WRC style extractor for hood part 1

STiShawn 05-14-2003 09:44 AM

WRC style extrator for hood
Ok, follow me on this one gang...

On the WRC cars the heat extractor above the radiator (NOT the hood scoop) is the part Im looking for...does anyone make an aftermarket piece for this that is NOT molded into a hood already?
Im just looking for the extrator shape itself.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
STiShawn 05-14-2003 09:50 AM

the area between "subaru" and the hood scoop, thats what Im lookin for!

A company named L'aunsport makes them. I know Z1 Performance can order them, not sure about what other vendors carry it.

STR8OUT,,youve got a front mount intercooler right? One of the guys here on Nascioc posted that with his topmount the temps actually went up in the engine and intercooler area with this installed.Had facts to back it up too.I wanted one till i read that.Very nice look.

WRC hood vent and TMIC
I posted my experience with the vent and a stock TMIC. Not good! Needless to say, may rainguard is permanently in place unless I ever get a FMIC (doubtful.) Basically, the faster you go, the hotter the IC gets, because the heat from the vent goes straight into the scoop. Insert the rainguard-- presto, IC temps drop to near ambient temperature.

does it come with a rain guard?

what about "WRX Wide Body Kit " ? more photo, details on kit?
Handsdown 05-15-2003 10:32 PM

TMIC temps going up makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

those reverse scoops are designed so the airflow creates lower pressure right above the vent, sucking the hot engine bay air out the vent into a little bubble that, in that design, happens to be DIRECTLY infront of the OEM scoop, feeding all the hot air that came from around the engine directly into the intercooler.

if i had a server i would make a diagram in paint and post it. think of a big bubble right over the reverse vent, getting pushed into your scoop.

a better design is the cusco hood...

the vents are directed away from the hoodscoop and are also located over the heads of the cylinders, which on the WRX translates to your turbo over cylinder 3.

three cheers for cusco!

STR8OUT, could you elaborate on your comments? I recall there was a thread about problems w/ gimmiegears.....

And has anyone actually got that prova hood?? Input?
WRX Ver.7 05-16-2003 06:11 PM

I have the Launsport hood vent. It is a cool piece. i also have a FMIC. I just recently ordered the Prova hood from GimmieGears. I cannot wait to get it. It is the 1st one they made and the one they had on display at the Rim of the World Rally.
NeoGeo 05-20-2003 09:11 PM

Cool. Let us know how it turns out.

got the typical questions for you though (im sure you did the research already :))

this is a carbon fiber hood right? Do you know the density of the weave? Full carbon fiber or fiberglass backing? Weight? thnx!
NeoGeo 05-21-2003 01:48 PM

As per Gimmiegears' website, they're only making FG version right now. CF is coming later, I guess when they have the oven finally constructed (you know what I mean if you followed the whole Gimmie vs. Pkzero thread ;) )
WRX Ver.7 06-13-2003 12:10 AM

Got the hood in today. It looks awsome. The craftmanship is excellent. I will post pics tomorrow of the hood.

MadRex: that was partially my fault on shipping. Lack of $$ for a couple of days.:(

SubyDoobyDoo 06-15-2003 10:51 PM

Are the little holes on the sides of the hood for hood pins? Can you order a hood without them?

Looks tiiiiiiight, can't wait to see it painted.
WRX Ver.7 06-15-2003 11:08 PM

Yes, those are for hood-pins. The hood comes without the pin holes. Those are set for the Sparco slide type hood pins.
NeoGeo 06-16-2003 10:30 AM

Cool. Please keep us updated on the hood's fitment...and would it be possible to show us the back side of the hood? Thanks,

p.s. Did it come with that wood box? That's awesome packaging if it did!

Any idea how long before you have it painted and installed? I told Charlene I wanted to see it on a silver WRX but blue would be nice too..

turner 06-30-2003 10:58 PM

...how about a reverse hood scoop with the heat extractor you want?
NeoGeo 07-01-2003 12:50 AM

WRX ver.7, Nice pic! Looks like your paintshop did a good job...I guess it's the digicam but the paint look "extra metallic" somehow. Anyway, pls post a pic (or two :)) when you get it installed.

If you can take a close shot at the edge of the hood that'll be wonderful...wanna see how well it fits.

Also, can you still use that cloth/foam cover on the inside of the OEM hood?
02wrx999 07-01-2003 02:22 AM

does anybody have that drop in reverse vent in an rs hood, and can you get it painted, cause if i get a fmic i would want to get an rs hood and put in that vent i think it would look sweet and then it wouldnt draw hot air into the engine. thanks.

I have also ordered the Prova replica hood from GimmeGears. Although I haven't received mine, yet, I will say this--they are AWESOME to deal with. Nice, responsive, and willing to answer your questions--quick shipping tooo (especially considering they make them and then ship them). So far my expereience with them has been nothing but good.

I'll let you know more on the hood when I get it and get it installed.

Here she is. This thing is friggin awsome. Perfect fit all the way around. No guess work involved. Just bolt back in place and close the hood and your done. Thanks to the Gimmie Gears crew and also to Charlene.http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=385443

How big is that hood scoop opening? Is it taller/longer than stock?
