2005 ceter console install
I have a 2002 WRX and want the center console from the 2005. My car only has one cup holder :furious: My wife saw the 2005 and want to put her drink down.........I want to know how hard is the install . I know the parking brake got move what else is req.
mcowger 08-12-2005 01:12 AM

Well, for one, the 2005 center console has the automatic climate control, which you dont have...it will be nearly impossible to transplant. Also, the 05 console is at a slightly different angle than 02-04. Good luck, you'll need it!!
scrmblr2 08-12-2005 01:31 AM

I dont think they are interchangable. Just buy a new subie:)

NO I talking the part in between the driver and passenger seats where the cups are but since you mentioned the HVAC controls maybe I will change that too
subieworx 08-12-2005 09:37 AM

Won't fit. Completely different design.
DrD 08-12-2005 10:15 AM

I bet the 2005 RS center console would work - it still has the manual climate control like the pre-05 WRX, so you wouldn't have to worry about that.

As long as the cables are the same length ans such.
mcowger 08-12-2005 12:19 PM

Wont work, they also all have dif mounting points, and the whole dash (which the center lower console attaches to) is at the wrong angle. It will not fit without major modification.
V5-STi 08-12-2005 02:06 PM

You will need the whole outer console; all inner silver panels, inc. the HVAC controls - which incidentally have EXACTLY the same wiring harness - ; all brackets to mount to transmission tunnel and centre dash as well as the upper central vents....not sure if i've forgotten any thing there.

Also, how is the location of the handbrake different ??
subieworx 08-12-2005 02:08 PM

Isn't it on the other side of the console?
DrD 08-12-2005 03:04 PM

I figured you would have to replace everything from the dash down - so the vent and vent trim piece, the trim around the radio, the whole center console (along the floor), the trim pieces around the shifter, and the e-brake handle (the last one could be tricky if it doesn't use the same mounting points, or points which already exist on the older cars. (I didn't understand what you meant by the wrong angle, since the center console would have to go in it's entirety anyway) - I have no idea what's under the trim around the vents as far as mounting points, but I am sure it could be done if someone set their mind to it.
V5-STi 10-24-2005 05:37 PM

Did you get anywhere with this ???
I am doing this on my RHD car at the moment.....
For you pre-05 USDM owners, who do not wish to move the e-brake handle, why not buy the UK/JDM e-brake cover panel, which keeps the e-brake where it is ??
ATX25RS 10-24-2005 07:52 PM

that is what i was going to say.....would it be technically on the same side as the 02-04's?
V5-STi 10-28-2005 06:59 PM

On the UK/JDM cars, the e-brake stays on the same side as the USDM 02-04 cars :)
franke3c 10-28-2005 07:14 PM

Is it possible to buy UK/ JDM parts from US subaru dealership?
Is it possible to buy UK/ JDM parts from US subaru dealership?
Most likely not. Get the UK guy above ya to ship you the part.

Are you really swapping consoles just for another cupholder? Why not use the rear cupholders (they're easily reachable from up front)
Are you really swapping consoles just for another cupholder? Why not use the rear cupholders (they're easily reachable from up front)
could be because if you don't have the new console design, you don't have rear cupholders... unless you buy the part from a last-gen Forester and install that...

so why not buy them? they're what.... $30...
vs a $200+++ conversion? :confused:

wait wait wait, only one cupholder in an 02 WRX? Isn't there one on the dash and one in the console or was the OP talking about there not being two in the console?
veightkiller 10-29-2005 12:17 PM

it can be done if you got all the parts to do the transplant...no biggie but you need $$$$$.
projectrally 12-01-2005 12:23 AM

I know I'm a month late and a dollar short, but I just posted a thread about this. I think the answer is definitely yes. You can definitely do it. You'll need to get the center console and mid-console from an 05 RS.

If you sit 6 feet from the steering wheel, maybe
KamiKaziBoarder 12-01-2005 02:34 PM

Aww....No one needs to drink anything while driving. If you need a drink...Strap a Camalback to the back of the seat or something! That'll fix the problem. AND you can use the camalback for hiking, biking, wintersports, running. It has a lot more usages than just a cupholder!
WikdRX 12-01-2005 08:37 PM

not gonna work, ive seen it tried. Doesnt come close
MrPhiscal 03-27-2006 02:47 PM

Thank for all the answers I was in IRAQ. Silly War but i should have pic by aug 2006
cleatis 03-27-2006 10:43 PM

It can be done with the needed parts. I have done it. It will be a little differnt for a wrx since the climate controls are differnt.

see my post

That's what I was thinking. There are two cupholders... only one is down by the shifter.
johnnywu 03-27-2006 11:40 PM

OMG tell your wife/gf/vag to wait 10mins till you get home or wherever you are going to get a drink. The 02-04 WRX has 2 cup holders. See that little cup icon etched above the cd player? Yeah push that. Or better yet just tell your passengers to hold there own drinks, it's not like they are doing anything but sitting.
LastResort 03-28-2006 03:55 PM

You have obviously never been in the car with my mother and a cup of coffee. Her poor Subaru has more coffee stains in the footwell.....
