S2000 may be the chance to see new manufacturers enter, as it is more cost-effective. Fiat has already won the European championship and the International Rally Challenge with it's Fiat Punto S2000. Peugeot is back with a full factory effort in S2000, choosing to develop Peugeot 207. Plus, Toyota and VW (to precise - their subsidary companies) have developed their versions of S2000 - the Corolla and the Polo. Three of these have already debuted in Europe, but Corolla will make it's debut on rally GB, driven by Alister Mcrae.

I'd love to see hyundai and toyota come back into WRC, toyota left because they caught caught cheating and conveniently had to focus on F1 the year they came back.
I'd also like to see mazda come into the fray.
Citroen and Peugeot are owned by the same parent company, and why they decided to pull back is beyond me, citroen is STILL kicking ass without a factory team.
the C4 will be interesting, it looks smaller than the current generation of cars, and I think the rest of the manufacturers will opt for a smaller car once the c4 starts to haul ass like the GC8s back in the day.
BMW is too refined for WRC... I don't see them entering in such a gritty ungentlemanly sport such as rally.
Lexus IS toyota, Acura IS honda. I doubt you'll see either of them come in again though. Toyota has it's piece of pie in the truck/nascar deal and F1, Honda has it's piece in F1
VW would be interesting to see in WRC, a golf or a Jetta would suit the mix well.
RAlly is starting to gain strength in north america, with a touch of it in the Xgames, it's starting to reach wider audiences, which is a good thing. You can only watch oval racing for so long.

I dont know where you get your information, but subaru and mitsubishi sell alot of cars because of their rally hertiage. Everytime you read a article about the Evo or Wrx you see rallycar at least 2 times in each article. Ford Europe seems to think that wrc is a viable motorsport to advertise the Focus "big seller". WRC is a great platform to promte a car/brand.

I said "not very many". There is only a limited market for "rally-bred" cars in North America so only a few manufacturers will fill that niche. Subaru Mitsubishi and to some extent Audi and Ford.
